Chapter 365 Commander Zhou (Part 1)
Let's get started. Assembling mechs shouldn't be too different from assembling models... well, okay, the difference is huge.

Jiang Hui looked at the parts scattered all over the ground. Even though she was mentally prepared, she couldn't help but feel a sense of dejection.

Sigh, this is the seventh time already.

After much hardship, painstaking effort, and various adjustments, she thought she had finally succeeded, but the illusion she had barely managed to create didn't even last a moment.

So, was it because her method was wrong? Jiang Hui slapped her head in frustration and flipped through the book she had previously consulted.

Of course, this book wasn't a particularly advanced reference textbook; many of the details were rather rudimentary, and the main page focused more on the outline and general steps. However, it was the most detailed tool she could find on the market, and she had previously used books like these to assemble her mecha models.

Well, she knows she's really quite arrogant, assembling a few models and daring to try building a mecha... People would laugh at her if they told anyone.

But she was not resigned to it. There is a saying that "once you understand one path, you can understand a hundred," which is somewhat exaggerated but not entirely without basis. Although she did not consider herself the kind of genius who could understand a hundred paths, she was still somewhat capable of applying what she had learned to other situations.

This time, Jiang Hui chose to work with a finger joint of a humanoid mecha. She thought its shape and structure were similar to a human's, making it easier to understand, and its size was also suitable, so she decided to try retrieving it.

To do this, she disassembled six or seven different sizes of humanoid mechs, studying each one from its internal structure, external lines, functional connections, and construction materials before attempting to assemble them.

Logically, the "templates" Jiang Hui selected were all close to a 1:1 control structure. However, the final assembly used in the experiment was a complete finger joint, which was disassembled piece by piece before assembly.

As it turned out, she tried for almost a day and a half without success, and couldn't even get the basic shape right.

Every time he managed to build a basic model, it would immediately crumble into a pile of loose material the moment he loosened his grip, the kind that even strong crystalline adhesive couldn't hold together. This made Jiang Hui seriously doubt his abilities... Could the model really be that different from the real thing? Well, it definitely was.

But at least don't scatter it so completely. Jiang Hui squatted on the ground, picked up a piece of armor plate. The movable joint that had been so firmly embedded in it had completely fallen off and was lying half a meter away.

Hundreds of parts fell apart in an instant, not a single one connected. It's true, how come they weren't so coordinated when they were joined together, but they're quite coordinated when they're falling apart?

Jiang Hui sighed, her fingers paused for a moment, then she clasped her hands together, intending to put the things away for the time being and wait until she returned to school to find more detailed assembly instructions. Otherwise, she was afraid that if she continued to pretend like this, she would get so angry that she would explode.

"Knock, knock, knock—" A muffled knocking sound came from outside the door. Jiang Hui thought it was just Zhou's staff delivering food again, and wondered why they were here so early when there was still some time before dinner... Just as she was about to reach for the remote to open the door, a familiar voice came from outside.

"Student Jiang."

Isn't this Zhou Xiuwen? What's he doing here? Jiang Hui didn't think too much about it and quickly jumped up to open the door.

As soon as Zhou Xiuwen entered, he saw Jiang Hui sitting on the ground with a basket of metal objects next to him. He was rummaging through the last pile of objects and then deftly throwing them back into the basket.

He finally figured out where the "clinking and banging" sound coming from the other room was coming from.

"You're... assembling a mecha?" Zhou Xiuwen had been exposed to this since childhood. Although he himself had only piloted mecha a handful of times and lacked both interest and talent in it, not to mention combat ability, he was indeed more knowledgeable than many of his peers in interstellar space. He could tell at a glance that these were mecha parts.

Jiang Hui nodded as if she didn't care much, and led Zhou Xiuwen to sit down at the table, ignoring the things on the ground.

Assaulting mechs? Was he mistaken? He clearly remembered that Jiang Hui, Clarence, and Hillman were all students from the combat individual soldier department. Do individual soldiers still need to do this kind of mission now? Zhou Xiuwen couldn't help but wonder.

The other party was probably quite puzzled at that moment. Why would a student majoring in combat be thinking about assembling mechs in private? Jiang Hui didn't even need to ask to know what Zhou Xiuwen was hesitating about.

"I'm just learning randomly, there's no real plan." Then Jiang Hui said with a hint of amusement, "I've mentioned before that I never actually intended to go into the Combat Individual Soldier Department. I applied to this school without paying attention to the follow-up, and I was automatically admitted to the Combat Individual Soldier Department as soon as I entered. By the time I realized I needed to change, the school had already registered me as a student and assigned me to a major and class. If I want to change my major, I'll have to wait until next year."

"Later, I came across mecha by chance and became quite interested in it, wondering if I could get involved. After all, there's still so much time before the end of my secondary school years, and nobody can say for sure that they can make it to the end in their major, so it wouldn't hurt to learn more."

Besides, even if she does join the military and become a soldier in the future, learning more about mecha would actually be beneficial for her.

Zhou Xiuwen's eyes widened slightly. It turned out that Jiang Hui, whom he considered incredibly capable and efficient, wasn't so sure about his own major. While this was understandable, it seemed a stark contrast to the Jiang Hui he had known for the past few days.

He didn't know what to say for a moment, and after a long while he said, "Well, that's good too, I..." The other person seemed to want to say something, but swallowed the words back and changed the subject, saying, "I seem to have some basic books for mecha pilots, which were given to me by an elder in the capital. They've been sitting there without being used. If you need them, I'll go get them for you right away."

Jiang Hui considerately refrained from asking what the other person meant by swallowing their words, pretending not to know. Upon hearing that Zhou Xiuwen had suitable foundational books, she immediately became interested and unceremoniously said, "I need them," as these were exactly the kinds of books she needed most.

To be honest, she was completely groping around blindly, ignoring all the basic rules. This feeling of crossing a river blindfolded was terrible; she didn't even know if she was on the river at all. Jiang Hui was also afraid that her reckless actions would cause some problems, so she couldn't help but become anxious.

She was unwilling to give up... Continuing like this was definitely not going to work. It seemed that she really needed to take some proper courses, otherwise she would never be able to step into the field in her entire life.
