Chapter 1654, Epilogue

Chapter 1654, Section 287: Epilogue
The quartermaster hesitated to speak, but his expression said it all.

The person in charge of Huohu Town was somewhat confused, but could only stand there anxiously.

“Then forget it, Mr. Fafnir, right?” Adam didn’t press further, but instead looked at the person in charge.

"Yes, that's me. How can I help you?" The person in charge ignored the quartermaster's constant winks.

"There is indeed one thing. Since we can't borrow warhorses, I'd like to ask if Huohu Town has a teleportation array, or a way to get to the pass as quickly as possible with griffins?"

"We have a teleportation array, but it won't open until all the supplies arrive by evening. We also have griffins, so we can set off now!" the person in charge said hurriedly.

"Then I'll trouble you to have the griffin take me there."

"No problem, I'll get ready!"

“I’ll go with you,” Adam said, glancing at the quartermaster who was giving a wry smile and nodding to him.

This is interesting. He still has a good impression of his group, so... did someone just say something to him, telling him not to help him?

“You’ll be stationed here, and we’ll bring you back after the mission is over,” Adam told the Hellfire soldiers.

The complaining soldier hesitated to speak.

The plot is wrong, should we still follow the script...?
No sooner had Adam and the person in charge left than the quartermaster hurriedly slipped into a house not far away.

The Lordaeron lieutenant was inside, watching Adam's retreating figure with a wry smile. In the end, he didn't do anything to give the griffon a laxative and force the script back on track.

The griffin carried the knight and Adam, and they arrived at the northern pass in less than an hour.

While Adam personally delivered the letter to Marshal Galkin's tent, completing his mission, the other four trainee commissars were still battling wits with the script.

……

The map is fake, and the ratmen's message isn't.

Sauron found the forest the ratmen had described, finally able to escape the heat and rest for a while.

The scouts ventured into the woods, investigating while searching for water. Soren continued examining the flawed map, pinpointing the group to an empty area.

If the location of the destination is correct.

Soon a scout returned and found a puddle.

"Boil the stagnant water before drinking it," Soren ordered. "Everyone rest where you are, and we'll continue our journey before sunset."

With about four hours left until sunset, they had traveled more than thirty miles, but were still eighty miles from the northern pass, a consequence of their detour.

But the script clearly wouldn't allow the trainee political commissars to complete their mission smoothly. Another scout quietly left the woods to meet the "parachuted" actor at the edge and lead him back to the temporary camp.

So, Sauron, who had been resting under the tree, had to stop resting after only a few minutes of recovery.

The actor brought by the scout paused for a moment when he saw the Hellfire soldier wearing a rat skin, then showed fear and stumbled backward, only to be knocked down by a tree root.

Rick has always dreamed of becoming an actor with lines, but there are probably thousands of people like him in Liberty City. He doesn't have much talent, so he can only be an extra, standing behind the main characters and playing the role of the "crowd" who makes comments.

Having finally gotten such a special opportunity, how could he not perform well?

Soren didn't notice that he had used too much force; he was just looking at the hunter-dressed man thoughtfully.

Are there any villages nearby?
“Don’t be nervous, we are the Hellfire Legion, just passing by.” Sauron reassured the “local hunter” with a few words, and when he asked where he was from, he was told that there was a village nearby.

"Where is your village?" The local hunter pointed north.

"Which side is the northern pass?"

The term "local hunters" still points north.

Resting in the village was certainly better than resting in the woods, and it would also allow him to gather information and resupply. However, just as Soren was about to speak, the "local hunters" asked him for help, saying that the village had been frequently attacked by rats recently and they hoped that the hunters could help them exterminate the rats.

Soren suddenly hesitated. Clearing out the rats would definitely delay his mission, but if he didn't help, the village would certainly not be able to stop the rats.

Don't be fooled by the fact that regular legions often face endless swarms of rats; in rural villages, a few hundred ratmen were enough to wipe out an entire village.

Sauron thought of his homeland... The mission could be postponed, but the ratmen must die!

"Lead the way."

In the woods and on the grasslands, the trainee political commissars all encountered "local villagers" without prior arrangement.

The education they received at the academy made it impossible for the four trainee political commissars to stand idly by, especially since this was an assessment, so they naturally participated in the defense. Even those trainee political commissars who initially avoided the rat swarm and wanted to continue avoiding it could only persuade the villagers to evacuate to the rear.

The villagers were unwilling to leave, so he said, "The rats scattered by the kingdom are dispersed throughout the grassland, and the rat people keep coming. They will find you sooner or later."

"Soldiers, please help us..."

"We're not the masters, of course we'll help you, but we'll be leaving sooner or later, what will you do then?"

Under the persuasion of the trainee political commissar, the "villagers" had no choice but to abandon their "homes" and retreat to the rear.

Frank and another trainee commissar did similar things; while resting in the village, they helped clear out the nearby rats, and then advised them to give up and continue their journey after they had rested.

However, when Frank set off at dusk, he made sure each soldier carried a torch so that they could be seen for miles around.

Only Sauron did it the most thoroughly.

He ordered the villagers to cut down trees in the woods to build walls, set traps outside the village, and recruited young villagers to form a militia for defense.

By the time he finished, it was already dark. He assigned fifty men to protect the village, explaining that once they reached the pass, the local garrison would clear out any rats that had entered the area, and they could continue their journey.

Frank considered his stay in the village as a rest, so he traveled through the night and by dawn, he was only about 20 miles away from the northern pass.

Meanwhile, the probationary political commissar, who had been avoiding battle, had already spotted the distant pass and camp.

Frank and another trainee commissar were the slowest, having spent a significant amount of time in the village. They were just over 100 kilometers away, but there was still plenty of time, and they could arrive before the third day.

……

As the fighting at the pass gradually subsided, Qiongan's spirits shifted from tense to relaxed, and she even had some leisure time to unwind.

When she had free time, she would take her recruited subordinates and do whatever she could to help out at the wounded soldiers' camp.

Time passed slowly. After a long period of peace, Joan began to miss the battles on the battlefield. However, Grand Marshal Galkin disagreed, believing that the matter now fell to the Kingdom of Dimon.

The result of months of bloody battles at the northern passes was that he lost a lot of weight, his face became thin and gaunt, and his youthful appearance was replaced by new, crisscrossing scars.

Who would have thought that this girl, who looks like a mercenary, is actually the same age as Annan?
