Chapter 1860, Chapter 493 Deployed

Chapter 1860, Section 493: Deployment
"The Kingdom of Dimon sent a message through Joan that Old Val Town can be handed over to them."

The messenger stood outside the door, panting heavily as he spoke.

Olmedo nodded: "No problem. Tell them we'll start from the Northern Wall and clear out the Grey Mountain Range."

The empire has made a desperate gamble by sending all its troops from the north, leaving the north vulnerable and the border almost entirely reliant on the assistance of two allies.

The Kingdom of Dimon has chosen to take over the main battlefield from the Empire, so Free City will share the pressure on the periphery and work together to defend against enemies outside the Middle-earth.

Otherwise, it would be too humiliating for the Empire to venture deep into the heart of Chaos, cut off the head of High Priest McKenne, and then turn around to find that its home was gone.

Just in case, they will thoroughly plough the mountains and plains between the Great Wall and Old Vale—as a practice run and a trial run before the big battle.

Except for the Royal Guard, which will not participate in the battle to protect the assets of Free City, the other six legions have all received their respective missions and, once ready, set off, appearing through portals along the Empire's long Great Wall.

Under a gloomy sky, the well-equipped Hellfire Legion marched out of the portal in perfect unison. The cold steel and unwavering resolve signaled the return of the Imperial Vision Legion that had remained behind.

As the first legion of Liberty City, having experienced all the battles large and small in Liberty City, the Hellfire Legion is an absolute elite force. They will undoubtedly serve as the main force, transforming into a sharp blade to pierce straight from the Great Wall in the north into the Gray Mountain Range.

Through intelligence gathered by the Imperial garrison stationed on the Wall, Fermi learned the current situation: after the National Religion Army and the three legions were mobilized, the Skaven went crazy trying to encircle and annihilate them, but realizing they couldn't keep up with the Empire's pace, they turned around and surged northward toward the Wall.

When the news reached Free City, Annan finally understood why the Empire had asked him and the Kingdom of Dimon to help with the defense.

This is both a trial for Liberty City and a test for the Empire—is Annan Reeves truly capable of becoming a candidate for the High King?

However, the anticipated defensive battle did not materialize—even as the army of the Kingdom of Dimon sensed their approach, they advanced into the Gray Mountain Range from the east, closing in on Old Val. Among the ratmen, a gray-haired rat priest was clearly in command, abandoning the northern Great Wall and using Old Val as a base to engage in a tug-of-war with the Kingdom of Dimon.

The Empire withstood the greatest pressure, and the Kingdom of Dimon shared the remaining burden. If the remaining burden is not handled well, Annan will have no face to make excuses.

Fermi, who had already memorized the map of the Gray Mountain Range before setting off, assessed the number of rats and instructed a messenger to inform the Kingdom of Dimon that they would arrive as soon as possible to join forces with the Kingdom's army to encircle Old Val Town.

It is located 50 miles from the Hellfire Legion, on the west side of the Northern Great Wall.

The Ranger Legion emerged from the portal one after another.

Their mission was to conduct guerrilla warfare, continuously weakening the enemy at the edge of the rat swarm, much like creating a firebreak outside the burning area when a forest fire breaks out.

[Commander Jack:]

You and your troops will be deployed to the western side of the Graymount Mountains. Intelligence indicates that a dozen small swarms of rats are roaming the area. Clear them out, then rendezvous with the Hellfire Legion and wipe out any Chaos monsters you encounter.

Enjoy your hunt!

After expansion, the foreign aid legion now numbers nearly 1000, and they will join the Punishment Legion and the alien legion to build the last line of defense at the Northern Wall.

Finally, the Winter Legion's mission was... to maintain order.

[Brinno Gana Legion Commander:]
News of the Chaos forces' southward advance spread, and many villains seized the opportunity to plunder our trading partners. Among them were ruthless bandit gangs and opportunistic, chaotic cults.

Neither is acceptable. Find them, seize them, and hang them with the rope of judgment.

Then take the rope back.

wow-

The parchment was torn open, revealing a pair of extremely unwilling eyes.

The female warrior Janna beside her, who was only wearing a bodice and holding two battle axes, hesitated before speaking: "Chief Brino..." "How many times have I told you, you have to use titles in the legion!" Brino Janna said unhappily.

"Commander Brino... are we really only capable of catching petty thieves?" the female warrior asked unwillingly.

"Or what, you could try seducing Annan and making him change his mind?"

The female warrior looked surprised and delighted: "Ah? Me? Is that okay?"

"You don't even look in the mirror! I haven't even had a taste, how dare you?" Brino Gana rudely kicked aside her tribeswoman and told her to call Gema over.

"Commander Brino Janna, what brings you here?"

Gemar was respectful; he was the clan chief, and so was Brino Gana, who was also his elder, the kind of person you'd call "Auntie" at private gatherings.

As for Annan Reeves... they each have their own version of events.

Brino Jana tossed him the parchment: "What do you think?"

After reading the above, Gema declared firmly, "I will obey the Deputy City Lord's arrangements!"

"What is the political commissar's opinion?"

“Commander, I have no objections.” Adam, the former probationary political commissar who had undergone testing and reformation and was now a full-fledged political commissar, stepped forward. “Unless something unusual happens, we just need to follow the orders of the command.”

Brino Gana Gana gritted her teeth; this was not the answer she wanted to hear.

But she couldn't refuse Liberty City's orders, so she could only vent her anger on the bandits who had guns at their throats.

……

"Why not send the Winter Legion to the front lines?" Annan was also puzzled by Olmedo's arrangement.

Although we are all from the North and have suffered at the hands of Chaos, when it comes to hatred for Chaos, no one can surpass the Winter's Legion.

"War is the ultimate test of any nation, any organization, any race, and any camp..."

Olmedo recited a classic quote from "On War," which Annan happened to know: "The Winter Legion is a legion formed by the Forsaken, the King of the North's personal guard, and these old soldiers are still bound by their old experiences, making mistakes and even neglecting the role of commissars."

Annan understood; Olmedo wanted to integrate the Winter Legion.

Brino Janna knew this, so she could only watch helplessly as the other legions went to the battlefield, and they could only fight them with wits and courage along the way.

Of course, thinking of the Royal Guard made her feel much better—after all, that guy named Losi could only stay in Free City obediently.

The arrival of the Winter Legion initially filled the smaller factions with fear and unease.

Although they had heard that Liberty City was known for its strict military discipline, no one had ever seen it in action—and no one thought it could be any better.

In this era, the private armies of lords did much more than bandits; wherever they went, it was commonplace for nobles to have their homes ransacked and be plundered. Only legions and knightly orders belonging to powerful forces would refrain from such misdeeds, but even then, their involvement was limited.

At least when there are clashes with locals and injuries or fatalities occur, no one is held responsible, and no one dares to investigate.
