Police officer Chen Shu

Chapter 129 The Competition Begins

Chapter 129 The Competition Begins

Noon, Dongzhou Public Security Bureau, small canteen
Chen Shu, Chen Chuan, and Cheng Mian were having lunch at a small round table by the window in the small canteen.

Since the municipal bureau abolished the property management company that outsourced the canteen, the canteen has been managed by police officers who were originally from the border defense troops' cooking squad.

There are far fewer service staff greeting you with "hello" and "please have your meal" in the cafeteria, but the quality of the food and the cleanliness of the cafeteria have improved significantly.

Police officers working at the municipal bureau prefer to eat in the canteen, and some even invite their families to eat there during dinner time. It's convenient, inexpensive, and most importantly, the food is indeed better and more hygienic than eating out.

After the three sat down, Chen Chuan stared at Chen Shu for a long time. After Cheng Mian deliberately interrupted, Chen Chuan, whose background and connections went all the way to the provincial department, smiled knowingly.

"Promoted to 'Deputy Section Chief'? So you still value deputy section chief? I thought you no longer cared about rank and were only focused on serving the people."

Upon hearing Chen Chuan's words, Cheng Mian was even more confused. He completely failed to understand what Chen Shu, who had come to the Municipal Bureau specifically to seek his advice, meant.

Chen Shu smiled and waved his hand, knowing that Chen Chuan must have found out about Director Lin Dakai from the Provincial Police Academy coming to transfer him to the school.

Seeing that he was still unwilling to talk about it, Chen Chuan deliberately teased again, "Back in the Criminal Investigation Detachment meeting room, I wonder who was pretending to be confused in front of me? What, are you going to continue pretending today?"

Director Lin of the Donghai Provincial Police Academy made a special trip to Dongzhou City, ostensibly to investigate the Lamborghini kidnapping case, but in reality, he planned to meet Chen Shu, the man who had been arrested, and then take him back to the province.

At that time, the Municipal Public Security Bureau arranged an exchange meeting in the conference room of the Criminal Investigation Detachment. Chen Chuan, who attended the meeting, privately told Chen Shu the real reason why Director Lin had come. Unexpectedly, the person he was looking for was right in front of him, Chen Shu, who was pretending to be oblivious!

He was angry!

You kept such a big thing from him!
This is a clear indication that they don't treat him like a brother!

He was whispering to him with a mysterious look on his face.

Unexpectedly, the protagonist was standing right next to him.

Shame on you!
What a shame!

We must get our revenge today!

Seeing Chen Chuan's ever-changing expression, Chen Shu knew he hadn't done his job properly. He quickly picked up the teacup containing cola and said with a smile:
"Well, things didn't work out in the end, so I didn't inform you. I'll offer you tea instead of wine today as an apology. Young Master Chen, please be magnanimous and forgive me."

Chen Chuan replied irritably, "The deal didn't work out? How dare you even say that?"

Sitting to the side, Cheng Mian was completely bewildered from beginning to end: "Hey, can you two stop with the riddles? What's going on?"

Chen Chuan nodded and said simply, "Last month, people from the province came to transfer him to the provincial police academy, but he refused."

Upon hearing this, Cheng Mian felt as if he had been struck by lightning: "What? Transfer Chen Shu to the provincial capital? Say it again, I don't understand!"

Chen Chuan shrugged and ignored him.

Cheng Mian stiffened his head and slowly turned it towards Chen Shu: "Are you being transferred to the provincial capital?"

Chen Chuan then casually uttered a sentence from behind Cheng Mian: "Three years as a deputy section chief in the province?"

Cheng Mian spoke haltingly: "Then what are you still doing sitting here?"

Chen Shu scratched his head and grinned awkwardly, unable to say anything.

On the day of the interview
Outside the conference room on the sixth floor of the Zhengming District Public Security Bureau in Dongzhou City, Chen Shu originally thought that he would not be intimidated after experiencing many trials and tribulations. However, when he actually stood on the scene, although it was not his turn yet, he was very nervous.

His written test score is currently ranked third. Just as Cheng Mian said, once you memorize all the leaders' speeches, you'll basically be able to answer the questions on the test paper.

But they trusted him too much, saying that grassroots police officers rely on their words to make a living, and that these are all things that have been accumulated over time, not things that can be achieved by cramming at the last minute.

When Chen Shu listened to Cheng Mian's eloquent speech, he also felt that it made sense, so he didn't prepare any special materials for the interview or speech.

But now, standing in the corridor outside the conference room, all the police officers were looking down at the cheat sheets in their hands, their mouths opening and closing. In contrast, Chen Shu, with his hands empty, looked somewhat out of place.

There were five deputy section chief positions available this time. I ranked third in the written exam, and Zeng Hong patted his chest as Chen Shu stood at the stairwell, lost in thought.

"Police officer Chen Shu from Zhongshan Police Station!"

A female police officer came into the corridor and called out.

Ok?
First place?
Good, it's better to finish early and get back to the station. Staying in this branch office building is not as comfortable as staying in my own station.

Chen Shu straightened his police uniform and strode into the conference room with what he considered to be brisk steps.

The meeting room was rectangular in shape. On the left was the audience seating area, where about ten heads or deputy heads of the main units of the branch were seated. On the right was a large platform, with a small podium placed at the back of the platform.

After entering the room, Chen Shujin paused, his years of investigative experience making him stand at the door and observe the layout of the entire conference room. Then he looked at each of the leaders sitting in the front row one by one.

As my gaze swept across the area, I saw familiar faces such as Executive Deputy Director Zhang, Criminal Investigation Captain Ren Guoqing, as well as some other people I had met before, including the head of the Legal Affairs Captain and the office director.

They sat upright, their expressions serious.

"Officer Chen, it's time to come up on stage. Today's exam questions are covered up on the podium," the female officer standing to the side gently reminded him.

Chen Shu shrugged apologetically, but halfway through, he suddenly remembered that about a dozen leaders from the branch office were sitting below the stage staring at him!

Embarrassed, he quickly walked a few steps to the small podium, stood in front of it, and saluted.

I looked down and flipped open the cardboard cover, where I saw three questions listed.

The first question is:
Having served in the police force for many years, what are your reflections now? And what allows you to continue on this arduous path as always?

Chen Shu narrowed his eyes, as if the examination room and examiners had disappeared at this moment.

All he had were the many people and events he had encountered over the years, scenes flashing through his mind like a slideshow: the arrogance and recklessness of criminal suspects, the weeping of victims, and, more often, the joys and sorrows of ordinary people.

Having experienced all walks of life, Chen Shu's final image is a snapshot of the most ordinary scene from his daily work and life:
Early in the morning, he stood in front of the police uniform mirror at the entrance of the Zhongshan Police Station, looking at his smiling self in the mirror, and carefully tidied his uniform.

"My name is Chen Shu."

Chen Shu smiled and began to speak. Looking at the row of old policemen and comrades sitting in front of him, he felt relaxed because he knew that they were all on the same path.

"I volunteer to join the People's Police of the People's Republic of China"
