Chapter 88 A Foggy Mist
If it weren't for the fact that Lao Yang's behavior was unpredictable, Wu Xiaoxie would have rolled his eyes at him. He must have been incredibly bored to come to this godforsaken place to suffer, and he even caused Mu Yu to disappear.

Sighing inwardly, Wu Xiaoxie wondered how Muyu was doing now.

Seeing that he didn't speak and his eyes looked for a moment of desolation, Lao Yang didn't say anything more, turned around, turned on his flashlight, and went into the dark cave.

Wu Xiaoxie peered inside and found it to be very damp. The bark of the tree roots was completely different from the outside, very soft, and when he touched it, he would get grayish-black mold powder on his fingers. Upon closer inspection, he realized that it was a kind of short mushroom that he didn't know the name of, growing on the bark inside. Some brownish-white moths fluttered out from the gaps in the bark and flew towards his face. Wu Xiaoxie was afraid that the insects here were poisonous, so he quickly stepped back and waved his flashlight to scatter them.

At first, you could still hear Lao Yang crawling down, but then the sound stopped.

Wu Xiaoxie's watch broke, so he could only silently count the seconds in his mind to calculate the time.

After counting for nearly half an hour, Lao Yang still showed no sign of emerging, and no one knew how deep the tree hole was.

Waiting outside was pointless and a waste of time, so Wu Xiaoxie gritted his teeth, closed his eyes, turned on the light, and crouched down to crawl inside.

I was walking along just fine at first, when suddenly my foot stepped on something slippery, I couldn't tell if it was moss or something else. As soon as I stepped on it, I stumbled.

Wu Xiaoxie hurriedly straightened up to maintain his balance, but forgot that the cave he was in was too low. At his height, he couldn't move his arms and legs freely inside. Before he could even straighten up, his head hit the top of the tree hole, and he immediately felt dizzy and his head was buzzing. He didn't care about his feet anymore and slid down the tree hole until he reached a flat area, where he stopped when he touched something.

Fortunately, he instinctively gripped the flashlight when he hit his head; otherwise, in such an unknown environment, being completely in the dark would have been disastrous.

Wu Xiaoxie shone the lamp forward and was immediately stunned.

Five intersections suddenly appeared in front of me. Which one should I go through?

Wu Xiaoxie got up and half-knelt down to examine the smaller openings. He noticed a mark carved on one of them. The mark was relatively new, and he guessed that it was carved by Lao Yang.

There was a similar mark to the side, but it was a bit blurry because of the passage of time. Without thinking much, he climbed into the marked fork in the road. After climbing only a few meters, he suddenly felt his hand go empty. He was stunned for a moment, then realized that he had reached the end. He quickly shone his flashlight down, looking for Lao Yang.

Below is a hollow space filled with tangled tree roots, though there are far fewer roots here than outside, because they encase a huge coffin at its very center.

The coffin was made of stone, with patterns resembling birds and clouds carved on it. Whether there were any words or not was obscured by the tree roots, and Wu Xiaoxie couldn't understand what they were trying to express.

Beneath the coffin was a coffin bed, and the coffin itself was encased in tree roots.

This should be the altar they're looking for.

But since what we're looking for is here, where did that bastard Lao Yang go?

Wu Xiaoxie looked around and suddenly noticed that the coffin lid seemed to have been opened. He immediately exclaimed, "Oh dear, Lao Yang is so impatient, could he have crawled into the coffin? What should we do?"
Looking around again, he thought to himself that unless Lao Yang suddenly mutated into an ant, he would definitely not be able to hide in this hole.

So there's a high chance that Lao Yang is really inside.

Damn it, Wu Xiaoxie immediately wanted to curse. Why was he in such a hurry? Couldn't he have waited for him to come down together? There might be a zombie in such an old coffin. Even if Lao Yang had three heads and six arms, he wouldn't be enough for a zombie to swallow whole.

While pondering this, he shone his light into the gap in the open coffin.

Inside, it was a hazy gray, with wisps of white mist swirling in the air. When light shone in, it was as if it were swallowed up by a monster in the darkness, and nothing could be seen.

Wu Xiaoxie broke off a thin tree root, poked it into the crack, stirred it around, and then confirmed that there was no one inside, let alone any zongzi (rice dumplings).
