Chapter 1871, Section 504: Netstone Soldiers
The firestorm did indeed stop the Blinking Rats. After several Blinking Rats that couldn't control their distance and blinked into the storm turned into green lightning, the other Blinking Rats stopped.

One of the Blinking Rats handed the Fel Stone to the Wild Rats, instructing them to throw it towards the other side of the firestorm.

The savage rat threw out the felstone, prompting the other blink rats to do the same. One blink rat chose a fool, who crushed the felstone with too much force, instantly turning into a puddle of green pus along with the rats within a five-meter radius.

But even more fel stones passed through the firestorm, falling on the other side of the wall and striking the knight golem.

The knight golem's body wasn't made of orogen; even steel could only withstand it for a few more seconds. Under the influence of fel energy, its fragile core and magical energy core were quickly exposed.

The knight golems, their cores damaged, swung their swords more and more sluggishly, standing there motionless. Some, even enraged by the destruction of their crucial cores, charged into the firestorm.
Most of the fel stones were blocked by the knight golems, while a small number of fel stones leaped over the defensive line and fell towards the defenders in the back row.

The crowd quickly scattered to avoid the danger, preventing major casualties, but the formation was disrupted and the city wall was corroded and pitted.

The first wave of felstones was followed shortly by the second and third waves.

The knight golem began to suffer heavy damage and lost its ability to fight.

But if they remove the knight golems, they will have to face the destructive power of the felstones.

A soldier from the Hellfire Legion suddenly broke formation. He quickly returned, clutching a net made of two magical muskets and rope, and ran towards the knight golem without stopping.

"What is he going to do?"

Commissar Frank recognized him—the soldier who had raised his hand earlier to ask if he could pick up the felstone and throw it back.

Could he have picked up the felstone? That's almost impossible; the felstone would explode the moment it hits the ground. There's no way he could have picked it up and thrown it back—

The soldier ran to a perfectly intact knight golem, but couldn't find a place to climb up. Suddenly, he had a brilliant idea and went around to the front.

The knight golem had just swung its serrated sword when it spotted a human in front of it. Having been indoctrinated not to harm its own kind, the golem stopped abruptly, frozen a few centimeters from the soldier's neck.

"Don't be afraid, it's my turn to protect you!"

The soldier wasn't afraid. He said comforting words as he climbed the serrated sword, stepping on the knight golem's arm to climb up to its shoulder.

As soon as I settled on your shoulder, a fel stone was thrown at me.

"It's now!"

With a shout, the soldier grabbed the makeshift scoop net and swung it at the evil energy stone!
Many people couldn't bear to watch, as if they were seeing the felstone explode and engulf them—but the truth was that when the felstone fell into the net, it didn't activate, but instead shot back at the same speed. A few seconds later, the firestorm extended and exploded into a ball of green light.

Is it really useful?!

The blink rat on the other side was also stunned by the rebounding fel stones, thinking there was a big fish on the other side, so more fel stones were thrown over.

not good!

Before we could even be happy for the soldiers, three or four evil stones were thrown in from different angles.

The soldier was as agile as a monkey, leaping and bounding across the knight golem, swatting back all four fel stones with a net without missing a single one, leaving everyone stunned.

"what's your name?"

Commissar Frank snapped out of his daze and shouted to the soldiers.

"Commissar, my name is Henry!"

"Henry, I hereby appoint you as a temporary centurion. You will lead a force, just like you are now, and drive the Felstones back. Can you do it?"

"As ordered!"

There weren't enough ropes available, and Henry considered using his clothes as a substitute, but a mage used a spider web spell to replace them even better. The soldiers, equipped with nets, stood together with the knight golems, and then a strange scene unfolded—the knight golems blocked the ratmen, who swung their bats to knock back the felstones.

Henry selected soldiers who were all professionals with faster reflexes. Except for the occasional unfortunate soldier who detonated the felstone due to tension and excessive force, most of the felstones were slapped back, striking the ratmen themselves.

Seemingly realizing that the Felstones were useless, the Ratman Priest abandoned the surprise attack and instead sent a mixed horde of Ratmen and Elite Rats to launch a strong offensive.

The firestorm was torn apart by the relentless swarm of rats, the knight golem's whirling sword blades grew increasingly sluggish, and worse, twenty minutes were almost up.

The knight golems gradually came to a stop, their pupils behind their visors dimmed, their arms hanging limply. With their last bit of energy, they took a step forward, smashing the ratmen who had just climbed up back down and collapsing the gentle slope they had built.

Taking advantage of the opportunity to rest and recover, the musketeers rushed back and, using the chance created by the knight golem, bravely picked up cannonballs and threw them outwards, temporarily recapturing the city wall.

As darkness fell, the meat grinder, which had been operating all day, showed no signs of stopping.

The sound of the swarming rats was clearer and more chilling in the darkness than during the day.

The ratmen have poor eyesight and don't need to. They just charge forward, but the soldiers who have been fighting all day can't keep up.

Their fingers were no longer under their control, devoid of any feeling. The soldiers could only insert branches into the triggers and then fire by pulling on the branches.

By the dim moonlight, Fermi looked out over the city walls and saw an endless swarm of rats.

After a day of fighting, they had annihilated at least 1000 million ratmen, as well as a large number of high-ranking ratmen.

But there are still a despairing twenty million ratmen...

While I was deep in thought, the dense swarm of rats climbed back up the city wall.

The artillerymen leveled their cannons and bombarded the swarm of rats that were climbing up.

Although the immediate problem was temporarily solved, the result of ceasing to bombard the area outside the city walls to reduce the density of ratmen was that more and more ratmen climbed up the city walls and surged towards them like a tide. Ratsmen on both sides also climbed up the city walls and surrounded the defenders.

……

The resistance fighters thought this wouldn't work and volunteered to lead a squad of soldiers out with torches to distract the rat swarm from the side.

Fermi shifted his gaze from the north: "We can't spare the time to support you."

"No need! Even if we die, we will fight and die for the Empire! Whew!"

"call!"

The berserker and the other resistance fighters let out a low growl.

After a moment's hesitation, Fermi spoke: "You won't die. Lure the rats away and head west; our comrades are on their way."

The resistance set off. A suicide squad of more than 700 Imperial soldiers carried conspicuous torches and broke through to the west. After breaking out of the rat swarm's encirclement, they landed outside the city walls in gondolas and then approached the rat tide without any concealment.

The swarm of rats spotted them and sent out a tentacle to entwine around them.

There aren't many, probably only a few hundred thousand ratmen, but that's enough to keep them occupied for half an hour.

The resistance was caught in a dilemma: luring away such a small number of ratmen would be ineffective, but if they didn't retreat quickly, they would be entangled.

The warriors looked to the berserker and let him make the decision.
