The Most Powerful Brain in the Interstellar Space
Chapter 427 Tit for tat
Chapter 427 Tit for tat
Of course, such a vague division is not very friendly to students with weaker academic backgrounds.
Therefore, the academic atmosphere in Class 1 has always been quite ordinary. Students at the bottom of the class have always been relatively quiet. Although bullying is not allowed in such a school, being looked down upon is a very unpleasant thing in itself.
Some of them may feel resentful and want to break through to the top and compete with the true elites. Others are indifferent, feeling that they're just here to study and don't need to make things so complicated. Still others have suffered setbacks in various aspects of their lives, and the oppressive learning environment has led them to become frustrated and accept their lowly position.
Overall, the atmosphere in Class One was rather tense. As soon as Holly and the others arrived, everyone seemed to stop what they were doing and immediately paid attention. If you had to describe it, it was more like a kind of "stress response".
The trio was quite the show-off. Not only their own classmates, but also students from other classes were drawn to their commotion.
"Is that Holly from Class 1? So that's what she looks like."
"Are you kidding me?! It's been more than half a semester since the start of the semester, and you still don't recognize his face? Why don't you say you don't know the other, even more outstanding top student from the next class..."
"How could I not recognize her? I've seen that person so many times, in the library, and I even talked to her... She seems to have a much better temper than Holly. I heard from a friend in the next class that she's usually the best-tempered person in class."
"Hey, you're getting off-topic. Weren't we talking about Holly? Why are you bringing up Jiang Hui from the next class?"
"...Is that girl over there Mu Kun? I heard she's really good at mecha piloting, and she almost beat Holly. I heard she's the only one in Class One who's competing with Holly for first place."
"Aren't they together? Why are you comparing them?"
"Who said they were together? You must have confused their previous competition. They only formed teams for a short time for the competition. After that, they became old rivals when they returned to class, and the competition was fierce. Holly only secured the top spot in Class 1 just last month."
"The competitive atmosphere in this class is so strong, unlike our class..." The speaker was a student from Class 3. As they spoke, they slowly turned their gaze to their side—towards the two students in front of them. Well, the most promising siblings in their class, the Lava siblings, were the epitome of a laid-back attitude. The classmates were all quite harmonious, and there was absolutely no faction involved.
The problem is that their class really lacks a sense of competition and pressure. Under the intense, competitive atmosphere of the first two classes, they always had this illusion that they'd soon be kicked out of the top-performing classes…
But then everyone thought about it again. Wasn't their seemingly carefree and easygoing homeroom teacher, Lin Qi, just like that? Exactly the same. If the teacher wasn't in a hurry, why should they be? They should just study hard and steadily move forward step by step, and naturally, they would have their place.
Jiang Hui glanced in that direction a few times out of curiosity, but to her surprise, the other person accurately caught her gaze in the crowd. She felt that already sharp gaze suddenly darken, then quickly withdraw as if locking onto prey, leaving her quite puzzled.
"Was he... glaring at me just now?" Jiang Hui had been complaining about Hillman earlier, but today she asked the same question in a daze.
However, Clarence wouldn't criticize her, because he had noticed the gaze coming from over there, and he slowly turned back and said calmly, "Maybe."
The two had just looked away when, without noticing, a familiar figure rushed in right behind the slick trio. And his style was quite different from the others; he stood at the doorway, his eyes scanning the surroundings like searchlights, then quickly and accurately pinpointed his target, his eyes lighting up as he charged straight towards them.
"Whoa, we made it!" Hillman came running over to them, panting, and sat down on the other side of Jiang Hui. "Catch your breath... just have some water, why are you in such a hurry to run like this?" Jiang Hui was a little speechless, and pulled the water bottle that the other had pulled out and was about to fall back into his hands.
And friend, even if you're not a great combat soldier, you've still done a lot of physical training... What kind of running style can make you so out of breath?
Then she got the answer the next moment.
"You wouldn't believe it, luckily I ran fast—" Hillman drank half a pot of water with gusto, still somewhat "shaken" as he spoke.
“Didn’t you come from the cafeteria?” Clarence asked.
"Hmm? How did you know..." Hillman was a little puzzled, but his attention was quickly diverted to something else: "Sigh, let's not talk about that now, it's irrelevant."
"You know, I just came out of the cafeteria and ran into our class advisor, Captain Stark, and Captain Lynch from Class 3 walking together."
The thought of that scene is terrifying.
Hillman shuddered. Can you imagine these three people walking side by side on the school path, completely at ease? But that's exactly what happened.
When Hillman ran into them, he overheard Zou Yi and Stark exchanging barbs. Well, actually, Zou Yi did most of the talking, followed by Stark's brief but powerful sarcasm. And Captain Lynch wasn't one to be outdone either; whether intentionally or unintentionally, or just wanting to watch the show, he'd chime in every now and then.
The atmosphere among the three became incredibly tense; it was close to a confrontation, if not a direct confrontation.
Hillman, walking at the back, was incredibly embarrassed. Walking fast wasn't an option, nor was walking slow. Going up to greet them was awkward, ignoring them wasn't good either… In the end, he felt like a sneaky little mouse trailing far behind, utterly pathetic, and knowing he'd be called out would be even more embarrassing. So, he couldn't help but bite the bullet and go up to the teachers to say hello, then scurried away as fast as he could ever go.
He was afraid that if he ran too slow, he would run into them again, so after walking for a while he turned from walking to running. He was covered in sweat the whole way, as if he were being chased by a ghost.
If it weren't for this incident, Hillman wouldn't have known he could be this fast. He imagines that if he could maintain this speed for the final exam, he might even get an A in this section.
"Anyway, let's not talk about it. I'll just come to class earlier next time so I won't run into them, uh—" Hillman's voice suddenly dropped because, coincidentally, the three main characters he had just mentioned appeared at the door and entered the classroom.
The large classroom fell silent instantly.
