Chapter 1449 A Strong Start but a Declining Finish
"You must think we're fools!" Antonio's face darkened.
"I thought you'd unravel this rubbish and exchange it with us. Ha! Turns out it's just an empty promise. You're really putting your abacus beads on my face, do you think we're three-year-olds? Go to hell!!"
This guy even wanted to turn against his own family and take their place. Once he's in power, will such a person really keep his promise and let those who were both executors and witnesses go?
Even if they aren't silenced in the end, they will definitely be kept under their control, their secrets guarded, and their usefulness fully utilized.
What do you mean by lifting the restrictions and giving them freedom? You're kidding me!
“Your cooperation doesn’t sound very sincere.” Lin Fan wasn’t as angry as Antonio, but his smile had faded, and he looked at Adrian with a serious expression.
"If we succeed, you'll be the head of the household, and our freedom will depend on your whims; if we fail, our fate is easy to imagine, while you can disappear without a trace. All conditions are against us. Your so-called cooperation is nothing more than one-sided exploitation of us."
“Hmm,” Adrian nodded, his expression unchanged, still smiling as he waited for Lin Fan to finish speaking, like a good listener. “What you said makes a lot of sense, so your answer is…”
"Of course we'd refuse!" Antonio stepped forward, pointing his finger at Adrian's nose and yelling, "Can't you understand human language? Would you agree to such a brain-dead collaboration if you were in his shoes?"
“That’s a bit of a shame.” Adrian frowned slightly, as if he genuinely felt sorry for the group. “Won’t you reconsider? After all, knowing my plan and not being able to cooperate… no matter how much I admire you, I can’t let you leave.”
"What?" Antonio said, hands on his hips and chin held high. "You want to kill me to silence me now? What did I tell you? With your depraved character, the conditions I agreed to won't end well either. Come on, bring it on, I'm waiting for you to show your tricks."
Adrian ignored Antonio and looked at Lin Fan: "What about the two ladies? You are both so young, your beautiful lives have just begun. You'll give me a different answer, won't you?"
Lin Fan shook his head: "Your suggestion is impossible. Enough with the nonsense, just use whatever methods you have."
"That's a real shame!" Adrian's smile faded as he slowly stood up. "But young people always have a chance to change their minds."
The next second, a sudden change occurred.
An invisible pressure suddenly rushed towards Lin Fan and his two companions.
Antonio, who was standing at the front, staggered back several steps, clutched his chest, and spat out a mouthful of blood.
Lin Fan pushed off with both feet, grabbed Lan Bingru with his backhand, and flew backward a short distance to dissipate the force.
However, with her spiritual power sealed, relying solely on her movement techniques, especially while carrying another person, her abilities were severely limited.
Lan Bingru felt as if she was being held, and unconsciously followed Lin Fan's movements, taking a dozen or twenty steps back before staggering to a stop.
"Are you alright?" Lan Bingru knew that neither of them had any spiritual power right now, so she put one hand on Lin Fan's shoulder to help him recover from any possible damage. When she looked up, she saw Antonio spitting blood, so she flicked her wrist and healed him.
"Huh?" Adrian narrowed his eyes. "You actually... have abilities?"
"You should have said we came here for sightseeing!" Antonio wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, cracking his knuckles.
After confirming again that Antonio and Lin Fan had suppression rings around their necks, Adrian became interested in Lan Bingru, who had been hiding behind Lin Fan.
As soon as she raised her hand, Lan Bingru felt a sharp pain in her shoulder and was sent flying over Lin Fan.
"Ah!" she screamed. Just as she saw Adrian's malicious smile, she felt Lin Fan grab her ankle.
The next second, that annoying smiling face was punched and sent flying.
"Hey!" Antonio shouted angrily, punching repeatedly. "I'm talking to you! Where are you looking?!"
Unfortunately, the only real damage to Adrian came from his first, unguarded punch.
Behind him, it was as if a transparent protective membrane had been erected around his body. No matter how Antonio attacked, he couldn't touch his body at all.
Adrian pressed down on Antonio's fist with one hand and slowly turned his head.
Antonio was frozen in place, his face flushed red, unable to even move his eyes.
“Disobedient child…” Adrian smiled elegantly at Antonio, “will be punished.”
With a slight tightening of his fingers, a crisp cracking sound of bones breaking was heard. Antonio's eyes were bloodshot, as if they were about to pop out of their sockets, as he stared intently at Adrian.
Lan Bingru's healing spell immediately covered Antonio's hands, but the next second, her neck was also grabbed by the seemingly elegant middle-aged man. "Ah!" Adrian confirmed with two fingers that Lan Bingru's neck was bare. "Miss who slipped through the net... now, do you want to change your mind?"
The hands around her neck tightened, making it hard for Lan Bingru to breathe. She unconsciously pulled her hands back and gripped Adrian's hands tightly, but she couldn't budge them an inch.
Adrian watched with satisfaction as the two tormented figures under his control, finally remembering there was one more. He looked up, but Lin Fan was nowhere to be seen.
He frowned slightly, and before he could look for anyone, he heard a crisp metallic scraping sound behind him, and suddenly felt a chill on the side of his neck.
What about you? Aren't you going to change your mind?
Lin Fan somehow appeared behind him, drew the sword from his back, and held it to Adrian's neck.
Adrian was startled and felt a sharp pain in his neck. Warm blood dripped onto his collar, quickly staining it red.
This woman really went for it!
Adrian loosened his grip and raised his hands in a gesture of surrender.
"Miss Lin, you are even more outstanding than I thought."
"Thank you," Lin Fan glanced at Antonio, who immediately rolled over to Lan Bingru's side and helped her to the side, then focused on dealing with Adrian. "But your evaluation means nothing to me."
“Oh, that’s really disheartening.” Adrian said this, but his tone betrayed nothing; instead, it was full of interest. “You’re right, my previous suggestion was subpar. Your abilities deserve better treatment. Why don’t we shake hands and make peace, and renegotiate the new terms?”
He turned his head, ignoring the blood streaming down his neck, and insisted on looking behind him.
Lin Fan remained unmoved, his sword motionless.
Unexpectedly, golden patterns appeared in Adrian's originally clear gray eyes, like some kind of totem.
With just a glance, Lin Fan sensed something was wrong and immediately retreated.
However, a force of confinement, solidified into a tangible form, locked her in the chair and transformed into countless fine threads that probed into her body, attempting to penetrate her meridians.
Adrian was destined to be disappointed.
Lin Fan's meridians had been tempered by the tribulation of ascension, so even though her spiritual power was sealed and temporarily unusable, it was not something that could be easily invaded.
She's only temporarily unable to mobilize her spiritual power; she hasn't changed bodies. Her physical strength remains exactly the same as before. Even high-level beastmen can't easily break through.
"Huh?" Adrian felt more and more that Lin Fan was a novel treasure, and the more he couldn't figure it out, the more interested he became.
“Miss Lin,” he took the sword from Lin Fan’s hand and lifted her chin, “I feel that I like you more and more.”
His hand slid down Lin Fan's chin to his neck, then gently moved to his left shoulder, until it touched a warm, furry object.
Adrian paused, then touched the back of his finger with the pad of his finger to confirm.
Suddenly, a dark shadow flashed by.
Adrian winced and withdrew his hand; several fine claw marks had already bled.
Looking up, I saw a pair of big, round, bright yellow eyes staring straight at me.
Before he could react, he was thrown aside by a tremendous force and slammed into the heavy curtain.
As the curtains fluttered, Adrian saw a black mech that shouldn't be there, standing in front of Lin Fan.
"Fuck!" Antonio's slightly distorted voice came from inside the mecha. "I hate villains like you who talk too much nonsense! You think you're the only ones who can transform!"
