Chapter 1480 The Glory of Annie
Chapter 1480 The Glory of Annie
A tall, imposing figure walked out of the darkness into the brightly lit hall.
He wore an expensive, deep purple velvet suit, impeccably tailored and exquisitely crafted. But upon closer inspection, traces of panic could be found.
“Imperio?” Adrian hadn’t expected this person to appear at this time. He turned around with displeasure. “In the dead of night, to barge into the deceased’s mortuary without prior notice—is this the honorable way for us Annie Demons to behave?”
“I’m sorry.” Impelio’s pale face showed no remorse as he replied matter-of-factly, “It’s my duty, and I meant no offense. Besides, there’s no one at the door.”
The implication was that it wasn't his fault.
Adrian narrowed his eyes. He had just seen Vallejo out and indeed hadn't seen the doorman. The butler must have been worried something might have happened and sent everyone away; he hadn't received any notification from him yet…
But who would have thought that, late at night, after seeing one off, another would arrive?
The old man's body was right there in the back. These people, even if they lacked respect, didn't they at least have any sense of propriety?
All that effort wasted; dying was completely pointless!
“I’m truly sorry,” Adrian said, showing no restraint towards the man before him as he did towards Valerius. “I wonder what business Lord Impelli has that requires him to come to my Finch family’s mourning hall so late at night?”
“By order of Lord Valerius,” Impellio said, unaffected by Adrian’s presence, “I have come to the Finch’s house to protect the Beast of the Burning Realm.”
Adrian had already shielded Chitose with his body at the first moment, so there was no point in hiding anything now.
Vallejo didn't want to make this a public spectacle, did he?
Well! Why is he worrying about this? It's obvious that this matter is no longer under his control, so let him save his breath.
Adrian, in a fit of despair, threw himself onto the sofa beside him, looking casually at the respectful Impelli.
"The way you're talking makes it sound like the Burning Beast could possibly encounter any danger in my Finch family home. You all know it's a Burning Beast, what kind of ghostly danger could it possibly pose?"
“Look on the bright side,” Antonio leaned in with a sly grin, “He might be here to protect you. After all, he does look quite reliable.”
"..." Adrian choked, looked at Chitose, then at Impelli, covered his face and laughed, "Come on, if the Burning Beast really wanted to kill someone, anyone who came would just be a sitting duck. He was sent by Valerius to monitor me."
“Take it easy,” Antonio patted Adrian on the shoulder. “You’re not that important. He’s here to spy on us.”
"..." Adrian choked again, not wanting to speak anymore.
“Hello!” Antonio greeted the unsmiling Impelli with a friendly smile. “Mr. Monitor, would you like to sit down first? The night is still long.”
"Please sit down. Although you came without any ceremony, I can't let people say I've lost my manners." Adrian completely abandoned his image management, resting his chin on his hand as he introduced the man to Chitose, "This is Mr. Zero Imperio. You may have heard of him from Gar. He's the one who came from the Loess Plateau, went through countless hardships, and finally piloted a mecha to become the Glory of the Anne Demon."
Adrian emphasized several words, but he didn't seem to care at all. His leather boots slammed onto the floor as he sat down on the sofa near Chitose.
"Nice to meet you, I am Zero Impellio." He sat down with the same upright posture, as if there was no difference between a sofa and a stool under his bottom.
"You can pilot a mech?" Antonio's eyes lit up. He walked around Lin Fan and moved next to Qian Sui, then plopped down next to him. "I heard that your orc mechs require a beast soul to activate. Were you born with a beast soul or did it develop later? Tell me, tell me..."
"No comment," Impelli said solemnly.
"Hey~" Antonio leaned back and put his foot on the coffee table. "I hate people like you who are tight-lipped. You're no fun at all."
This person seemed serious and self-disciplined. Lin Fan had already scanned him. It was a pity that she couldn't use her supernatural abilities right now and couldn't see the beast soul energy within him.
“Hey, I have to say,” Antonio couldn’t stay silent for more than two seconds before getting interested again, “why didn’t you ask him to remove the restriction rings for us? You could at least tell me that.”
“Yeah,” Adrian had suffered under Antonio’s treatment before, and now seeing him staring at the person who annoyed him, he suddenly felt a sense of satisfaction. “That was Lord Burning Beast’s order. Did your protection order mention whether you could disobey Lord Burning Beast’s orders?” Impelli turned his head to look at the little black cat licking its paws on the sofa, seemingly unconcerned about the current situation, before turning his face back.
“I’ve learned about them; their strength is remarkable. By removing the suppression ring without authorization and allowing them to regain their abilities, you have increased the security risks in Crystal City. This violates Crystal City’s security and prevention guidelines and is strictly prohibited.”
Adrian thought to himself, "I don't understand how they can cause such a huge uproar."
Have you ever seen someone who can transform into a mecha?
Scare you to death!
But seeing that Lin Fan and Antonio were still keeping their true intentions hidden... it's possible that he's the only one who knows about this.
Looking again, Qian Sui didn't even look directly at that dead pretentious guy... A strange sense of pleasure welled up in my heart.
Adrian couldn't hide the upturned corners of his mouth and asked, "But Lord Burning Beast said he wants to demolish it, I dare not disobey. Why don't you ask Lord Burning Beast?"
Impelli glanced in the direction of Chitose and found that it had curled up in a ball with its back to him, as if it were asleep. Ignoring Adrian's provocation, it turned back and sat up straight.
"Watching this is making my back hurt," Antonio said, pouting as he lay back on the sofa, resting his head on the armrest. He asked Adrian, "Did you know that Tigar was in trouble just now?"
“I know.” Adrian’s smile faded. “He’s the one who informed me that you were brought here by Herman. I guess it’s for the auction tonight, so I rushed over.”
"Gal isn't dead?" Lin Fan asked. "Did Herman hold back?"
“He’s not dead.” Adrian shook his head. “Herman didn’t hold back either. That’s just the good thing about orcs: they’re tough and resilient.”
"Is he alright?" Antonio asked casually, having spent a few days with Gareth.
"Not good, but he won't die either." Adrian chuckled. "It's rare that you guys still care about him. I thought you all hated orcs like him."
"Why?" Lin Fan retorted, "Because of what he did? Then we should hate you, the culprit, first."
“That’s true.” Adrian grinned, showing off his bright white teeth.
"Is this something I can talk about?" Antonio looked curiously at Impelli, who had no expression at all and was like a statue.
“There’s nothing to worry about.” Adrian waved his hand. “I’m the head of the Finch family now. Things are different now. This little thing is no big deal.”
"Are you sure controlling the underground transactions in the Graystone settlement is a trivial matter?" Lin Fan raised an eyebrow and glanced at Impelli, who, as expected, remained expressionless and motionless.
“That’s the result of different levels of understanding,” Adrian laughed. “That’s why I wanted status in the first place – I wanted to do things without any constraints.”
Lin Fan and Antonio exchanged a glance, wondering if his "matter" was implied something.
"They're indifferent to such a large industry as the Greystone Settlement," Lin Fan's gaze swept over Impelli, "but they're still resentful about lifting the ban..."
Sure enough, Impelli's gaze immediately fixed on Lin Fan.
“Mr. Impelio,” Lin Fan asked, “I’m a little curious. You seem to be a purebred, right?”
"Don't you have any sympathy for us, fellow human beings, who are restricted in our abilities, deprived of our freedom, and forced to be auctioned off in Crystal City, to be enslaved by orcs?"
