During a break in his run, Zhang Haike quickly bent down, grabbed a handful of small red bumps that had fallen from the giant jellyfish, and stuffed them into his pocket.

He planned to take it out and give it to the Zhang family's experts in this field to study how this thing actually works.

After the three of them fled in a sorry state for some distance, it seemed that the commotion behind them had not caught up. Zhang Wuxun, puzzled, extended his senses to see where the monsters had chased them, but unexpectedly, this exploration led him to "see" a rather surprising scene.

Instead of chasing them directly, the large red and white jellyfish that rushed towards them with a whooshing sound gathered around the crater and feasted on the dead jellyfish inside.

Is this a case of relatives and friends offering sacrifices to heaven and then immediately starting the feast?

In the residual heat of the explosion, those eternally cold monsters appeared to Zhang Wuxun like holes burned by cigarette butts on an electric blanket, their outlines crystal clear.

Cannibalism is not a rare or shocking thing in the monster world, especially since this thing probably doesn't have a brain or central nervous system, and there isn't even a heart in the exploded mass of red, translucent flesh.

Although they would release toxic mists to confuse their prey, and stuff small red bumps secreted from their tentacles into the prey's mouth, this was somewhat similar to dinosaurs swallowing pebbles to aid digestion.

But in reality, these behaviors are just basic cognitions given by instinct, rather than advanced thinking or consciousness.

Zhang Wuxun withdrew his senses and continued to lead the way at the same speed.

From Zhang Haike and Dan's perspective, they were following Zhang Wuxun as he wandered aimlessly through the stone forest, sometimes darting through and sometimes circling around.

They didn't know where their destination was, and although they had doubts, they didn't say anything and just followed silently.

After running at high speed for an hour, Zhang Wuxun finally slowed down and turned around to signal Zhang Haike and the others to rest here for a while.

The stone forest in this area is already quite sparse, and the ground is covered with gravel and a kind of blackish-gray moss that looks like it has been spoiled.

“The sinkhole is just ahead,” Zhang Wuxun said, pointing in a direction.

……

The fat man stared at the seven headless, mummified corpses with a serious expression. Since the conspiracy theory was invalid, didn't that mean they had fallen into another conspiracy besides the Zhang family's plan?

What does that conspirator want to do by bringing so many "headless evil spirits" here? This isn't something you can just pick up a suitcase and leave.

A completely dehydrated mummy, including bones and skin, would weigh at least thirty pounds; if it's headless, let's say it weighs twenty-five pounds.

To carry seven 25-pound corpses all at once, and transport them over 50 kilometers through a rocky canyon, those mules must be professionally trained.

Moreover, a corpse is not a regular object. It's not like a weight that you can just carry in a sturdy bag. Unlike a living person, a corpse cannot subconsciously contract its muscles or adjust its posture to reduce the burden on the mover. It is difficult to find a suitable point of leverage when moving a dead person.

Therefore, this person likely has accomplices.

Another question is, since Zhang Haike and his group only took the heads, it means they didn't care about the bodies and probably just buried them casually. So who dug them up again and mummified them?

The fat man rubbed his chin, wondering which genius had done this thankless task, and what his purpose was. Could it be that these fake Wu Xies had something special about them?
The fat man circled the small stone cave, and fearing that someone might attack him from behind while he was deep in thought, he peeked out of the narrow cave entrance again.

Using the weak beam of his miniature flashlight, he saw several dark figures climbing down the cliff face of the sinkhole.

One of the figures seemed to sense that someone was watching, and a pale face turned around without warning.

"Damn!" The fat man was startled and immediately covered the light from his collar with his hand, shrinking back into the hole.

The distance was too great for him to see clearly whether the shadow was human or ghost; he only saw a face glowing with a ghostly white light.

"What the hell? Could it be that the original owner of this cave has returned from foraging for food?"

Then, recalling the number of those dark figures, there were four in total. The fat man's eyes lit up immediately—it was Mu Yu and his group!
The sinkhole is as big as two football fields put together. The bottom of the sinkhole is full of collapsed stone pillars and the ruins of buildings. Most of the remains of the ancient buildings are buried in the rubble. Only from the sloping tops of the pillars that are still exposed on the ground can you barely tell that they were originally carved with feathered serpents in all sorts of strange poses.

The ruins reveal that these buildings were once quite large. The feathered serpents, with their devout yet somewhat ferocious expressions, reveal their rugged heads or upper bodies, resembling the dense teeth in the open mouths of giant beasts, appearing especially terrifying and eerie at night.

"It seems we've arrived in the territory of the Gouqiangqiong tribe from a thousand years ago."

Despite the throbbing pain in his abdomen, Wu Xie carefully observed the iconic buildings.

Wu Xie woke up from his deep sleep when Zhang Wuxun and the others were resting near the edge of the stone forest.

The group chatted and summarized the information, discovering that those who were asleep had been infected before those who were awake. Previously, Wu Xie and the other two were sleeping in a tent. Wu Xie was woken by his watch alarm. Upon opening his eyes, he saw a white figure standing in the tent in the dim light of his watch. The white figure was swaying back and forth, seemingly busy with something.

Wu Xie didn't react at first, thinking it was either Zhang Haike or Dan wearing protective suits. He sat up and casually asked a question, when the white figure suddenly turned around and pounced on him like a madman.

Wu Xie felt a large lump of soft rubber crashing into his face, and then he lost consciousness. His body began to go out of control. Without realizing it, he reached up to his face and took off his gas mask, then grabbed the small red bumps on his tentacles and kept stuffing them into his mouth.

His throat seemed to have suddenly become a bottomless pit, impossible to fill no matter how much he tried to stuff it.

Zhang Haike and Dan, who were initially blinded by the poisonous fog, stood up and tried to leave the tent, but Wu Xie's commotion woke them up.

The moment they realized they couldn't see, they gripped their weapons and became alert. However, due to their hearing loss, and with Wu Xie's out-of-control rampage interfering with their actions, the two of them and the white figure enveloping Wu Xie fought a chaotic battle, each on their own. Realizing they couldn't defeat their opponent, they immediately chose to avoid danger and retreat from the area.

At that moment, Zhang Wuxun was confronting a large red and white jellyfish that was quietly shrouding the tent. Zhang Wuxun's vision quickly blurred and his hearing disappeared. However, this had happened to him before, and he could "see" from an alternative perspective.

The fat man had just finished urinating and turned around when he was struck by a spell. As if his soul had been bewitched, he ran headlong into the darkness, while the large red and white jellyfish, attracted by the sound, chased after him.

Zhang Wuxun had already "seen" Zhang Haike and Dan's temperature group running out of the camp separately, so he had no choice but to chase after Fatty. Little did he know that Wu Xie was still trapped in the tent by Bai Ying and they were reluctant to part.

Zhang Wuxun first caught up with the fat man and knocked him unconscious. Following the direction of the distribution of the small snakes in his senses, he rushed over and found the sinkhole that Dan had mentioned. After settling the fat man in, he left behind information molecules that only his own race could detect, and then immediately went to find Zhang Haike and Dan.

The two ran off separately, but ended up meeting again after a few twists and turns. After a brief exchange, they recognized each other by grabbing each other's hair and choking each other.

Although Zhang Haike's blood wasn't that effective, it could still hold out for a while. He smeared blood on himself and Dan, and with eyes that seemed to have a thousand degrees of astigmatism plus a thousand degrees of myopia, he looked around. Well, countless white images surrounded them like a wall of clouds.

After that, the two of them seemed to be trapped in an endless loop, constantly repeating the cycle of going blind and deaf, running away when they couldn't win, their vision partially recovering, being surrounded, going blind and deaf again... Their gas masks had long since fallen off somewhere, until a conspicuous eagle whistle came from the white fog.

Zhang Wu found his way over, stood atop the highest black stone mountain nearby, blew his eagle whistle, and used his blood to mark out a small temporary safe zone.

As a group of large red and white jellyfish and humanoid digestive sacs they spat out from their mouthparts relentlessly chased Zhang Haike and his companion, Zhang Wuxun observed and discovered that these seemingly invulnerable strange creatures had a weakness that wasn't actually a weakness.

They can only move freely within the height covered by the mist they exhale; beyond this range, they can only circle around in vain and cannot jump up to attack people.

Zhang Haike and Dan listened to the intermittent eagle whistles and slowly groped their way over.

While being chased by the monster, Zhang Haike keenly sensed something approaching. Thinking it was another trap, he grabbed his short knife and was about to stab when someone deftly grabbed his wrist and punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground.

Before Zhang Haike could even get up, his head was still spinning, and Zhang Wuxun pressed his knee down, smearing his face with blood without any mercy.

Dan waited quietly to the side. When he recognized the voice as the eagle whistle of his young clan leader, his heart, which had been hanging in suspense, immediately calmed down.

Realizing that the people who came down were Zhang Wuxun and a few others, the fat man finally felt a huge weight lifted from his heart.

After some twists and turns, the Golden Globe Valley expedition team finally reunited.

The fat man glanced at Zhang Haike and his group of elites and saw that they were covered in dust and dirt, looking disheveled with messy hair and their protective suits were covered in sticky mucus and dirt, as if they had just been pulled out of the mud. It was clear that they had suffered a lot.

He first helped Wu Xie sit down, and then, like a leader comforting someone who had been working overtime for a week, he shook hands with Zhang Wuxun and the others one by one, saying, "You've suffered, you've suffered a lot, haven't you? Oh, look at our brother-in-law, what happened? Why is your mouth bleeding?"

Zhang Haike was seething with anger and half-closed his eyes, warning him, "Don't make me want to beat you up!"

"Hey you, Fatty's taking care of you, don't be ungrateful." Fatty pretended to be angry, but secretly mouthed to Zhang Wuxun and Dan who had hit him.

Zhang Wuxun remained silent and quietly turned his eyes to the side.

Seeing this, Dan stepped forward and puffed out his chest.

"Tenzin Yunren!" Zhang Haike's face darkened, his eyes piercing like knives.

Dan was stunned for a moment, scratching his head in confusion. He couldn't understand why Zhang Haike was so angry. When they were training in the clan, the young clan leader had often beaten him, but he never got angry.

Wu Xie looked completely bewildered.

The fat man roughly guessed the whole story from the different reactions of the others, cleared his throat, and changed the subject.

"Naive, I found your body here." (End of Chapter)
