Chapter 2113 Foundation of Character

Chapter 2113 Foundation of Character
The Bian family of four has always lived a rather humble life. Since they can remember, they have never felt that their parents' company has been responsible for them in any way. Their parents were very dedicated to their work, at least in their respective fields, and they were never criticized by their superiors. None of their colleagues dared to look down on them.

My dad is alright; he still has some affection for the company. He can't treat the factory like his home. Occasionally, if he's asked to do some volunteer work or work overtime without pay, he can accept it. But beyond that, it's difficult to get him to put in any more effort. My dad doesn't bring up money; he just smiles and politely declines.

My mom is quite individualistic; she has almost no interest in responsibilities outside of work. She's always dismissive of things like voluntarily working overtime or taking company matters as her own, which makes her somewhat passive.

For years, no one in the Bian family has ever taken the initiative to do anything extra for anyone, nor has anyone ever thought about the Bian family's needs, such as reminding their mother to get a house with full property rights.

Nowadays, Bian Mu's life situation has changed drastically. He now shoulders a heavy social responsibility that is substantial, numerous, and of high quality, and it is getting heavier every day!
Gradually, Bian Mu realized that whether a man is qualified largely depends on how many people he can bear the responsibility for in his lifetime!
This is a unique psychological experience I've never had before in my hometown, Lishi County!

Ever since those thoughts started flashing through Bian Mu's mind from time to time, he has become more composed, mature, and even a bit shrewd. It's a strange feeling, a bit like... yes! It's a bit like leveling up and fighting monsters in an online game! Anyway, he feels like he has more and more of a sense of identity, and his words and actions carry more weight.

Yes! It's got weight to it now!

Recently, Bian Mu's understanding in this area seems to have improved further. A faint sense of "character" has gradually emerged in his mind. This sense is not something he learned from books, nor from watching videos, nor from any professor who taught him. In fact, he has never seen a similar scene or line in any of the movies or TV shows he has ever watched.

It's a distillation of my new life, a kind of epiphany!

As the night grew quiet, Bian Mu began to reflect on her parents. Despite their affection, she still felt that they lived too ordinary a life, especially her father, who was such a kind-hearted man! He didn't seem to have any sense of importance or status when dealing with people or things, and he did live a somewhat humble life.

My mom has a tough temper, at least. She probably practiced traditional martial arts with my grandpa for a few years when she was young. Anyway, when she chased Bian Mu around the streets and beat him up, her speed, strength, and accuracy were unmatched by most parents. Neighbors, colleagues, relatives, and friends—generally, no one made her angry. She dared to say what others wouldn't; she could argue with people who were unwilling or afraid to confront her directly. At least, my mom has lived most of her life according to her own nature, and in the Bian family, she definitely carries a lot of weight!

but……

My parents, and even my beloved maternal grandfather, never had anything to do with the word "refined" or "impressive" throughout their lives.

Perhaps, Bian Mu is what they call the kind of person in his hometown dialect... who has finally "made something of himself"!

If a person wants to achieve something, they definitely need to have some charisma.

Dean Chen Yurong seems to have done a poor job in this regard! Mr. Cheng Haili is probably even worse than her, otherwise he wouldn't have made such rash and excessive remarks.

Recognizing this, Bian Mu naturally used the "Jade Dragonfly Touching the Pool" technique when taking Cheng Haili's pulse.

Perhaps somewhat intimidated by Bian Mu's great reputation, he sat there obediently, his eyes, posture, and even the tone of his breath... completely lacking the air of an associate dean, full professor, or renowned expert.

As he continued, Bian Mu chuckled inwardly. "The old gentleman's usual air of authority in front of others is basically baseless. At least, it doesn't seem to have any real substance. It's mostly just for show, a facade of power that's all he has. It's all just for show! Interestingly, his condition of hot feet is actually directly related to his lack of inner strength. It's a good thing you scoff at traditional Chinese medicine and know almost nothing about its concepts. Otherwise, wouldn't he be ashamed for years after learning the truth about his condition?! Hahaha..." Thinking of this, Bian Mu almost burst out laughing.

"Do you usually participate in any physical exercise? I mean the kind that you stick to long-term, like Tai Chi, running, badminton... anything counts!" After taking his pulse, Bian Mu asked these questions.

"Does playing cards or chess count?" Cheng Haili asked, slightly taken aback.

Bian Mu gently shook his head and remained silent.

"Walking... I take a walk after meals, and I can walk about 1 steps a day. Sometimes... if I walk too much, my knees feel a little weak. I usually keep it to around 8000 steps."

Bian Mu shook his head gently again, but still didn't say anything.

"That's all... I love reading, I've always been like that since I was little, once I pick up a book I can't put it down... I don't like to move around..."

"You usually get picked up and dropped off by a private car when you go to the hospital or medical university, right?" Bian Mu suddenly asked.

"Oh...you still recognized me after all...that's right, I've gotten used to being picked up and dropped off, and I've become a bit lazy, but thankfully, I haven't gotten a big belly yet...hehe..." Cheng Haili's mental fortitude was quite strong. He easily defused what was originally an awkward situation by making fun of himself. He didn't lose face at all, and even put on a bit of airs.

"You are a renowned doctor! You know people everywhere you go. I was rude! Please forgive me. Out of 365 days a year, how much of the time do you spend eating at home?"

"Well... my blood sugar is normal. Some young people in the hospital are not as good as me!" When he said this, Cheng Haili had a hint of self-justification in his words. The old man was quite shrewd and intentionally or unintentionally avoided the fact that he rarely ate at home.

With a smile, Bian Mu gave him face and didn't press the matter further. In fact, asking or not asking made no difference. The pulse was like a painting, and everything could be clearly determined with a single touch. Moreover, Bian Mu had no ulterior motives whatsoever; it was simply a normal investigation into his daily dietary habits.

Unfortunately, Mr. Cheng was rather sensitive, and he began to dodge the question, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

"We need your cooperation. We need to do a physical fitness test, similar to a gymnastics demonstration. Is this a convenient time for you?" As she spoke, Bian Mu got up and rushed over to accompany the young man, giving him a wink.

The man reacted very quickly, smiling politely at Bian Mu and whispering a few words to the woman next to him. The woman was also quick-witted, nodding slightly and smiling politely at Bian Mu, clearly a well-mannered person.

"Are the movements complicated? If they're a bit difficult, I think I'll pass!" Mr. Cheng was somewhat resistant.

Upon hearing this, Bian Mu felt somewhat displeased.
