Upon entering the house, Zhang Feng immediately changed out of his blood-stained jacket and sneakers. He hid the jacket in the trunk of his car and put the sneakers in a corner of the wardrobe—he thought that as long as he washed off the blood and hid the blood-stained clothes and shoes, no one would find out. Then, he smashed the cell phone, ID card, wallet, and other items he had taken from Tian Xuewen with a stone, put them in a plastic bag, and under the cover of night, quietly ran to a barren slope outside the village and threw them into the weeds, completely destroying the evidence.

After doing all this, Zhang Feng finally breathed a sigh of relief, but he was still terrified and couldn't sleep all night. The image of him murdering Tian Xuewen, and Tian Xuewen's terrified eyes before his death, kept replaying in his mind. He knew the police would find him sooner or later, so for the next few days, he hid at home, afraid to go out or answer anyone's calls. He didn't even tell his sister, Zhang Mei, the truth. It wasn't until the police began searching Zhangjiagang Village that Zhang Feng completely panicked. He knew he could no longer hide, so he secretly ran to his sister Zhang Mei's house and hid, hoping to evade the police.

However, justice prevails. Zhang Feng thought he had done everything perfectly and hidden himself very well, but he didn't know that he had left behind too many traces and physical evidence during the crime: the footprints of a size 42 men's sneaker at the scene, hair and clothing fibers from an unknown man, a single-edged dagger and bloodstains in the car, sneakers with mud from the crime scene in the wardrobe, records of his purchase of the dagger, testimonies from neighbors who saw him out and about unusually on the night of the crime, and the testimony of his sister Zhang Mei. These pieces of evidence, when strung together, formed a complete chain of evidence, firmly establishing his criminal acts.

In the interrogation room, Zhang Feng truthfully confessed to all the facts of his crime of murdering Tian Xuewen without any concealment. He admitted his crimes without reservation, and while confessing, he wept bitterly and repeatedly repented, saying that he was confused for a moment and blinded by anger, which led him to commit such an unforgivable crime. He said he was sorry to Tian Xuewen's family and also to his own family. He was very regretful, but it was all too late.

Meanwhile, the laboratory test results were all in: the black male hair extracted from under the passenger seat of the car was confirmed to be Zhang Feng's after DNA comparison; the clothing fibers extracted from the trunk of the car were completely consistent with the fibers extracted from the crime scene; the size 42 black men's sneakers found in the wardrobe had a sole pattern that perfectly matched the murderer's footprints extracted from the scene, and the soil on the soles was from the same source as the soil at the crime scene; the dark red stains on the blade of the single-edged dagger were confirmed to be the bloodstains of the deceased Tian Xuewen after DNA comparison, and the blurry fingerprints on the handle were confirmed to be Zhang Feng's fingerprints after comparison; the bloodstains in the corner of the bedroom wall of Zhang Feng's sister's house were confirmed to be Zhang Feng's, and completely matched Tian Xuewen's confession that he scratched his arm; the mobile phone, ID card, and other items found in the weeds on the barren slope were confirmed to be Tian Xuewen's.

All the evidence was completely consistent with Zhang Feng's confession, without any contradiction, thoroughly proving that Zhang Feng intentionally murdered Tian Xuewen. Thus, the Qinjiagou farmland body dumping case was successfully solved, and the murderer Zhang Feng was apprehended according to law. He will face the most severe punishment under the law.

After the case was solved, Lu Chuan led the members of the Criminal Investigation Detachment to inform Tian Xuewen's family and the villagers of Zhangjiagang Village of the results. Upon hearing the news of the case being solved and the murderer being apprehended, Tian Xuewen's family was devastated but also somewhat comforted. They expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Lu Chuan and the members of the Criminal Investigation Detachment for their swift resolution of the case and for bringing justice to Tian Xuewen.

The villagers of Zhangjiagang Village were shocked and outraged upon learning that Zhang Feng was the murderer of Tian Xuewen. They condemned Zhang Feng's cruel act and expressed their regret over Tian Xuewen's death. The villagers said that during his eight years in office, Tian Xuewen had worked diligently and wholeheartedly for the village's development, doing practical and beneficial things for the villagers, such as building roads, constructing water conservancy projects, and introducing new crop varieties, leading the villagers to increase their income and become wealthy. He was a good Party Secretary. Zhang Feng, driven by personal greed, murdered Tian Xuewen, a truly heinous crime.

Looking at the grief-stricken expressions of Tian Xuewen's family and the villagers' regretful gazes, Lu Chuan felt a heavy weight in his heart. He knew that this case stemmed from an unnecessary conflict. Zhang Feng, in a moment of impulsiveness and selfishness, not only took Tian Xuewen's life and destroyed Tian Xuewen's family, but also his own, paying a heavy price. This case also serves as a warning to everyone: when encountering conflicts and disputes, one must remain calm, learn to communicate and be tolerant, and never let anger cloud judgment and lead to extreme actions. Otherwise, one will not only harm others but also oneself, and ultimately, will be punished by law.

Subsequently, the members of the Criminal Investigation Detachment organized and archived all relevant materials, including trace evidence, interrogation records, and forensic reports, and transferred the case to the procuratorate for review and prosecution. Zhang Feng was arrested on suspicion of intentional homicide. He will face a fair trial and pay the price for his cruel actions. The Qinjiagou farmland corpse dumping case has come to a satisfactory conclusion with the arrest of the murderer. Justice has not been delayed, and the deceased can rest in peace.

Less than a week after the Tian Xuewen murder case was closed, the Criminal Investigation Detachment received a report that a body had been found in a cave in Zhangjiagou.

Zhangjiagou is nestled among the folds of mountains, a tiny village so small that it takes several zooms to see it clearly on a map. The village relies on the mountains for its livelihood, with generations of villagers making a living through farming, herding, and gathering mountain produce. Due to its isolated location, it's rarely visited by outsiders, except for locals. Most of the cave dwellings in the village were left by the older generation; some are still inhabited, while others have long been abandoned, used as woodsheds or livestock sheds, or simply left to rot away, slowly swallowed by weeds and shrubs, becoming a secluded corner of the village.

On the day of the incident, just as dawn was breaking, villager Zhang Baolu led his twenty-odd goats out. The grass in the mountains was tender, and the goats loved to eat it; he would go deeper into the mountains every day to ensure his flock grazed well. Zhang Baolu was in his early fifties, with dark skin, rough hands, and a face etched with the marks of wind and sun; he was an honest and hardworking farmer. He was a man of few words, reliable in his work, and well-liked in the village. Besides herding his livestock, he farmed at home and rarely made enemies. (End of Chapter)
