Chapter 1901, Section 534, Lily

Chapter 1901, Section 534: Lily (Part 1)

Annan did not act rashly. He climbed up the rock wall, squeezed through the swarming spiders, and observed from above for a while.

Once he was sure the dark elves weren't there, he leaped and landed lightly on the spiderweb-woven carpet, approaching the altar.

The spiders swarmed around the altar like a tide, and Annan rose and fell in the tide, squeezed to the edge of the altar, and quietly climbed up.

Apart from the sound of the surging spider swarm, there was no other sound in the cave. Amidst this, Annan successfully climbed to the top of the altar.

After circling the edge, Annan returned to the center, surveyed the empty altar, and muttered, "It seems there's nothing special about it..."

Just then, a shadow fell from above. Annan looked up in a daze and saw several spider silk threads extending from the darkness, like wings pulling a cold and beautiful dark elf down slowly.

"Found you, little guy."

Annan raised his two forelimbs: "Don't misunderstand, I meant no harm!"

"I know, but it doesn't matter."

As the dark elf spoke, he extended his hand to Annan.

Even from several meters away, Anan suddenly felt a jolt in his heart, as if his heart had been seized.

The next moment, the protective spell engraved on the mage's robes was activated instantly, teleporting Anan into the spider swarm beneath the altar.

wow-

As soon as Annan appeared, the spiders around him scattered.

He flashed again, and the spiders scattered in his wake. Wherever he appeared, the spiders there dispersed in large numbers.

A seductive chuckle drifted from the altar: "Little one, still trying to escape?"

Realizing there was nowhere to escape, Annan once again adopted a negotiating stance: "Do you know Mora? What about Moshi, Arya, and Lorthermar...?"

The dark elf, who had been toying with the expression of his prey, suddenly lost his smile upon hearing one of the names: "That bitch sent you?"

Which one is referred to as "cheap goods"?

Before Anan could react, the dark elf suddenly let out a shriek.

Invisible waves rippled outwards, and the spiders in the cave went mad amidst their howls, creating ever higher and higher waves.

This time, no spiders were far from Annam. He was swept up by the spider swarm and fought his way higher and higher.

"I'm here to find the little spider... Queen Rose!"

Annan's shouts were drowned out by the dense swarm of spiders, which surged and swept him away.

All he could see were dense spider legs, and all he could hear was the sound of spider legs crawling. Annan felt as if he had fallen into an underground river, being swept away by the unpredictable current into the unknown darkness.

I don't know how much time passed, but then a small light appeared before my eyes, and then quickly grew larger—

call--

Suddenly, light filled my vision, and the wind whistled in my ears.

"Wow——"

Annan gasped as the jet of water shot up from the ground, rising straight up more than ten meters into the air like a fountain before falling back down naturally.

puff.

He landed lightly on a patch of grass.

Being small has its advantages. Anan got up unharmed, his gaze passing through the low grass to the grassy slope ahead.

This is……

He saw a small town nestled in a meteorite crater basin.

……

Located beside a wilderness, it's called Green Field Town; with poor security, it's called Sin City; built in a meteorite crater, it's called Meteorite Town—you can say that barbarians' naming conventions are cliché and unoriginal, but they are certainly vivid enough.

The town was peaceful, free from the shadow of war and strife, and the townspeople lived quiet lives. This was something Annan found difficult to understand.

As a small town nestled between rat holes and spider holes, it's almost too peaceful.

Annan felt it wasn't that simple, so he observed every town resident... and even the cat.

Cats were the first anomaly discovered in Annam. For a small town with a population of only three or four thousand, there were far too many cats.

They gather in groups of three or five, lazily basking in the sun in the square, on the eaves, on the windowsill, and on the upright carts, wagging their tail tips, or sitting together as if plotting something, occasionally lowering their heads to lick their paws, actually observing their surroundings out of the corner of their eyes.

Why are there so many cats here?

A Nank man dressed as a sorcerer, wearing a cloak, asks for directions.

"They all came here a while ago. As soon as they arrived, the rats disappeared, and they're quite cute..."

Annan caught the key phrase: "A while ago... that is to say, there weren't so many cats in the town before."

I asked several people and got the same answer, and they all seemed a bit off... When they talked about cats, their faces were full of happiness and joy.

Children do this, cautiously touching the cats on the street corner, occasionally letting out a gasp of surprise when they touch one. Adults do this, placing wooden bowls of clean water in the corner. Even nobles do this, the women in their carriages cradling their lazy, sleeping cats in their arms.

Annan's attention shifted from people to cats. After observing them, he discovered that these cats were unusually intelligent and would even nod their thanks after begging for food from roadside shops.

The image of the silly cat appeared before Annan's eyes.

Spiders and cats... Annan felt very close to them.

Standing on the street looking for a target, he recalled the dark elves' reaction in the spider cave. They only drove him away instead of killing him. Was he right or wrong?

He quickly chose a black cat with white fur and a cow-like coat that was lying next to a pile of garbage.

It doesn't look very clean; its white fur is gray and yellow, and it has several bald patches caused by ringworm. Cats like this are the easiest to bribe.

Annan walked over, making sure to tiptoe.

The calico cat watched Anan approach, but instead of running away, it impatiently swung its tail wildly.

Annan squatted down and took out the dried fish he usually fed to Lily.

The black and white cat's eyes lit up, and it opened its mouth to bite, but it missed.

Annan, holding up a dried fish, stared at the cow cat and said, word by word, "Find me a cat."

The black and white cat licked its lips, unmoved, its amber-like eyes clearly saying: "Add some dried fish."

Annan paid three dried fish to get the cow cat to take him to find it.

Every time the cat walks down a street, it stops to eat a small dried fish.

After finishing the third dried fish, it led Anan to the town's small church.

The black and white cat climbed up the last step, sat there, and began licking its paws after eating and drinking its fill.

Annan entered the church and was greeted by worshippers hushed tones during Mass. Behind the pulpit stood not a statue of a compassionate god, but a cat.

The good news is that the cat is a silly cat; even if you shave its fur off, Annan will still recognize it.

The bad news is that it was just a statue.

Annan stepped out and stood in front of the cow-and-cat statue in the sunlight, saying, "What I'm looking for isn't an idol, it's a real cat."

The black and white cat glanced up at Anan, then nonchalantly lifted one of its hind legs and continued licking its fur.

Annan sneered. Trying to double-cross someone? No one has ever been able to take advantage of him!
A magic circle suddenly appeared on the steps in front of the church, taking shape within seconds.

"Meow?"

The magical light faded, revealing Lily sitting on the magic circle.
