Emperor's Bane

Chapter 815 Murder

Chapter 815 Murder (22)

Rana took action.

He moved so fast that no one present could see what the Lord Commander of the Guards did, except for a few old friends of the Dawnbreaker, the Wolf Lord and the Rune Priest.

He turned his head carelessly, and his iron boots brushed the ground casually, avoiding the slightly trembling muzzle of the gun in the mortal's hand. He bent his arm, snatched the pistol, threw it lightly, and held it tightly in his other hand: when the mortal realized that the situation had changed, the muzzle of the gun had been turned to point at the fleet commander's forehead.

And he just realized what seemed to have happened.

"you……"

"boom!"

Rana did not hesitate: the sound of the limbs falling heavily to the ground was so pleasant.

But alas: the screams and the sound of bullets being loaded soon drowned out everything.

Heads were smashed to pieces, gold medals were scattered all over the ground, blood and debris slapped on the faces of the mortal officers, finally making them realize what had happened. Some of them roared in anger, and more guns were pointed at the Chief Guard: but some mortal officers were desperately retreating, trying to stay away from the vortex of conflict at all costs.

Lana didn't care about this, because his old friend had already taken action: his subordinates had been observing carefully when the mortal team was gradually split due to the conflict between the fleet commander and the Dawnbreakers, and as soon as the gunshots rang out, they quickly attacked from their respective positions, aiming directly at the fleet commander's most loyal supporters.

The mortals had to stop, but they gritted their teeth and refused to put down their guns. The combat conference room fell into deathly silence for a while: the Dawnbreakers and the mortal guards stood opposite each other, one side remained silent, while the other side was consumed by shock, anger and belated fear.

"All-Father."

It was not until this time that the Wolf Lord stood up slowly, the old Rune Priest followed behind him, and the twelve Space Wolves raised their guns and pointed them at the two sides of the conflict.

The mortals were terrified by this, but the Dawnbreakers remained unmoved: Lana had brought along veterans who had been through many battles, and they could clearly feel that although there were at least six Space Wolves aiming at them, the muzzles of their guns were all raised slightly upwards without exception.

Even if they really opened fire, the bullets would only miss their armor.

"Okay, everyone."

The Wolf King walked up to Lana, grabbed the gun muzzles of the Dawnbreaker and the mortal soldier at the front with his two hands, and suppressed them with brute force.

"We're still at war: let's not fight over a trivial misunderstanding, okay?"

The Wolf Lord turned his back to Lana and looked at the mortals who dared to draw their guns with a smile on his face. His clear stance made the fleet commander's remaining diehards look at each other in bewilderment. They looked around, but found that no one wanted to stand on their side.

"very good."

Feeling the silent concession, the Son of Russ nodded with satisfaction.

"You are such a fool, brother."

He looked at Lana.

"We are now in a bit of a dilemma: where should we find a successor?"

"No need to worry."

Lana smiled.

"If I remember correctly, the expeditionary fleet has its own wartime replacement system."

After saying this, Dawnbreaker looked at the mortals who had not drawn their guns.

"Who is the replacement for the Fleet Admiral?"

After a few breaths, an officer dressed obviously more simply walked out from among the mortals. He glanced at the fleet commander's body, which was still warm, as if he was looking at a stone. Then, he bowed slightly to the Space Wolves and Dawnbreakers, and his voice sounded neither humble nor arrogant.

"I am."

Standard Terran dialect.

"According to military terms, I will temporarily assume the post of commander of the 40th Expeditionary Fleet."

After saying this, he looked at the mortal officers and soldiers who were still holding their guns.

"Everyone put their guns down."

After Rana signaled his Dawnbreaker colleagues to do the same, peace finally returned to the conference room: Although there were still a few mortal guards who looked very dissatisfied, they forced themselves to resist the urge.

"Very good, Mr. Commander."

Lana nodded in satisfaction.

"Do you think the battle plan I just proposed is feasible?"

"of course."

The new fleet commander is trying his best to maintain his dignity.

"As long as you can ensure that the data storage device can be smoothly handed over to the management department under the control of Holy Terra after being extracted, I have no reason not to accept this plan."

"Of course I will."

Rana didn't care.

"The loyalty of the Dawnbreakers has stood the test of the Emperor and time."

"Phew... I have no doubt about it."

The fleet commander breathed a sigh of relief, and after a brief hesitation, he added another sentence.

"After the operation, I will report everything that happened here to Terra truthfully, including all..."

He glanced at the body on the ground.

“Inappropriate remarks.”

Then he quickly added another sentence.

“I promise to be transparent.”

Before Dawnbreaker could respond, a cold voice came from the corner.

"I will also transmit the video footage of what just happened back to Terra."

Looking up, the military chaplain was still looking at all of them calmly.

"It's my duty, isn't it?"

Dawnbreaker simply nodded. He was not worried at all that the noble bloodline of the former fleet commander would bring him any trouble.

"Well, we'll take our leave then: I still have to prepare for the war."

"The Emperor blesses you."

After some hesitation, the new fleet commander took the pistol handed to him by Lana.

"You too."

Throwing down a few words, Morgan's chief guard left without looking back, while the Wolf Lord of the Sixth Legion smiled and quickened his pace to catch up with him. The Dawnbreakers and Space Wolves followed behind their respective leaders and disappeared outside the gate in the blink of an eye.

Lana walked in front and heard the door of the operations room close behind him, but even so, he could still sense what was happening behind the door: as soon as he left, there was a fierce quarrel, and the new fleet commander was obviously dealing with several angry mortal guards.

It’s easy to imagine: what will happen to the bodyguard if the protected person dies?
Before he had walked far, he heard a few more crisp gunshots, and finally the new commander ordered the battlefield to be cleaned up and summoned all subordinate officers in his calm and ruthless voice: Lana didn't care what happened afterwards, because his mission had been completed anyway.

"You really did something wrong this time."

The Wolf Lord who was walking side by side with him was also paying attention to all this. It was not until the gunshots rang out that he smiled with satisfaction.

"You think I shouldn't kill him?"

"Do not."

The Wolf Lord shook his head, and a fierce light flashed in Fenris's pupils.

"I mean: if anyone dares to say that about my Primarch and my Legion."

The sound frosted the air.

"I won't let him die so easily."

From the ranks of the Space Wolves behind him came a burst of rude laughter.

"But I have to say it."

Laughing loudly, the outgoing Wolf Lord put his arm around Lana's shoulders and touched his shoulder like a brother.

"You did a great job. It turns out that Dawnbreaker is so courageous."

Lana glanced at him and said nothing.

"Peace of mind."

That didn't stop the scion of Leman Russ from unleashing his passion there.

"When this is over, I will write a letter to Terra: Never mind what lord is behind that fool, he is courting death by spreading rumors about the Primarch. Even if he goes after Malcador, we are still right in this matter."

"Thank you."

"Don't be so polite."

The Wolf Lord waved his hand, and then his expression became somewhat serious.

"Do you know why I help you?"

"Because I and the old friends around me all participated in the Randan War. We have not forgotten that it was your Primarch who saved the Wolf King and our brothers in a critical moment. You should regard this as a trivial repayment." "Really?"

Lana was actually a little lonely: they didn't even know that their Primarch had actually saved Leman Russ's life before.

But then again.

"Those Terrans."

Lana recalled the fleet commander's face and still found it a little unbelievable.

"Are they all like this?"

"Hey, don't mention it."

The Wolf Lord spat, mumbling some obscene words.

"It was fine in the early years. Although the Terrans had always been arrogant, they had fought alongside us and the Primarch, so they didn't dare to go too far."

"But who knew that after Nikaea, these decent Terrans died or retreated, and were replaced by guys who haven't even grown all their hair yet. Even if these guys are probably capable, it's impossible to expect them to treat us well."

"Nikea again..."

Lana muttered.

"Who says it's not true? The impact of this incident on the empire is really getting bigger and bigger."

The Wolf Lord also sighed.

"These new generation Terran kids were born after the Great Crusade. As far as they can remember, they have been the masters of the galaxy, able to dictate to hundreds of worlds. They have never seen the Emperor or the Primarch, have never been on the battlefield, and have not experienced much of the Great Crusade. They always think that God is the boss and I am the boss."

"In their eyes, we Astartes fighting on the front lines are probably no different from those mortal generals bowing and nodding in their palaces. They might even regard us as the cyborg slaves beside them."

"Is it that exaggerated?"

Lana frowned.

"What do you think?"

The Wolf Lord rolled his eyes at him.

"Brother, one hundred and sixty years have passed since the Great Crusade. Do you know how many generations those mortals have passed on? For these newly born cubs, their grandfather's grandfather has only seen the Emperor and the Primarch. We are no different from legends."

"The one you just killed was considered lucky. At least he wanted to come to the front line. The reason he was so crazy was because he was just a small figure from a wealthy family. He bet his life and property on this commander position. If the military order leaves a stain, his life will be ruined."

"It's no different than being beaten to death by you."

"Is it?"

Rana really didn't know this.

"Do you think?"

"Those old bastards on the War Council would record even the mistakes of the Primarch, so they wouldn't care about a small character like him. They don't care what your difficulties are. If you issue a military order, it can't be completed. How can they investigate all the generals one by one?"

"He's still okay."

The Wolf Lord gritted his teeth.

"Those who remain in Terra are the ones who really make me feel bad. Although there are still some smart people among them who understand things. When the Terrans born now grow up and take up management positions in a few decades, that will be the time for us veterans to feel better."

"That's two hundred years: enough for these mortal families to replace several generations?"

"Those kids who were born with silver spoons in their mouths think that the galaxy belongs to them by birth, just like commodities on the shelf. They don't think there is anything special about us veterans: compared with these bastards, the Sigillites and the High Lords look pretty good."

"..."

Lana was speechless: he realized that the Wolf Lord's words were not alarmist.

"Forget it, let's not talk about this useless stuff."

The Wolf Lord spat again.

"After you finish your work, remember to come back to the legion with me. The Norman recruits you have trained are quite good. The Wolf King is very satisfied with their performance. He wants to have a few drinks with you in person and have a chat."

"Don't worry, with him patting his chest, this little thing here is nothing."

"I wasn't worried."

Rana's smile was confident.

"Don't forget who my Primarch is."

"Ah...ah! Indeed!"

The Wolf Lord laughed.

"Your mother: asking her to hand you over is a pipe dream."

"Okay, there's no need to worry about that."

The scion of Leman Russ breathed a sigh of relief.

“But the letter still needs to be written.”

"Well...you said..."

Then, he hesitated.

"What should I tell them?"

"What's going on here?"

------

"murder."

"This is murder."

"..."

"Is this the letter for help sent by the advance troops of the Emperor's Children?"

Sitting on his throne, the Wolf Shepherd God frowned.

"They encountered... a murder?"

"According to the data, they are spider-like aliens called Megarachnids. They live on an ordinary world, with no orbital space stations or fleets. This caused the advance troops of the Third and Ninth Legions to seriously underestimate the strength of their opponents."

Sejanus had recovered from his injuries, and he held a clipboard in his hand, telling his primarch the information in a clear and organized manner.

"That's it..."

Horus nodded.

"How many of them are there?"

"The advance team only has a few hundred people. Because the main forces of the two masters, Phoenix and Angel, are clearing out a group of stubborn pirates' dens, it will take some time to send support. On the contrary, we are closer to this [Murder Star]."

"Then go and give them a hand."

Horus made his decision without hesitation.

"Which company is the closest?"

"It's Brother Torgaddon and his company."

"Torgarton? Is he healed?"

"He's not fully recovered yet, and it still affects his combat status in many cases, but he insisted on returning to the front line."

"Really..."

Horus shook his head, feeling somewhat helpless towards his optimistic yet stubborn offspring.

"Then let him go. Also notify all nearby companies to go and provide support as soon as possible."

"We will do the same: notify the fleet to set sail as soon as possible."

"clear."

Sejanus nodded.

"So, should we tell Master Morgan?"

"of course."

The wolf shepherd god smiled.

"Trust me: she won't miss the chance to reunite with Sanguinius."

After Sejanus took the order and left, Horus sat on his throne, muttering to himself.

"Um, Murder Star?"

"This location is a little too close to the Federation of Kings that the natives are talking about, isn't it?"
