Chapter 117 The Curtain Falls (Part 1)

The next day, Lu Jin came to examine Jiang Hui and was furious. He not only scolded her severely, but also, after learning what had happened, he couldn't help but curse the school and its higher-ups on the spot.

The insults were so vile that Jiang Hui began to suspect that the school might have been withholding the therapist Lu's wages, otherwise the other party wouldn't have been so resentful and dissatisfied.

In fact, her guess was correct. Lu Jin had only been transferred to Beska Intermediate Academy for a short time, and he had already expressed similar dissatisfaction twice. The first time was before Jiang Hui's arrival; he had protested to the school, and while the school outwardly promised to be more careful, things ultimately remained the same. The second time was this incident.

In Lu Jin's view, both incidents stemmed from the school's adoption of the military's hardline approach. The school could have handled them well, but its arrogant attitude led it to overlook details, resulting in various unfortunate consequences—all of which could have been prevented.

Lu Jin understood that this was the typical style of schools with military backgrounds. Not only Beska Intermediate Academy, but many schools he had seen in the capital star system also had this kind of style: stubborn and opinionated, often causing their vulnerable students to suffer undeservedly because of their high-handed attitude.

But as a therapist, his professional ethics made him unable to condone these schools' crude methods of raising children. These kids were only studying military-related majors, not actual soldiers; how could they be treated the same as everyone else? Look at the state they've been in! Lu Jin disapproved, but he also knew this was the prevailing trend, and there was nothing he could do about it.

After examining Jiang Hui and confirming her identity, he prescribed her three days' worth of medication, then herded her back to her dormitory like a pig, ordering her to rest for at least 48 hours and not to use her mental energy again.

Lu Jin, who was still in the tent, was about to pack up before going to examine the second student when his personal terminal suddenly received a message. He glanced at it and his tightly furrowed brows relaxed slightly as he seemed lost in thought.

She's awake. Finally, some good news!

Otherwise, if this warrant officer from the Mei family were to die here, even if the school were to overcome this crisis and continue operating, it would likely inevitably decline for a while.

But isn't Julimes supposed to be at the DB2 defense line right now? The fact that he managed to find time to come over at such a critical moment shows how much he cares for his younger brother.

Although his relationship with this guy was rather casual, they were still classmates. Since the other party had come forward to ask for his help, he naturally had to help, especially since that young Mace was indeed quite admirable.

Lu Jin summoned the on-duty therapist from the medical office and asked him to examine the students. She then changed into her school doctor's uniform and hurriedly left the school for the military hospital.

Thus, the zipper that had lasted all day was finally put to rest, and all the injured received proper care and treatment.

Because all the teachers were assigned to conduct investigations, the entire school suspended classes for a day. Jiang Hui, following the doctor's orders, rested in her dormitory, subsisting on instant food for breakfast and dinner. She knew it was quite lively outside; with the whole school closed, freshmen and returning students, having enjoyed a rare day of rest, were relaxing and freely wandering around campus, making the most of their precious free time. After today, everyone, freshmen and returning students alike, would have to return to the intense training.

Perhaps the special supplement prescribed by therapist Lu Jin was quite effective. Despite being mentally and physically exhausted multiple times within 24 hours, she wasn't as starving as she had expected when she entered the mental space again today; she was only slightly hungry. This puzzled her… Could it be that the ordinary supplements she used before weren't strong enough, requiring a special effect?

That's really quite picky. Having already determined that the hunger state generated within her mental space was related to both mental and physical strength, Jiang Hui silently added a new fixed expense to her account.

So, having twice as much time as others sounds wonderful, but this advantage isn't without its price. With double the time, you have to worry twice as much, and even your food and energy expenditure are doubled. But... you can only rest once. Too much rest will cause your body and mind to automatically adjust, making it impossible to sleep. It's quite selective indeed.

Jiang Hui ate a meal listlessly in the space, then went back to her study to study. She felt that the truth of her life was far too complicated, and she desperately needed an interesting book to calm her nerves.

On the second day, or rather the third day after the training camp ended, Jiang Hui returned to her class for training again—because of the doctor's orders, she had rested for an extra day compared to others.

Perhaps because of the events of the past few days, everyone was still struggling to process what had happened. Jiang Hui's absence due to injury was considered normal, so her absence went unnoticed. When Jiang Hui returned to training, some classmates kindly asked her how her recovery was going, completely unaware that she was one of the people involved in this whole ordeal.

According to the plan, shooting training should have been conducted this week. However, considering the recent busy schedule and the students' restlessness, it was postponed to the last week. This week, physical training and conditioning will continue, aiming to ensure they are in top condition for the final orienteering competition.

After that day's events, Instructor Stark resumed his previous attitude towards her and didn't mention the incident again.

Jiang Hui wondered if it was just her imagination, but the training the other party was giving her seemed to be getting increasingly harsh, showing no mercy and practically pushing her to the brink of death.

Jiang Hui knew that what had happened earlier had probably triggered her reaction. She actually felt a little ashamed for falling behind halfway through the process. Although she could comfort herself by saying that she was not cut out for it and hadn't been interested in the individual combat training program at first, so this was normal, and so on... But when you try your best to keep up with the team and the instructor says to you, "You're holding us back," it feels really bad. At that moment, Jiang Hui felt embarrassed and her heart ached.

She didn't mean any resentment, nor was she ashamed or annoyed by such a statement of fact. After all, if she really cared, she wouldn't have risked going back to save the other person just because Hillman persuaded her—she actually felt that the team leader, Instructor Mays, was really good to her.

However, it must be admitted that Instructor Mays' words did have some impact on Jiang Hui. She realized for the first time how weak she was in the eyes of others. She didn't want to be like this.
