Police officer Chen Shu
Chapter 559: Late Justice
Chapter 559: Late Justice
"But justice delayed is justice denied."
After reading the entire case file, Chen Shu sighed deeply: "Hey, Julie. Does your Criminal Investigation Department still use torture to close cases these days?"
"I'm not too clear about this. But it probably happened. I saw Wen Zhao asking Ren Dabo to put him under house arrest a while ago. I guess he injured someone and couldn't get him in, so he's keeping him in a hotel to recover."
"This kind of thing not only brings no benefit but also incurs responsibility. The person who does it is either malicious or a fool. I don't think Wen Zhao is that kind of person."
"Well, who knows."
After a moment of silence, Julie's voice rang out again: "But I've heard my old man mention that it's best not to cause trouble easily. If you get into trouble and end up in jail, it's hard to get out safely. If you get out safely, it means the investigators will have to go in, and even if they don't, their political future is basically ruined. If it involves a whole bunch of other people, it'll be even harder. Anyone with eyes can weigh the pros and cons and know which is more important."
Chen Shu stroked his chin and slowly closed the file on the case of the floating corpse revenge.
Perhaps it was fate, or perhaps it was the gentle breeze blowing in as the door opened, that scattered the few pages of A4 paper tucked among the files, causing them to fall to the ground.
Chen Shu looked down and saw a copy of Zhao Zhiguo's acquittal verdict from last year, as well as an early promotional report about Nie Chaofan as a "super detective."
He casually picked it up and stuffed it back into the file. Chen Shu felt a mix of emotions. He looked up and saw Zhu Li, who had changed into casual clothes, walking out of the room and leaning against the side. Her smile was just like the rising sun in the morning, gentle and heartwarming.
"Chen Shu, how about we go have lunch together? Let's go to that Franchise restaurant again."
With panda eyes, Chen Shu seemed to suddenly remember something and exclaimed, "Luckily, I mentioned this restaurant. When I was carrying the body yesterday, I casually put the tomahawk steak that I had packed in the refrigerator next to the freezer. I'll go get it now."
As he spoke, he gave a thumbs-up towards the morgue and said confidently, "Don't worry, I won't put it in the freezer. I know there are corpses stored in there."
Julie froze on the spot, her pretty oval face frozen as if carved in stone. She seemed to hear something inside her collapsing, rumbling and disintegrating.
She swallowed hard, and finally said, "Chen Shu, I know you put the food in the refrigerator to prevent it from spoiling, but do you know what's in the refrigerator?"
Chen Shu was taken aback, recalling the details of opening the refrigerator and putting in the steak last night, and slowly said, "Isn't the refrigerator just for storing food? When I opened the refrigerator, I glanced at it and remembered that there were a lot of vegetables inside, some pork or beef, and some pork liver."
"Didn't your Criminal Investigation Department put it in there for food? That makes sense, you're all here to work overtime, you don't have time to cook. It must have been put in by the funeral home staff, I saw there were some iced drinks in there too."
As Chen Shu spoke, his voice grew softer, as if he had imagined a terrible outcome.
Julie rubbed her forehead and sighed, "Even if it's a funeral home worker, shouldn't it be placed in the morgue? Does such a large organization not have a canteen?"
"What's in the refrigerator?"
"stop!"
Chen Shu immediately interrupted, putting on his coat and walking out: "Let's go, forget the steak, let's go to the Western restaurant now."
Chen Shu drove his beloved black Golf GTR straight to the usual spot.
Not long after I sat down, the restaurant owner, a foreigner with a shiny bald head, came over with a smile.
Those two scoundrels had barely eaten a few bites before rushing off, leaving the expensive dishes, which were practically intact on the table, to be sold to the waiters, making a huge profit for them.
"What would you two like to eat?"
In this restaurant, the owner is only responsible for delivering the expensive dishes. He is the last person in charge of the kitchen and also the one who can get the most direct feedback from the customers.
Normally, he wouldn't help with ordering, but seeing these two important people, he couldn't resist showing his face and taking a closer look at these two scoundrels.
Chen Shu glanced at Zhu Li, who raised her willow-leaf-shaped eyebrows and pouted her cherry-like lips slightly at the boss, indicating that Chen Shu would take the order this time.
Chen Shu waved his hand and said decisively, "First, give me a tomahawk steak, well-done! Then give me..."
"Hmm, one more... Hmm... Let me think."
"Sir?" The restaurant owner finished taking notes and waited for a long time with his pen in hand, but still didn't hear anything more. He looked up suspiciously.
Despite sporting two enormous dark circles under his eyes, the handsome man leaned his hands on the table, his gaze intently sweeping over the woman opposite him.
What a beautiful Eastern woman! I must show off my skills in front of her later. The restaurant owner admired her in his heart, and couldn't help but feel the primal instinct of a creature of nature to display his masculine charm in front of other women.
Julie slowly took a sip of lemonade, flipping through the only recipe on the table while secretly enjoying herself.
It's unbelievable that Officer Chen, who is so capable and efficient when handling cases, could be so embarrassed. Zhu Li smiled and looked up at Chen Shu, whose face was flushed, without saying a word. In the end, she pushed the menu on the table over to him.
After receiving the menu, Chen Shu calmed himself down and recalled the flavors Julie had ordered when he last visited the restaurant. He quickly ordered all the dishes.
After the owner left, Chen Shu laughed and said, "You have to laugh at me just to order some food."
Julie's oval face lit up with a sweet smile, her bright eyes brimming with the charm of a mature woman. The two sat facing each other, eating and chatting, occasionally letting out bursts of pleasant laughter, as dishes were served one after another.
This warm and peaceful atmosphere brings two hearts closer together.
The last course was tomahawk steak. This time, the owner pushed a cart with a plate of tomahawk steak through the lobby and came to Julie's table, bowing politely in greeting.
Customers at other seats stopped eating, knowing that the restaurant owner would personally grill a steak.
"These two must be the boss's friends."
"I don't think so. The owner is a foreigner. I heard that he has devoted himself to this shop since he opened it, and he hasn't wasted any time on socializing."
"It must have cost a fortune, money that even foreigners couldn't refuse."
"Although tomahawk steak is a bit pricey, it's still an affordable option, but it's rare to have the owner personally prepare it."
The surrounding customers were talking amongst themselves, and then they turned their envious gazes to the food truck.
Julie, a regular customer at the restaurant, naturally knew all this. At this moment, she looked tenderly at the man sitting opposite her, thinking to herself that this straight man had finally come to his senses and knew that he should prepare some romantic activities for the date. It was really thoughtful of him to have the foreign owner cook for him personally.
However, unaware of anything, Chen Shu, who had stumbled upon this by accident, frowned and remained silent, seemingly still complaining that the foreigners hadn't done a good enough job.
Julie was delighted by his picky attitude towards gifts, which showed that he cared about her.
"Hello, ma'am. How well-done would you like it?" the owner asked, bowing slightly.
Julie hesitated for a moment, but ultimately couldn't bring herself to say it: "You'll have to ask my friend."
"Fully cooked," Chen Shu nodded decisively.
"OK."
The sizzling sound of the spatula in the owner's hand rolling on the frying pan.
He skillfully seared the steak until it was golden brown, forming a crispy crust on the surface while the inside remained tender. As the steak was flipped, sparks flew from the oil in the pan, releasing a wave of heat mixed with the aroma of meat.
The performance ended shortly afterward.
The owner placed the pan-fried patties on two plates, sprinkled them with black pepper and sea salt, and served them with a reddish-brown tomato sauce and some fresh vegetables. The whole plate looked very tempting.
"Hello, here is your steak." The owner gently placed the decorated plates in front of Julie and Chen Shu, bowed, and left.
Julie's lips involuntarily curled upwards.
She nodded and reached out her slender, fair right hand to take the knife and fork from the plate.
For some reason, as Chen Shu sat opposite her, staring at Zhu Li's hands, a scene suddenly flashed through his mind: her lying on a corpse in the dissection room, holding a gleaming scalpel, sweating profusely as she worked.
On a whim, Chen Shu blurted out, "I hope we don't get another call to the police today?"
"Huh?" Julie froze for a moment, then relaxed. "How could that be? The area here is very safe now; we don't have a single murder case for months. Let's eat first; I've been waiting for this steak for days."
As soon as the words left his mouth, Chen Shu realized he had been overly sensitive. He chuckled self-deprecatingly and picked up his knife and fork as well.
"Jingle Bell!"
"Jingle Bell!"
whispering sound!
That damn jinx!
"Ahem." Chen Shu coughed twice, gesturing for Zhu Li to answer the phone first.
"Don't be so nervous, it might not be a case." Julie covered her mouth and chuckled softly, then took out her phone from her handbag.
"."
"Okay, I'll be right there!"
After hanging up the phone, Julie's expression turned serious: "A headless male corpse was found in a rented apartment. It's a murder case!"
Standing frozen on the other side, Chen Shu wished he could slap himself for his jinxed mouth.
Hey, this tomahawk steak is really expensive!
