Net King Whale Fall
Chapter 668 Just Taking a Break
Sanada Rin sat in the classroom, seemingly listening attentively and taking notes, but her pen tip hovered in the air, and there wasn't even a scratch on her book.
Give me some time.
That sentence popped into my mind again: Did their conversation that day end on a sour note?
In the end, Atobe Keigo managed to force himself to take her back to her apartment near the school. Refusing was useless, and they kept in touch by phone afterward, once a day.
At this point, Keigo Atobe should have landed in the UK.
Sanada Rin didn't know how to describe the ups and downs of her emotions during this period, but she had eyes, and she could see and feel Atobe Keigo's pain.
Give me some time. Don't blame Sanada Rei for making connections. She has used this phrase many times before. She knows very well the context in which she said it and what she was really thinking.
To be honest, from the moment Sanada Rin agreed to Atobe Keigo's request, she didn't really think about breaking up.
But in this situation, time, calm, long-distance relationship, all sorts of potential pitfalls have come together. Sanada Rei has never experienced this before, but she knows quite a bit about it, whether intentionally or unintentionally, from the TV series.
With a hiss, Sanada Rei's pen unconsciously made a stroke, leaving a deep mark on the paper.
Ugh, what an unpleasant guess.
Sanada Rin didn't offer any opinion on what Atobe Keigo said, perhaps because she didn't know how to resolve the issue, and it was better for both of them to calm down.
Sanada Rin attended classes steadily, while Oshitari Yuushi somehow found out about Sanada Rin's class schedule and managed to bump into her several times.
Sanada Rei tilted her head. "Is there something you want to say?"
Yuushi Oshitari coughed lightly. Although Sanada Rin used a question politely, he saw the next message in Sanada Rin's eyes: say what you have to say and don't waste time.
Yuushi Oshitari carefully chose his words, "Atobe has been abroad for a few days now, and I wonder how his health is."
"He wasn't feeling well when he left. He had a lot of studies over there, and I don't know if he took good care of himself."
Sanada Rei remained silent.
Good question, she wants to know too.
"It's a bit too dry to just stand here and talk," Yuushi Oshitari glanced at the time. "If it's not too much trouble, Sanada-san, do you have time to grab a cup of coffee?"
There are coffee shops on campus, but they are almost always full, mostly with young couples, so it's not appropriate for them to go there.
Yuushi Oshitari chose a place with good privacy, one he had been to before.
Between Sanada Rin and Oshitari Yuushi, there's not much to say except for Atobe Keigo. Although they've known each other since middle school, they've never been in contact or close friends.
"Why did you specifically invite me out? What do you want to know?"
Yuushi Oshitari thanked the waiter and turned his gaze to Rei Sanada. From his personal perspective, Rei Sanada was beautiful, but as beautiful as she was, she was far too dangerous, someone Yuushi Oshitari would absolutely keep his distance from.
If he hadn't been so naive back in middle school, wanting to see Atobe Keigo make a fool of himself, he wouldn't have been so eager to learn about most of what happened between them.
After thinking for a long time, Yuushi Oshitari asked, "Is Sanada-san serious? About Keigo, about your relationship?"
"Logically speaking, as an outsider, I really shouldn't interfere in your relationship issues."
"But Keigo wasn't there. He had been ill ever since he returned from Hokkaido, and his spirits were low. He didn't allow anyone to see him off when he passed away."
"As his friend, without being offensive, may I know what happened on his last night in Hokkaido?"
Sanada Rei asked with some curiosity, "Why would you ask that?"
"You think I'm not serious?"
Atobe Keigo is suspicious; he doesn't even trust his friends. Sanada Rin is really strange. Why?
Yuushi Oshitari carefully recalled their interactions, "You probably felt that Atobe was someone you could do without."
Sanada Rin doesn't quite remember what was said after that, but that one sentence is enough.
No wonder.
That evening, Sanada Rei didn't want to stay home anymore, so she wandered around aimlessly and ended up at the beach.
I didn't mean anything by it, I was just feeling a bit stuffy, so getting some fresh air was nice.
Ah Da stayed close by; if he dared to leave the beach even for a moment, he'd just plunge into the sea. It wasn't too late; a few young people were playing on the beach. Sanada Rin and the others found a quiet corner.
All she wanted right now was some peace and quiet.
As time ticked by, Ah Dao said, "It's getting colder and colder. How about we go back first?"
In early spring, the chill of winter still lingers in the wind, especially by the sea, where the wind howls and stings the face.
Sanada Rin casually replied, "I'll go back in a little while."
Ah Da gasped, "Hiss, how long is 'a while'?"
The sudden ringing of the telephone interrupted Sanada Rei's reverie. "Hello?"
Shinichi Kudo found it strange; nothing had happened recently. "Why aren't you resting at home in the middle of the night? What are you doing at the beach?"
Sanada Rei glanced at her phone. "It's not even eleven o'clock yet."
Shinichi Kudo scoffed; he had eyes and could tell time for himself.
"Just trying to relax."
What else could she have wanted to do? It was too stuffy inside, so she came out for a walk.
Shinichi Kudo sensed something was amiss. "Has anything happened on your end?"
Sanada Rei's gaze fell on the waves. "Not yet."
Shinichi Kudo raised an eyebrow. Not yet? Then something is happening or about to happen.
Sanada Rei added, "It's a personal matter, you don't need to worry about it."
"Ah Da, you can sleep soundly with me. Bye."
After the call was disconnected, Shinichi Kudo had a somewhat strange expression, resting the corner of his phone against his chin. "Private matter, huh?"
If we're talking about recent events, does that trip to Hokkaido count?
Judging from this, it seems these two have had a falling out? That's quite strange.
That guy's mental fortitude isn't that low.
Sanada Rei didn't stay at the beach for long before heading back. It was annoying that A-Da was constantly typing and chatting on his phone. As for A-Da sending messages, Sanada Rei refused to know.
Sanada Rin has been in a bad mood lately and nothing interests her except arresting people and sentencing them.
But there are always those blind and brainless fools who insist on squeezing in front of Sanada Rei to cause trouble; they didn't even arrive this timely after being reincarnated.
Hamaguchi, really. Sanada Rin gets annoyed just seeing that surname. If it weren't for them, none of what happened later would have occurred.
Sanada Rei immediately focused all her attention on the Hamaguchi family. She was only contributing to the police's anti-gang operation and had absolutely no intention of taking her anger out on them.
However, even a rabbit will bite when cornered. Sanada Rin was too ruthless, showing no respect to anyone, and even got some people to risk their own lives to drag Sanada Rin down.
Sanada Rin was on guard when she went out, but she did not expect that the other party would be so bold as to send out snipers in broad daylight and commit a crime in the street.
The bullet struck the tempered glass, and in the instant the glass shattered into a spiderweb, screams erupted, and the peaceful street instantly descended into chaos.
Ah-Da looked wary and shielded Sanada Rin with his arms. "I've notified the department head and the others. They'll be there in ten minutes at the latest. Hang in there."
"They're in the shadows, we're the targets, so we need to hide."
The sniper understood that time was of the essence; not a single second could be wasted. If a large police force arrived, all their efforts would be in vain.
Since we're risking our lives, we must get results; we can't lose everything. We must at least take one person with us.
Ah Da calculated a position to counterattack, but going there would expose him to bullets. "Alice, listen to me, it's dangerous now. Don't be impulsive. This is a blind spot. Right here, wait for me for a minute."
Sanada Rei understood that she didn't necessarily want to die. (End of Chapter)
