Chapter 1772, Section 405: I Want Them All

Annan retorted without hesitation: "As a succubus, I've never seen a succubus become a ratman."

Biros, unaware of the source of their conflict, warned them, "Your mission is to eliminate the Rat King, and I don't want your conflict to cause the mission to fail."

"Russ, you need to work with Olme to carry out the mission perfectly."

"Understood, Lady Beryl."

"I will carry out your will."

Annan and Ruth spoke at the same time, exchanged a glance, and then turned their faces away.

The gargoyle leader's back was neither as broad nor as fast as a dragon's. It took him nearly two days to fly from the far north to the old lands of the Kingdom of Rikan'er.

The chaotic forces of the North—the ratmen and demons—ravaged everything in their path, leaving only ruins standing on a desolate land devoid of any greenery.

Vitalig wants to return to his old home? That's not something he can accomplish in his generation, or even in two generations of his descendants.

Perhaps returning would be simple; they could simply stay on the west coast, wait for the empire to achieve final victory, and then stand on the sidelines to enjoy the fruits of victory.

But restoring this land to its former prosperity... is not something that can be accomplished by several generations, or even a dozen generations. "What are you lamenting about?" Russ, sensing Annan's guilty conscience, turned around and questioned him.

Annan remained calm: "This seems to be the hometown of Annan's stuff?"

"That's long gone. The Annan family is further north."

Annan withdrew his gaze: "You, a dignified succubus, are actually so concerned about a human?"

"He's human, but far superior to you succubi." Ruth tilted her head slightly, her prejudice against succubi obvious.

Ruth laughed at Olme, whose charm was just a fraction of Annan's. Annan laughed at Ruth, who couldn't even recognize his idol and went off to play with model kits.

The number of rats on the ground gradually increased, and the earth became pitted and uneven—the excess soil dug by the ratmen into their nests turned into ugly mounds of earth, like the scales and keratin on a skin patient's body. Annan felt uncomfortable looking at them and wanted to fill the reconnaissance airship with oil and drop it down.

He remembered that when he left Liberty City, Dumbledore and Martin were leading the charge in conquering the 100-meter-class airship—don't laugh, Martin was really helpful.

If we can develop the airship behemoth before the final battle, which greatly increases its carrying capacity, we might actually be able to achieve military merit in the fight against the northern chaotic forces.

The ground was riddled with spiraling pits over a thousand feet deep, their walls riddled with honeycomb-like holes. Outside, piles of rubble and mud-plastered shacks stood. Roofs were covered with rotten planks and scraps of leather, and hunched figures constantly crawled in and out of them.

The decaying wood and rusted supports of the bridge resemble exposed blood vessels, oozing a foul, reflective light in the twilight.

Savage, chaotic, disorderly, filthy—these words perfectly encapsulate the appearance of this rat nest.

The gargoyle leader circled several times above the swirling pit before landing on the outermost layer closest to the surface, guided by the fel energy.

The faint stench that had begun to waft above the rat's nest grew stronger and more complex, a mixture of the stench of rotting flesh, rust, and moldy grains, relentlessly tormenting Anan's nostrils—the lust demon frowned, clearly in the same discomfort.

A long procession of ratmen carrying heavy ore passed by not far away, followed by several familiar Blade Demons. An elegant vampire covered his mouth and nose with a handkerchief, his brows almost piercing his eyes, as he hesitated and wandered among the yellowish-brown, muddy, stinking ditches.

That's right, because demons and ratmen have allied with each other, raising the banner of the forces of chaos, and there are quite a few demons and other chaotic and evil creatures in the rat nests.

Therefore, this assassination of the Rat King was also a covert operation. Whatever Annan and Ruth did, the demons would not admit it.
