Chapter 1595 Choosing a Major
Han Li took out his key, opened the door, went inside, boiled some water for himself, and then took out the note to read it.

The note was written by a man named Torin O'Neill on this floor. He is a junior at the University of Pennsylvania and also a tenant here.

Because 95 percent of the tenants in this building are students from the University of Pennsylvania, unlike the apartment buildings outside where the tenants come from all sorts of backgrounds.

Since they were all classmates, and Torin O'Neill had a lively personality, liked excitement and making friends, he had become able to talk to the long-term tenants on the floors above and below him over the years.

Over time, Torin O'Neill became a sort of liaison between the tenants on these floors, and was also known as the 18th floor's building manager by default.

Torin O'Neill usually mediates conflicts between people living on different floors due to soundproofing issues, and organizes gatherings, parties, Christmas dances, and welcome parties for new residents among the younger students on these floors.

Today, when Han Li left the white cloth covering the furniture at the door for the cleaning staff to collect, Torin O'Neill saw it when he came home from school.

When Torin O'Neill inquired with the property management, he learned that a new resident had moved into his floor, and that the resident was a PhD student at the university who had been renting the apartment long-term.

In the past, when this happened, Torin O'Neill would organize a welcome party for the students on the floors above and below, so that they could get to know each other.

This was also what Torin O'Neill thought, which is why Han Li saw this note after he returned.

Although Torin O'Neill wrote down his situation, the floor information, and usual practices on the note, he ended by saying that he had time to come over and get to know him.

However, Han Li learned about some common situations at the school in the ruined city of Pennsylvania from his senior, Cedric Marshall, that morning, and also knew a little about Torin O'Neill.

However, Cedric Marshall was a doctoral student and had almost no opportunity to interact with junior students. His knowledge of Torin O'Neill was limited to having heard of him and knowing that he was a very active person, but that was all he knew.

Furthermore, finding various excuses to gather and party is currently a major trend in the United States, with college students being at the forefront of this trend.

This morning, Cedric Marshall mentioned more than once that he wanted to throw a welcome party for Han Li, but he was only responsible for finding the venue and gathering people.

Therefore, when Han Li saw the note left by Torin O'Neill, he could almost guess what the other party wanted to do without even thinking.

However, Han Li didn't take it to heart. Although they were nominally from the same school, their classrooms were several miles apart, making it difficult for them to meet.

The only place where the two could interact was when they lived in the same building and on the same floor, and might bump into each other while riding the elevator. But what kind of relationship is that? This isn't China.

Moreover, Han Li had no intention of staying here permanently. It was uncertain whether he would continue to live here after he figured out the school's situation and the school's schedule.

So, after reading it, Han Li threw the note into the trash can.

After the water boiled, Han Li made himself a cup of tea, finished the steak he had packed to go, took a shower, picked up his teacup, turned off the living room light, and went back to his bedroom to read.

The next day, even in a foreign land, Han Li was still woken up early by his own biological clock.

After opening his eyes and looking around the room, Han Li quickly came to his senses, got up, and briefly practiced the Xingyi Quan stance in the living room, then did a round of the Spring Breeze and Rain Technique.

Next, Han Li went to the bathroom to shower and brush his teeth, took out his class schedule, and prepared all the books he needed to bring for the day. Finally, Han Li placed the reading list that Professor Giovanni Morrick had given him in the most conspicuous place. The University of Pennsylvania Library basically had all of these books; whether he could borrow them depended on whether they had already been checked in.

However, Han Li did not plan to borrow the books one by one from the library. Instead, he planned to find some time to go to the bookstore and buy all the books on his list.

It was still early, so Han Li boiled water to make himself a cup of tea and took out his textbook to preview the text to pass the time.

When it was almost time, Han Li got dressed and went out. Following the crowd, he ate a few beef burgers and a Coke at a roadside restaurant chain before heading towards the school.

For the next period of time, Han Li's life became a routine of going back and forth between two points.

Han Li attended classes at school and reviewed his lessons at home. During this time, he also declined an invitation to Cedric Marshall's party, becoming a good student who focused on and loved learning.

Actually, that's not the case. Besides assessing the school's teaching situation, Han Li has been thinking about his future path.

This situation lasted for a little over a week. Today, Han Li called Professor Giovanni Morrick again, made an appointment, and went directly to his office.

This time, Han Li directly told Professor Giovanni Morrick about the major he wanted to study in depth.

After some conversation, Han Li first explained his teaching situation in Hong Kong, stating that he had to return every now and then to complete his work.
Professor Giovanni Morrick already knew about Han Li's situation from Professor Rand Swanson of Peking University, so his case was easily approved.

At this point, Han Li mentioned the three majors he wanted to study in depth during his doctoral studies: Western European sociology and humanities, and Western European linguistics.

Three majors? Has Han Li gone mad? Does he want to spend his whole life pursuing a doctorate?
Han Li was certainly not crazy; he made this decision after careful consideration.

Han Li may have chosen three majors, but in reality, he only needs to work hard on the two majors of Western European Sociology and Humanities.

Western European linguistics? That's no problem at all for Han Li, who has a cheat-like ability.

Han Li has now mastered fifteen foreign languages: English, Italian, German, French, Russian, Malay, Polish, Czech, Latin, Greek, Portuguese, Spanish, Mandarin, and Burmese.
In addition, there are four other less common English languages: Scottish Gaelic, Irish Gaelic, Welsh, and Cornish.

If Han Li wanted, he could even reveal all of this upon graduation to solidify his image as a language genius.

Because Han Li had experience studying for a master's degree in England, and his previous studies covered roughly the same topics, Professor Giovanni Morrick readily agreed to his choice of these three majors.

After obtaining permission from Professor Giovanni Morrick, Han Li listened to a lengthy explanation of the relevant theories and where to begin.

Finally, Han Li received another book list filled with book catalogs.

However, this book list was compiled by Professor Giovanni Morrick, and it contains even more books than the previous one.

Han Li frowned as he read the long list of books. This was only the list of books he had to read this year. After completing the professor's exam before Christmas, he would receive a new reading list based on Han Li's situation.
