Chapter 1920, Section 553: Who are you?

Chapter 1920, Section 553: Who are you?
"Hello, Lich." The silly cat wasn't so nervous anymore.

Annan explained, "The lich is just a rumor; in fact, the Skeleton King is a skeleton."

The silly cat stared in surprise at the surging soul fire in the Skeleton King's eye sockets: "A skeleton... I've never seen such a powerful skeleton before."

Skeletons are the undead, but the undead are not limited to skeletons. Liches, undead, bone dragons, banshees... these are all members of the undead race.

Skeletons are known for their weakness and are considered low-level cannon fodder in the undead army that makes up necromancers.

“Even a kobold can become a dragon vein warlock,” the Skeleton King replied humbly.

After introducing the two, Annan got down to business:

"I visited the princess on my way here. She's recovering very well, and it seems... she's already starting to regain her memories." He said this, but then hesitated, remembering the princess's embrace before he left.

Should the princess really be forced to confront the cruel truth? Or... should she at least have a choice?

“Annan, I was just about to tell you,” the Skeleton King put down his book. “Something is wrong with the princess.”

Annan was slightly taken aback: "What's wrong?"

"She has many memories that she shouldn't have."

For example, knowing which things are dangerous, and mastering the use of certain things without being taught.

"Isn't this normal? Many people with amnesia don't lose their language and bodily memories."

"Indeed, but she's deliberately hiding that."

Annam remains silent, which raises a question... Why is the princess hiding her identity?

If the princess regains her memories, even just a part of them, she will be eager to tell them.

Annan still tried to think positively: "Maybe it's some kind of post-war trauma; she doesn't want to recall the pain of the past and just wants to start a new life without any worries?"

The Skeleton King countered, "Do you think that's possible?"

Annan shook his head. The princess was not the kind of person who would run away from the past and responsibilities.

"Even if I and that silly cat were combined, we wouldn't be as smart as you. Let's get straight to the conclusion."

The silly cat glared at Annan.

The Skeleton King's soul fire flickered slightly: "The princess... perhaps she was never awake from the beginning, and what we see is just an outsider occupying her body."

Annan felt as if someone had grabbed his chest, making it hard for him to breathe.

Fate has once again abandoned this girl who sacrificed herself to protect the world.

He asked unwillingly, "Didn't we confirm that the princess's body does indeed contain a newly born soul?"

"So I never doubted it. That soul was extremely weak; if it weren't for the radiation from the temple fragments, we might not have even discovered it."

"Fragments of the temple..."

Annan suddenly seemed to have thought of something. "Do you remember that divine abomination? Its divinity was taken away by Highlord Raymond. Could it be that the divine abomination didn't die completely, but instead attached itself to the temple fragments, and was then possessed by it because the princess came into contact with the fragments?"

The Skeleton King's soul flame flickered, as if he were taking a deep breath: "Very likely."

The silly cat couldn't understand what they were saying and only felt excluded.

Rose's voice echoed in his mind: "Annan has obtained the divinity of the abomination. He now suspects that the abomination is not dead and has possessed the princess with the help of the temple fragments."

"Annan has divinity?!"

"You do not know?"

The silly cat stammered, "I...of course I know! It's just that he never told me." No wonder it felt close to Anan. At first, it thought Anan was using his evil charm on it, but it turned out that divinity was attracting it?
On the other side, Annan took a deep breath.

The best outcome is that the princess's old body is reborn with a new soul; the worst outcome is what's happening now... the one possessing the princess's body is an outsider.

If it simply wants a peaceful life, that's fine, but if it has ulterior motives... Annan has no choice but to be wary.

"Can we expel it from the princess's body?"

The Skeleton King first affirmed, "Yes, the connection between that soul and body isn't deep enough yet. But you must be prepared that even if it's banished, the true princess's soul won't return."

At that time, the princess will once again become an empty shell, a walking corpse.

If the princess were still alive, Annam could almost imagine what she would say.

"If it can use my body to do good, then I'll entrust that useless body to it." That must be the thought.

The princess was selfless; Annam could not do that. His love could only be shared with those around him and with things he cared about, not with all of humanity.

Annan pleaded with the silly cat: "Great cat and midnight maiden, you must help the princess!"

"Ah I?"

The silly cat looked up in confusion. It came to Free City to get ahead, enjoy life, and become a god among gods. Why did it have endless things to do on its very first day?

He felt a sense of déjà vu—it was as if that black dragon had been manipulated in the palm of his hand.

"You must have a way to awaken the real princess, right?"

"Although gods are omnipotent and can resurrect the dead, they don't even have souls, so how can they be resurrected..."

“Tell him you have a way,” Rose’s voice rang out.

“You have a way.”

"what?"

The confusion shifted to Annan's face, and the silly cat coughed a few times: "Ahem, I mean... I have a way."

“I knew you’d have a way!” Annan asked eagerly. “What way?”

Rose said to the silly cat, "The princess has only a body, and the abomination only has a soul. Help the abomination control the princess's body, and when it has complete control, clear its will. In this way, you will have a blank soul that is completely in harmony with the princess."

The silly cat repeated Rose's words in their entirety.

"As expected of a god." The Skeleton King's soul fire surged as he echoed, "In that case, as long as we unseal the memories again, the real princess will return."

"Just some little tricks," the silly cat said elegantly and modestly, taking all the credit for himself.

"Then do it!"

Annan finalized his plan. He couldn't accept the princess becoming a walking corpse again, nor could he accept her being possessed by a divine abomination. Therefore, he would allow a new princess to be born!
The Skeleton King has many potions that nourish the soul. Previously, Annan didn't want the princess to have a "complete childhood," but since she's not a princess, there's no need to be so gentle.

The plan must be kept strictly confidential. Annan and the Skeleton King certainly won't go around telling everyone, and the silly cat... probably won't be a blabbermouth either, right?

……

Later that evening, after their private conversation, Annan left the mage tower and led the silly cat to their last destination—the city lord's mansion garden.

Liberty City has many secrets unknown to outsiders, and the Otherworld Tree is the biggest of them all.

Arriving at the Tree of Another World, and listening to Annan explain its origins, the silly cat finally realized just how ambitious Annan was—or how much trouble he could cause.
