Chapter 102 Starving to Death
Jiang Hui was shocked to see the blood-soaked interior when the control room was forcibly dismantled.

She had imagined many possibilities, but none of them were this one. Unlike the person next to her whose legs went weak and who instinctively let out a howl, her first reaction was one of stunned disbelief, feeling as if it were all unreal.

Rewind to a little over an hour earlier, when Jiang Hui smelled an acidic odor at the camp but couldn't find it anywhere.

She dared not stay in the tent for fear of being suffocated by the fumes, nor dared to stand directly in the desolate wilderness, where it was pitch black and a wild beast might suddenly appear behind her and snatch her away without a sound.

They were in a situation where they couldn't advance or retreat.

The acidic odor in the air grew increasingly intense. Even in such a spacious environment, one could still feel the concentration of the odor constantly increasing and spreading.

Jiang Hui instinctively felt uneasy, as if she sensed something unsettling happening nearby, and a thin layer of cold sweat covered her back.

When will the school come to rescue her? If Jiang Hui had regretted not having the nerve to follow them earlier, she now deeply regretted it—because this was completely different from what they had agreed upon.

Even if the school couldn't find her, the instructor couldn't possibly forget to check on her situation. We're actually quite close to the final stop; we should be there by now.

She forced herself to endure the unpleasant smell and returned to the relatively bright temporary tent, rummaging through the things in her bag.

This pack is rather primitive, and it still contains things that are somewhat out of step with today's technological age. For example, bedding, heavy metal kettles that are only for decoration, and raincoats take up half of the pack's space. However, these things are actually not needed on their journey and are more like historical artifacts.

The remaining half of the space contained the things they could actually use, such as the temporary tent that had already been dismantled, compressed food packs, a first-aid kit, a small bag containing miscellaneous tools, and a bundle of long rope. Jiang Hui tugged at it; it was quite elastic and sturdy, but she couldn't find what she was looking for.

Jiang Hui genuinely felt that the package arrangement was very unreasonable. Didn't the school consider that they might get lost? Why weren't there any searchlights or signal flares?

The school seems very confident in its ability to monitor every corner. But judging from her current situation, it doesn't seem like the school can monitor even the smallest details... After all, it's been so long since it got dark, and she, a grown woman, has been left in the wilderness for so long. If she were to be carried off by wild animals and die under unknown circumstances, then Beska Intermediate Academy probably wouldn't be able to continue operating.

Jiang Hui felt that the current situation was very unusual, but she dared not make any rash moves and was at a loss for what to do.

Fortunately, the day didn't seem to keep her waiting long—

The sour smell that lingered in the air hadn't dissipated, but the restless atmosphere had lessened considerably. The chilling sense of crisis that Jiang Hui had instinctively felt had also subsided considerably, quite suddenly, leaving one somewhat bewildered.

What on earth happened so suddenly and without any context?
Rustling——

The sound wasn't loud; at first, it was rather small and fragmented, like something crawling and moving on the ground.

Then Jiang Hui, who had been waiting idly, immediately became highly alert. This was because it was the first time that an unusual sound had been heard, coming from the inexplicably drifting acidic odor and some natural sounds emanating from the wilderness.

Only conscious, active beings can produce such strange noises.

Something was approaching her.

This is the primary signal that Jiang Hui deduced.

She instinctively held her breath, focused her attention, and carefully released a few strands of spiritual energy to systematically explore her surroundings, while still holding the sharp end of her hiking stick in her hand.

No one noticed that a faint, shimmering light suddenly appeared in Jiang Hui's eyes against the dark night sky, flashing by but standing out starkly against the darkness. It was getting closer and closer—heading in her direction.

Jiang Hui gripped the serrated edge of her trekking pole tightly, raising it slightly, ready to strike the intruder, when she heard a voice: "...Help..."

"...Save...us..."

Jiang Hui: ? She wasn't mistaken; this was a human voice, and the figure seemed to be human as well.

But she didn't relax immediately.

Because her nose wasn't damaged, she could clearly smell the strong acidic odor emanating from this dark, possibly human-like object, the same one she'd been smelling all night. Could it have come directly from the scene of the incident…?

The other person murmured twice more, "Help, my life."

Having confirmed that it was human, Jiang Hui observed it for a while, and finally couldn't resist ruffling its messy hair. But when she touched it, her hand felt wet and had a chillingly slippery texture, which startled her so much that she instinctively pulled her hand back.

Then he asked the other person to grab him tightly. However, the area where the skin touched was noticeably warm, with the temperature of a living person, and he could even clearly feel a slight pulse.

“You…” Jiang Hui tentatively shook her hand, which was being held, but found that the other person was tightening their grip. She said helplessly, “Classmate, why don’t you let go of my hand first? You have to tell me how you want me to help you, and if you hold me like this, I can’t do anything.”

Upon hearing this, the other person seemed to soften their stance, and she quickly tried to free her hand. Unexpectedly, her ankle was grabbed by the other person's other hand.

Jiang Hui: ...

Now she was certain that it wasn't some kind of deceptive humanoid monster or scam.

What kind of monster is so stupid as to deliberately deceive people, and what kind of scam starts like this?

With one hand and one leg "locked" in place, Jiang Hui simply stepped back a little, then half-squatted down and directly pulled apart the other person's tangled hair.

A completely unfamiliar face, but clearly human, and most importantly, the person was wearing their school's training uniform.

As the light began to shine, Duofang weakly opened his eyes and stared intently at Jiang Hui, making her feel slightly awkward as he asked, "Excuse me, are you also a new student in this training camp? Is something wrong...? Is there anything I can help you with?"

Of course, there are some things she really can't help with, since she herself is helpless right now.

"Save... teach..." The latter half of the other person's words seemed a bit unclear, so Jiang Hui had to break them down word by word to listen, but it was still a bit blurry and unclear. Moreover, the other person's breath was getting weaker and weaker and he looked like he was about to faint.

Helpless, Jiang Hui could only frown and ask again, "What's wrong with you?" She deliberately raised her voice, afraid that the other person wouldn't be able to answer clearly.

"Eat... quickly..." Never mind, let's talk about it when I have the strength, I'm starving.
