Chapter 877 Suddenly
Although Tang Jing denied it, Tang Wan had no intention of changing the subject. Instead, she lowered her voice and teased with a smile, "Sister, you probably forgot who helped you find out about that person."

Tang Jing's face flushed red instantly. She subconsciously tried to pull her hand away, but Tang Wan held it firmly.

"I didn't..." Tang Jing continued to explain in a low voice.

Tang Wan had no intention of stopping the conversation; since it had already started, she might as well get to the point.

Tang Wan lowered her voice and chuckled, "That's good. So, what does Sister plan to do?"

Tang Jing's hand trembled, she lowered her head, bit her lip, and remained silent.

The covered walkway was quiet for a moment, with only the rustling of the wind through the bamboo leaves.

Tang Wan simply held Tang Jing's hand and said softly, "Young Master Wang is currently holding a position in the capital, and his future looks bright. Now that we've returned to the capital, perhaps my sister's wish can be fulfilled."

Tang Jing raised her head, her eyes slightly red, and forced a smile. She said softly, "But... he is the eldest son of the Taiyuan Wang family. Although something happened back then, and he now serves His Highness the War Prince, he is still of Wang blood. Our Tang family..."

Tang Jing didn't finish speaking, but Tang Wan understood what she meant.

Things like social status and birth, which she hadn't cared much about before, suddenly became heavy burdens when she reached marriageable age.

Tang Wan didn't speak, but simply held her sister's hand tightly.

She understood Tang Jing's concerns and the weight of this burden on her heart.

She remembered Wang Fu, the young man she had saved on the way to the northern desert. He was being chased and she had risked her life to save him, and the same people who had been chasing him had come back to kill him several times afterward.

Later, he stayed under the command of the War King, and the pursuers finally stopped. Later still, the War King arranged for him to return to the capital to participate in the imperial examination, where he passed with flying colors.

She didn't know the current state of Wang Fu's relationship with the Wang family of Taiyuan—whether it was a complete break or if there was still a chance for reconciliation.
Regardless of their relationship, his circumstances were indeed complicated. She suddenly felt a little annoyed; she shouldn't have talked about this with her sister without knowing anything about it.

"Wan'er?" Tang Jing called softly when she saw that Wan'er was lost in thought.

Tang Wan snapped out of her reverie, suppressed her thoughts, and looked at Tang Jing earnestly: "Sister, I will find an opportunity to ask about Young Master Wang for you."

Tang Jing was taken aback, then hurriedly shook her head: "No, no need, I don't want you to plead for me."

Tang Jing was somewhat at a loss. That figure often appeared in her mind, but she also knew that it was impossible for her and him back then, and even now, the possibility was indeed very small. So she never mentioned it to her parents.

"I'm not going to persuade him," Tang Wan interrupted her, her tone gentle. "I just want to find out about his current situation, his relationship with his family, and his future plans. Only by knowing him can we say whether we are destined to be together. Don't worry, sister, I know what I'm doing."

Tang Jing bit her lip, her face still flushed, but she didn't refuse after all. She said in a low voice, "Then don't force yourself. If it's inconvenient, then forget it."

Tang Wan agreed, but she had already made up her mind. It would be convenient to ring the bell and ask the War King, but she didn't plan to ask him directly. She didn't want to bother the War King, so she would ask him when he came to her.

The two walked for a while longer, and then they came to a fork in the road.

Tang Jing's courtyard is to the east, while Tang Wan's is to the west.

As they parted, Tang Jing suddenly grabbed Tang Wan's hand, squeezed it tightly, and hesitated, as if she wanted to say something but couldn't.

Tang Wan knew she had some concerns, so she gently patted her hand and said steadily, "Don't worry, I know what I'm doing."

As night fell, Tang Wan bathed and changed her clothes, leaving only Er Ya to keep watch.

Just as I was thinking about my conversation with my sister, the bell in the space suddenly rang.

Tang Wan turned around and entered the space with Er Ya.

The next moment, Tang Wan answered the bell, and the War King's familiar voice rang out: "Wan'er."

"Your Highness," Tang Wan replied, her voice unconsciously softening, "Is something the matter?" There was a moment of silence on the other end of the line, then a smile appeared on her face as she asked, "Can't I come to you if there's nothing wrong?"

Tang Wan was taken aback for a moment, then quickly replied, "How could that be!"

It was just a subconscious question.

The War King was just teasing Tang Wan and didn't intend to stay there any longer, so he asked, "I received the concealment talisman. Did you receive the silver that Zhan Yi sent?"

Tang Wan smiled and said, "You still don't trust Zhan Yi to send it?"

The War King blushed slightly at the question, but Tang Wan couldn't see it and could only feign nonchalance, saying, "No, it's not that." It wasn't that he didn't trust her; he just wanted to chat freely with the girl he loved, about anything and everything.

Tang Wan didn't dwell on the topic, but instead asked, "You had quite a few concealment talismans last time, did you use them all up so quickly?"

The War King said, "There's been some new progress on Feng Yongnian's side. Several groups of people are keeping an eye on several locations, so they're expending a lot of resources."

Upon hearing this, Tang Wan said, "I made two hundred sheets this time. If it's not enough, just let me know and I'll make some more."

“This should be enough,” the War King said.

Hearing him say that, Tang Wan pressed on, "Are you planning to close the net?"

"Yes, confirming a few more details should be enough," the War King said frankly.

Tang Wan didn't dwell on the issue too much. She was willing to help the War King if he needed it, and she didn't intend to press him for an answer.

Tang Wan didn't intend to ask further, but the War King spoke up: "When we close the net, we might need Wan'er's help."

The War King was still debating whether or not to ask Tang Wan for help, but after thinking about it, he felt more at ease with her around. After all, the only person he knew who understood this kind of thing and was most capable was Tang Wan.

Needless to say, this matter was extremely important, and he dared not place his hopes on people he was not so familiar with.

Tang Wan replied without hesitation, "Just let me know in advance if needed."

She wouldn't hesitate to do something like that if needed.

When the War King heard Tang Wan's unhesitating answer, he was delighted, but he only hummed in response.

After a brief pause, the War King suddenly asked, "How did things go with the Duchess of Anguo's visit to the manor?"

The topic changed abruptly, but Tang Wan was not surprised.

She had expected him to ask, but the topic changed so suddenly that she almost didn't catch him off guard.

Then, Tang Wan replied calmly, "I've been here. My mother asked me what I thought, and I agreed."

There was another brief silence on the other end of the bell's call.

Finally, he simply said, "Okay."

After pausing, the War King asked in a calm tone, "What did your family say?"

“Mother said that we’ll discuss it when Father returns,” Tang Wan said truthfully. “However, Father was taken out for drinks by his colleagues today and hasn’t returned home yet. We should have a decision by tomorrow.”

The War King hummed in agreement and did not ask any further questions.

Tang Wan waited for a moment, and seeing that he had nothing else to say, she said, "Your Highness, I have something I want to ask you."
