The Most Powerful Brain in the Interstellar Space
Chapter 462 Training Ground
Chapter 462 Training Ground
The absence of the word "simulation" in the training field naturally refers to the real, hands-on kind.
Given the Hillman family's wealth, they naturally have all kinds of equipment. However, since Hillman is relatively young, he can only access the high-safety-level mecha training grounds.
This mech training facility, customized to S-class competition standards, is typically used only by Hillman's grandfather and his brother.
Hillman's grandfather, Frank, aspired to be an Imperial sergeant from an early age. Aaron was born during a period when the Hillman family was rapidly expanding, and upon reaching adulthood, he took over the family business, sharing the burden with his father.
His children, however, each had their own distinct personalities. His second son and eldest daughter were of average talent and had little ambition for fame or fortune; they simply followed the established order.
The eldest son inherited his parents' talents and abilities; he is very ambitious and is currently diligently learning from his father how to handle family affairs. The younger daughter has a strong personality, much like her mother in her youth. After graduating, she didn't rely on family resources but instead went to the Central Star Region alone, living in anonymity. She actually made a name for herself and currently works at the Imperial Research Center.
Of these children, only the eldest son, David Hillman, possessed remarkable combat talent. However, it was more of a hobby for him. While in school, he would often participate in team competitions with his friends, but after graduating, he returned to the family's star system to fully support the family business and no longer appeared in public.
So the training ground at home was originally built for him, but he rarely returned to the mansion and stopped attending public competitions, so the training ground was left vacant. It was only used by their grandfather, Frank Hillman, when he came back for vacation.
Hillman's grandfather, Frank Hillman, was a highly promising young talent in the military before his retirement. His abilities were undeniable, and his combat prowess was among the best of his generation. Although he has left the military, he remains passionate about mecha combat.
His residence also has a military-standard training ground that is even higher than this one. The one on the residential side is a step below, but it is also fully equipped with all kinds of equipment.
So when the butler led Jiang Hui and the others into the training ground that had been closed for a while, everyone, including Hillman, the young master of the host family, showed a hint of amazement.
This venue is almost as big as the one they went to watch the open tournament last time, except it doesn't have the outer ring of large spectator seats. As for the size of the inner field, let alone two standard armored vehicles, even if there were a dozen or twenty large battle armored vehicles, they could probably conduct a group exercise without any hindrance.
Then there were many strangely shaped machines around. Jiang Hui couldn't recognize them all, but she could identify a small group, such as the speed analyzer, the large-scale ultra-lithographic model, and the bottom adjustment panel, all of which were tools used to simulate and assist mecha combat. She had seen many of them in the school's training grounds, and the others that she couldn't recognize probably served the same purpose.
Seeing the amazement on his young master's face, Butler Will chuckled. "This area of the East Courtyard is usually only used by the head of the family. Although he comes here relatively rarely, a professional team is still sent here regularly for maintenance. Young Master Aaron was afraid that you, being young and ignorant, might accidentally touch the machinery here, so he had it sealed off."
Hillman, still reeling from the shock of having such a place in his own home, a place he'd lived in for so many years without ever knowing, suddenly realized, "No wonder Grandfather often couldn't find me when he came to stay here every year, and when we tried to contact him, he'd say he was in the mansion." Could he really be in the training room all the time? "In his early years, the patriarch often sparred with Young Master David. Later, after Young Master David took over the family affairs, he frequently fought against Mr. Marco. However, in recent years, he's always said that Mr. Marco's methods are 'old-fashioned' and 'inflexible'... Now that the young master has officially enrolled in the intermediate academy, you'll likely be accompanying the patriarch from now on. He'll be very happy," Butler Will said with a hint of satisfaction.
The Mr. Marco he was referring to was Frank's chief steward, and currently the highest-ranking business executive outside of a few direct members of the Frank family. He had also previously served as Frank's adjutant, having been promoted by Frank himself.
When Frank retired from the military and returned to his family, he didn't hesitate to apply to join the Hillman family, where he remained for centuries. Although they were always in a superior-subordinate relationship, their mutual support over the years had made them like family.
It's just that back then, Frank promoted Marco even more.
It was mostly due to his loyalty and the tacit understanding between the two, rather than his talent. In terms of talent, Marco was quite ordinary; the only commendable quality he possessed during his time in the army was his execution ability, which was otherwise quite average.
After he retired from the military, losing the influence of the battlefield environment, his skill level plummeted, completely regressing to an amateur level. Given Frank's combat ability, fighting him would naturally only be described as "old-fashioned" and "inflexible," which is probably a polite way of putting it.
Of course, Frank held a high position of power, and even though many people were willing to fight him, he dared not casually seek out others to satisfy his fighting desires. So he could only discipline his own children.
He had always wanted Hillman to enroll in school as soon as possible so that he could personally teach this talented but lazy and unambitious grandson.
Of course, Hillman declined the offer, as he considered himself a complete novice at piloting mechs and dared not presume to teach a professional.
His mental strength level was high, only one tier lower than Holly's, but still reached A-level, second only to Mu Kun in Class 1. However, he vaguely inherited the laid-back mentality of his second brother and third sister, not so combative, and even seemed somewhat lazy. The elders in the family saw this and were somewhat worried, but they didn't want to force him to improve, and wanted to guide him gently.
Hearing that his grandfather Frank was waiting to fight him, Hillman was utterly devastated, his panic practically etched on his face: "Heh, heh, we'll see...we'll talk about it another time." In reality, he would definitely stay far away from his grandfather when he came, so as not to get caught and beaten by him.
Hillman did indeed deeply respect his grandfather, Frank. But the old man could be quite stubborn at times. Although he had never seen Frank pilot a mech, Hillman seemed to have already foreseen his grandfather's fighting style.
Butler Will saw through the child's insincerity but didn't expose him. He just smiled and led his assistants to set up the training facility, preparing it for them to use.
