Chapter 1317 The So-called Emperor

"Let me review the situation. I have read the post-war report written by the Royal Court Guard in detail... things seem a bit bad."

Oliveira first observed the expressions of the Supreme King and the Emperor, and when he found that there was nothing unusual about the two, he pointed out the problem in one sentence: "Humans and dwarves trust each other's abilities too much... This is a fatal point."

"Is this also a problem?" Kurt spoke on behalf of the emperor. Believing in dwarves is the consensus of the empire. Your mother may become a Chaos believer tomorrow and sell you out.

But as long as the dwarf brother makes a promise, they will keep it even if it means death.

"Of course this is a problem. Let me give you an example. When Emperor Karl was attacked by cavalry and goblins, and saw the dwarves being slowed down by artillery fire, what was his first reaction?"

Carl supported his chin with his hands and did not respond to Oliveira's question with a gloomy face.

Seeing that the emperor didn't say anything, Oliveira knew that he must be concerned about his face and couldn't say some things in person.

"If my guess is correct, it must be to support the dwarves and help them successfully resist the artillery attack. As long as the Eternal Guards can let go, the green-skinned cavalry will no longer be a threat."

This is a compliment to the dwarves, but it doesn't mean Oliveira is not prepared to speak out about them.

"And the dwarves... Argrim, what on earth were you thinking? You let the War Lords charge into the greenskin encirclement with you, causing the uncontrolled butchers to carry out suicide attacks."

Agrim stammered, not knowing what to say for a moment. He certainly knew that fighting alone was a foolish act. If he could stay where he was and lead the butchers to strangle the approaching greenskins, it would greatly speed up the dwarves' advance instead of being trapped in the double siege of mincing and artillery bombardment.

"This brings us to Imrik..."

The Butcher King planned to use people who were not present to absolve himself of responsibility, at least to save face.

"Phoenix King...he might compete with you to see who can dash faster."

After looking at each other, the two reached a tacit understanding and did not elaborate on the matter any further.

"The dwarves hoped that the Empire could continue its past speed, advance quickly to occupy the front line, and then gradually launch a general attack on the greenskins after joining forces. However, in the absence of cavalry, the Empire's speed was still slightly insufficient, resulting in the greenskin cavalry taking the lead.

According to the two major principles of war, to concentrate firepower to the maximum extent possible, to create a comparative advantage in strength and to use more troops to defeat fewer troops locally, and to minimize the enemy's effective firepower to preserve our own manpower, your plan is not reasonable."

He looked around at the thoughtful crowd and asked in disbelief, "Isn't His Majesty the commander? Didn't he say anything?"

Carl and Thorgrin blushed when this matter was mentioned. The Phoenix King proposed a plan to let the artillery enter the field first to maximize the firepower advantage before the greenskins could react.

The small number of Royal Guards and the presence of the giant dragon can effectively cover the slow-moving artillery.

This plan seemed ridiculous, because the Empire did not want to take the risk of letting the elves bear the fate of its expensive artillery, and the dwarves did not want to fight a cannon battle with the greenskins when the mountain fort was right in front of them.

Carl coughed twice. He now realized how well the High King understood Caledo's military structure. A few days ago, Atila was busy probing him and there was no valuable conversation at all.

The Chariot Princess was obviously not prepared to spend too much energy on this war. She was more concerned about the interests of the elves than whether Karak Dreadnought survived.

Oliveira, on the other hand, was a pure soldier who didn't talk about anything irrelevant. "Ahem, Mr. Oliveira, your analysis makes sense. Can you listen to me for a few words?"

"Of course. Go ahead."

Karl looked solemn. After counting the losses, he found that the casualties suffered in the canyon were enough for him to rightfully snatch Kallonburg from Boris.

To the emperor, life may be just a string of numbers, and he needs to think about how to make sacrifice more valuable.

It is impossible to abandon the alliance with the dwarves. The only thing that can be done is to increase investment in the war and obtain more favorable conditions at the summit.

“Reviewing the battle situation is certainly important, but the most important task right now is how to lift the siege of Karak Dreadnought Fort. Now that the canyon leading to the gate of the mountain fort has collapsed, the only thing we can do is to attack from other places.

This is not a good choice. The greenskins will certainly set up ambushes on other roads leading to the mountain fortress. Our most important artillery has already lost its advantage..."

An equally heavy burden fell on Thorgrim. He racked his brains to find some useful men, but even for Fort Desolation and Fort Horn, which were the closest to Karak Dreadnought, it would take a long time to assemble the men. Moreover, the scale of these two mountain forts was not much larger than Fort Dreadnought, making it difficult to really decide the outcome of the battle.

If we lose our artillery advantage and turn to complex mountain warfare, it means that humanity is likely to lose a powerful arm.

The Gray Mountains are no different from the low hills within the Empire; there are towering mountains everywhere. Although not as high as the mountains at the edge of the world, they are also complex and steep enough.

"Mountain warfare... This is indeed a difficult problem." Oliveira was a little distressed. If it were Caledo, there would be no need to worry about this. The Dragon's Back Mountains are not lower than the Gray Mountains. We are all mountain people, so who would be afraid of greenskins?

But as for humans... we can only pray to Sigma.

After discussing for a long time, the emperor finally made a surprising decision.

"High King, is there a road that leads directly to Karak Dreadnought?"

"Yes... but it's an extremely long and narrow passage. Even if goblins were to stay at the intersection, they could hold out for a year on the hilltop fortress."

Karl looked resolute, his angular face full of firmness and tenacity, he must have made a decision in his heart.

"I will personally lead the Reik's Guards to attract the greenskins' attention. The rest will be left to you."

"Are you... serious?" Oliveira was a little skeptical. This was a bit stupid. The best way now was for each group of elite teams to gradually put pressure on the inside and encircle and suppress the greenskins, and finally lure them out of the safe range.

Moreover, in name this was a rescue mission for Karak Dreadnought, but in reality it was to eliminate the greenskins. Simply successfully entering the fortress would not help the battle situation much.

Carl sighed, "I know this plan is too stupid, but if Karak Dreadnought Fort falls, the heartland of Rickland will become defenseless. My duty as the emperor and the ancient covenant between races require me to make some necessary choices."

Thorgrin nodded calmly. Regardless of whether Carl's words came from his heart, as long as he dared to lead the charge, the Supreme King would recognize him as a qualified emperor. (End of this chapter)
