Chapter 1008: Kill the bad guys, kill the good guys, even kill yourself?
The Wanli Reforms succeeded because they abandoned even the outward appearance of Confucianism, focusing entirely on Legalism and rebellion.
Confucianism emphasizes the laws established by the three dynasties and the ancestors, while the Reform Movement emphasizes keeping up with the times and not blindly following the ancestors. Confucianism believes that dividing the family is unfilial, so the family should pass on the tradition of farming and reading. However, the Reform Movement does not allow the emergence of large families that threaten the imperial power. They either grant favors by dividing the family or execute the entire family.
Confucianism advocates that the monarch should rule by doing nothing, while the Wanli Reforms emphasized that authoritarian figures were the absolute core.
Confucianism teaches that all other professions are inferior except for studying, while the Reform Movement emphasized military merit, titles, and land, as well as multiple promotion systems, a flourishing of diverse ideas, and the contention of a hundred schools of thought. Confucianism also stressed that personal relationships are more important than the law, and that rule by man is more important than rule of law, while the Reform Movement emphasized the policies of the Wenhua Hall, which were to be resolutely implemented, and that the law was more important than personal relationships.
Ling Yunyi's son sold Ling Yunyi's life's glory for 70,000 taels of silver. Ling Yunyi was willing to retire so that the emperor would investigate thoroughly.
His Majesty the Emperor is already very fortunate. In addition to his own magnanimity, he has the support of Zhang Juzheng in civil affairs and Qi Jiguang in military affairs. In civil affairs, there is Zhang Juzheng and his large party. In military affairs, there is Qi Jiguang and a well-trained elite garrison in the capital. There is also the navy. In addition, there are the huge profits from the overseas acquisitions. It is only through these efforts that His Majesty has stumbled and struggled to get to where he is today.
If it were a time of dynastic change, things could naturally be done more drastically, but for reforms that aimed to break with the old and establish the new, this was already the limit of what the Ming Dynasty could achieve within its framework.
The imperial censors who went to Songjiang Prefecture caused great harm to the students there. At least in terms of public opinion, these censors came up with the idea of requiring students to undergo military training, which was really hard for the scholars of the Ming Dynasty to understand. However, this decree was still implemented after being approved by the emperor.
In March, these dozen or so censors returned to the capital and were besieged by the scholar-officials in front of the Censorate, who questioned them about their betrayal.
The censor's answer was quite interesting. The leading censor simply replied: "Changes must be made, otherwise the academy will only be able to train cowards, not warriors."
At Tianma Academy, the child who was killed had been bullied for months until he was finally beaten to death. All the students at Tianma Academy were cowards; not a single one stood up to protect him, nor did a single one stand up to condemn him. Everyone chose to remain silent.
In the eyes of these censors, there is no such thing as indifference or selfishness in the world, nor is there any selfishness that means turning a blind eye to things that don't concern them. Selfishness is just an excuse for their own cowardice.
If the students trained by the academy are all such weak cowards, what hope is there for the Ming Dynasty?
The censors offered little explanation, and the scholars and officials dared not rush to the Huangji Gate to plead with His Majesty to rescind the decree. Thus, this matter became part of the Dinghai school system.
The main reason why the scholar-officials went to block the censor was that they were worried that if this decree were to be extended from Songjiang Prefecture to Shuntian Prefecture, their children would also suffer the same fate. Soon, their fears came true.
Shuntian Prefecture and Songjiang Prefecture were selected as pilot areas for this decree and implemented it together.
The spoiled brats of the capital were all thrown into the capital's military camp and severely disciplined by the general and His Majesty the Emperor. The training regimen was much lighter than that of the elite soldiers, but these brats were still scolded until they cried and begged for mercy.
Acts of cowardice will not be tolerated!
In fact, Zhu Yijun did not realize the seriousness of the problem until the students from various schools in the capital were sent to the Beijing garrison. It was only when he started training these students that he realized it was too late and that he should have done it much earlier.
The future of the Ming Dynasty, the rising sun at seven or eight o'clock, is so cowardly that it is not even as courageous as some old scholars.
The old scholars occasionally dared to contradict the emperor, praising his wisdom and might, but doing so was still against propriety. However, these scholars were too weak; they chose to accept injustice, turn a blind eye to unfairness, and stand by indifferently to illegality.
Zhu Yijun ordered increased training, raising the intensity to an extreme level, and extending the initial training period to six months.
With such a grand spectacle in the capital, it was impossible for the foreign barbarian Li Yashi not to know. On March 24th, with the emperor's permission, Li Yashi, as an interpreter of the Court of State Ceremonial, led a large group of foreign envoys to the Ming Dynasty's Beijing Garrison and witnessed firsthand the training process of the students from Shuntian Prefecture.
Upon returning to the Siyiguan (Foreigners' Hall), Li Yashi was deeply moved and spent a long time pondering before beginning to write his "Travels in the Great Ming Dynasty".
"Travels in the Ming Dynasty" is Li Yashi's masterpiece, which was updated over a period of seventeen years and has become a best-selling book among Western nobles because it contains the most authentic depiction of the Ming Dynasty.
Li Yashi laid out his writing materials, took out the imperial-bestowed fountain pen, and pondered for a long time before beginning to write. He first wrote in Chinese, then translated it into Latin to ensure the accuracy of his expression. In his travelogue, he wrote:
The Ming emperor possessed an army that could morally be called Holy Warriors, and now, His Majesty the Supreme Emperor seems to have found a training method to turn trash into Holy Warriors.
This is more miraculous than legendary alchemy, because these trained children undergo a fundamental transformation.
Some students, before undergoing rigorous training, were just rough stones, but in just one month, they have already transformed into unpolished gems.
The seeds of the eight virtues have already been planted in their hearts, and it is inevitable that they will take root, sprout, blossom, and bear fruit.
These six months of training will become a valuable asset for them for life. These experiences will take root in their memories and ultimately reward them with a life completely different from their previous one.
Justice will prevail; this has never been a lie.
Imagine your superior transforming from a morally upright, principled, serious, and highly skilled junior officer into a shameless rogue with no morals, no bottom line, and no military competence. A rapid decline in the army's combat effectiveness becomes inevitable.
Pursuing lofty morals is never a mistake.
His Majesty led the Ming Dynasty out of its quagmire and, through the Dinghai Education System, set higher goals for the Wanli Era's great reforms.
Unfortunately, the West at present cannot even establish a loose commercial alliance to counter the pressure from the Ming Dynasty at sea, let alone pursue higher spiritual goals.
At this crossroads of historical choice, all Westerners, are you going to rashly and blindly choose to let your opponents decide your fate?
This is a great tragedy, but there's nothing I can do about it.
Li Yashi finished writing today's diary, his travelogue, which was actually his diary of life in the Ming Dynasty. He then carefully selected and compiled it into a book. He didn't know what was so interesting about it; it was full of complaints.
However, once the Daming Bookstore printed his travelogue, it would be snapped up as soon as it arrived in the West. In Lisbon, Portugal, a book-copying industry even emerged. The travelogue printed by Daming would be copied in large quantities in workshops in Lisbon, and the copies would flow throughout the West.
Based on just this one travelogue, he has already been hailed as a great writer, the terminator of the old religion, and the beginning of a new era.
Because in his travelogue, Li Yashi wrote many criticisms of religion and described how Chinese royal power triumphed over divine power.
"The training methods of the Beijing garrison have a magical ability to turn the rotten into the miraculous, but this training method is not suitable for the West." Li Yashi was already fifty-four years old, and he was quite old and even unable to circumnavigate the globe again and return to his hometown.
He wanted to bring this training method back to the West through writing. The training method was completely public and was written in the New Book of Effective Tactics. Felipe originally intended to translate the New Book of Effective Tactics into Latin, but he gave up because oranges grown south of the Huai River are sweet oranges, while those grown north of the Huai River are bitter oranges, due to the difference in soil and water.
This training method originated from the land of the Ming Dynasty. It cannot be learned even if you want to. Some paths must be walked and explored by oneself.
Li Yashi flipped through a miscellaneous newspaper, summarized its contents, and wrote them into his travelogue. This miscellaneous newspaper was an article published in the "Minbao" newspaper, which mainly focused on the research of the Hanlin Academy scholars on tortoise shell and animal bone inscriptions.
The Shang kings offered sacrifices to the Qiang people and livestock to their ancestors, inquiring about potential calamities. In early oracle bone inscriptions, these sacrifices were performed by diviners, who consulted with the heavens. However, later oracle bone inscriptions show the Shang kings themselves performing divination. This change completes the details of the complete victory of royal power.
During the middle and late Shang Dynasty, the king had already controlled all the interpretation rights of divination.
Li Yashi wrote about this change in his travelogue. He didn't know what kind of impact these things would have on Taixi, but he thought it was useful, so he wrote it down.
Li Yashi also specifically explained a misunderstanding here. When he first arrived in the Ming Dynasty, he always felt something was strange, because the quality of books in the Ming Dynasty was rather poor.
At this point, Li Yashi concluded that the Ming Dynasty lacked advanced book-making techniques, resulting in poor book quality.
The paper in the Ming Dynasty was very thin, and the ink in the Ming Dynasty was also very cheap, unlike the ink from the West.
This is a complete misunderstanding. The Ming Dynasty had very exquisite books. All the "Concise Edition of the Yongle Encyclopedia" and "Journey to the West" printed by the Sanjing Factory were very beautiful, not to mention the "Veritable Records of the Ming Dynasty" kept in the Imperial Archives, which were the finest of the fine.
Having lived in the Ming Dynasty for so many years, Li Yashi finally figured out the reason for the poor quality of Ming Dynasty books: in order to mass-produce them.
The paper made in the Ming Dynasty was very thin; this incident offers a glimpse into the differences between the Ming Dynasty and the West.
Making paper thinner is an extremely sophisticated technique, deliberately done by craftsmen, because printing in the Ming Dynasty involved printing on one side only, leaving the back unprinted, folding it in the middle, and binding it with thread. Woodblock printing was cheaper than movable type printing.
Western books can be printed on both sides, which requires thick paper, making it too expensive.
The reason why the Ming Dynasty repeatedly tried to reduce the cost of books and lower the prices of woodblocks and paper was to reduce the price of books in order to meet the general demand for books among the people of the Ming Dynasty.
There were simply too many scholars in the Ming Dynasty. In the capital, more than half of the people were literate, and in the whole of the Ming Dynasty, more than 20% of the population were literate. Even long novels of a hundred chapters had become consumer goods for ordinary people.
With a large number of literate people and scholars, there was a high demand for books. More exquisite and expensive books were obviously not suitable for the Ming Dynasty. In contrast, in the West, fewer people were literate, and scholars were mostly nobles, so naturally, the more exquisite the books, the better.
Meanwhile, the Ming emperors were expanding literacy rates through the Dinghai education system.
Li Yashi's travelogue was not particularly popular in the Ming Dynasty, but the Ming emperor liked to read it. The main reason was that Li Yashi could provide a mechanism for correcting errors by 'astonishing friendly nations'. After all, the Ming Dynasty, as the Celestial Empire, was very concerned about its image, and things that were being scrutinized by friendly nations would always change.
It's one thing to lose face domestically, but if Li Yashi writes about it in his travelogue, he'll lose face internationally.
After reading Li Yashi's latest travelogue, Zhu Yijun felt that Li Yashi had changed. He no longer made up jokes. In fact, the emperor knew very well that Li Yashi was not creatively exhausted and unable to make up jokes, but rather that he dared not make them up. He was not afraid of the emperor's wrath, but he was afraid that the emperor's ministers would tear him apart.
"He's becoming more and more timid," Zhu Yijun said, closing his travelogue and shaking his head.
Li Yashi no longer dared to criticize the problems existing in the Ming Dynasty, but instead focused on praising and extolling it. He had lost the courage he had in his youth.
“Your Majesty, the Shah’s envoy has brought a memorial, a memorial from Salim, the Crown Prince of the Mughal Empire, who studied in the Ming Dynasty.” Feng Bao placed another memorial in front of His Majesty.
Salim was Akbar's most promising son. Salim couldn't wait to succeed to the throne and launched a rebellion against Akbar. Akbar tolerated it and sent him to study in the Ming Dynasty. After he completed his studies, Akbar recalled Salim to continue as crown prince.
Salim frequently wrote letters to the Ming Dynasty, and occasionally, as the Crown Prince, he would submit memorials to His Majesty the Emperor, describing the customs and culture of the Mongol Empire.
Akbar is currently planning to retake Afghanistan, while Salim has been tasked with attacking a Mughal sect called the Turks.
The Thuky religion worships Kali, the wife of Shiva, the god of destruction, and believes that acting according to Kali's will can maintain the balance of good and evil in the world. Salim sought to eradicate the Thuky religion because its core religious tenet was murder.
Its basic doctrine is: bad people should be killed in order to stop them from doing bad things; good people should be killed in order to prevent them from becoming bad; and one should also kill oneself in order to be reborn as a Brahmin or a Kshatriya.
“Even with the tolerance of the Mughal Empire, they themselves could no longer tolerate this Tukism, because in the two hundred years since its inception, it has caused the deaths of no less than two million people, all of whom were laborers growing cotton on plantations.” Feng Bao explained why this Tukism was an evil religion.
"Tolerance" was the most polite way Feng Bao could use; he didn't directly call it a cesspool, which showed great respect for the Mughal Empire.
A church whose fundamental purpose is murder is even more absurd than the Elysium Church.
At least the Bliss Cult pursues pleasure, abandons all responsibility, and indulges in self-enjoyment. From an extremely self-centered perspective, its logic is still understandable. However, the Tuki Cult's actions and doctrines all revolve around murder, making its logic incomprehensible.
“Not only do they kill, but this Tuji cult also eats people.” Zhu Yijun looked at the memorial in front of him, his face ashen.
In his view, this Tukki religion was far more evil than the Blissful Religion. After killing people, the Tukki also ate people, believing that eating people could increase their magical power. Once their magical power reached a certain level, they would commit suicide and be reborn.
It's one thing to kill bad people and good people alike, but why kill yourself too?
This sect is really too evil.
Salim received four years of education in the Ming Dynasty. As the crown prince, he could no longer tolerate the Tuki religion and launched an attack on the Ud region. In just one battle, he captured the Tuki leader, Belams.
In just ten years, this Berrams murdered 931 victims, sparing neither men nor women, young nor old. Salim hanged Berrams' entire family in Urd and, based in Urd, began a purge of the entire Urd region.
Zhu Yijun was bewildered and deeply shocked. He replied with over a hundred words, congratulating Salim on his victory and warning him to be wary of assassination attempts by extremist cultists.
Although the Japanese religion of Gokuraku (Paradise) is still rampant, it has already shown signs of decline. From its inception to its peak, and then to its decline, it only maintained its glory for fifteen years before it was met with widespread opposition.
According to Salim's account, this Thokki sect had been wreaking havoc for two hundred years. It was only because Salim had the will to do so, in order to gain the throne and perform meritorious service, that he dealt with this evil force; otherwise, it would have continued to wreak havoc.
This actually proves that the influence of Ming culture on the surrounding areas had a positive effect. China's expansion into the surrounding areas can indeed be described as education and benevolence.
At least within the sphere of influence of Chinese culture, such evil spirits are still considered taboo and cannot gain widespread acceptance.
Zhang Juzheng's purge of officials continued and intensified. Sixteen high-ranking officials, including Cai Guozhen, the Right Provincial Governor of Zhejiang, Duan Heyi, the Left Provincial Councilor of Shandong, Liu Huaishu, the Prefect of Zhangde in Henan, and Zhang Yangxing, the Prefect of Changzhou, were investigated and punished under Zhang Juzheng's purge.
In severe cases, it could lead to Wang Zhuan being dismissed from his post and stripped of his official rank; in milder cases, it could result in being demoted three ranks.
Two of these cases are the most surprising.
Duan Heyi, the Left Councilor of Shandong, was the only one in this purge who was to be beheaded and his head displayed in public.
Duan Heyi was a native of Kunshan County, Suzhou Prefecture. In the first year of the Wanli reign, he ranked eighteenth in the provincial examination of Yingtian Prefecture and eighty-first in the metropolitan examination. In the second year of the Wanli reign, he became a Jinshi (a successful candidate in the highest imperial examination) of the second class. With the introduction of Li Le, he became a disciple of the Quanchu Guild Hall in the fifth year of the Wanli reign. In the fifth year of the Wanli reign, he was appointed as a judge in Huizhou Prefecture, Guangdong Province. In the ninth year of the Wanli reign, he became the prefect of Huizhou Prefecture. In the twelfth year of the Wanli reign, he was transferred to Shandong Province and served as the deputy provincial inspector of Shandong Province.
Originally, the purge of the party did not reach Duan Heyi. Duan Heyi kept three mistresses in Jinan Prefecture. One of these mistresses was surnamed Liu. Her younger brother was a scholar who passed the imperial examination and served as the magistrate of Boping County in Shandong.
When word of Zhang Juzheng's purge of the party reached Jinan Prefecture, this mistress, surnamed Liu, began to relentlessly pressure Duan Heyi.
Liu's bargaining chip was evidence of Duan Heyi's corruption, and her only request was to have Duan Heyi grant her the status of a concubine, since she had given birth to two sons for him.
To avoid being investigated, Duan Heyi agreed to Liu's request.
But as soon as Duan Heyi agreed, Liu immediately went even further, demanding that Duan Heyi arrange for her younger brother to go even further.
Duan Heyi refused Liu's request, citing the current tense situation. Liu then presented evidence of Duan Heyi's corruption, which annoyed Duan Heyi greatly. In response, Duan Heyi instructed his servants to silence Liu and her brother forever.
Originally, Duan Heyi intended to change the murder scene to a suicide, and given Duan Heyi's high position and power in Shandong, the case could be classified very simply.
Everything was ready except for the final push. Duan Heyi's subordinates did indeed murder Liu Shi and his brother, but they did it by blowing them up in the street!
When the case reached the Emperor's ears, all the court officials were shocked and ordered someone to blow up the mistress's house in the bustling city center of the provincial capital.
The court officials recognized these words individually, but when put together, they were momentarily at a loss and confused. The case seemed absurd no matter how you looked at it, yet it happened in broad daylight.
Sixteen pounds of explosives exploded on the main street of Jinan Prefecture. Liu and her brother were killed on the spot. The eight sedan chair carriers, who had known about the explosion beforehand, managed to dodge in time and escaped unharmed. However, an innocent civilian on the street was killed and two others were injured.
Duan Heyi's subordinate: The mission has been perfectly accomplished; Liu Shi and her brother are now silenced forever.
Duan Heyi: ?
Can you say it's because the subordinates were incompetent? These subordinates were far too capable! They were completely wiped out.
Because the nature of the crime was so egregious, it had to be severely punished. Thus, Duan Heyi became the only official among those who were executed during the purge, and the execution was expedited.
Duan Heyi expressed his annoyance and his desire to shut up. The advisor frowned, wanting to share the master's burdens but also unwilling to take the blame. He was vague in his instructions, and the servants, thinking that the master wanted to establish his authority, naturally did whatever made the most noise.
Indeed, this was an accidental incident caused by the subordinate's excessive execution, and it was similar to the Qingmaqiao case in Rongcheng County. However, since this accident was instigated by Duan Heyi, he was bound to die.
Another outrageous case is Zhang Yangxing, the prefect of Changzhou, who had a strange hobby: slaughtering pigs.
Someone, knowing his preferences, set up a pig farm specifically for the prefect of Changzhou. This prefect, however, disliked killing piglets and preferred killing large pigs. During his five years in office, he slaughtered a total of 600 pigs, earning him the nickname "Butcher Zhang."
Slaughtering pigs is very troublesome. It involves catching, binding, killing, bleeding, removing hair, gutting, removing the entrails, and cleaning all the meat. The whole process takes about an hour. In order to slaughter pigs more efficiently, butcher Zhang invented an assembly line operation, which reduced the pig slaughtering process to within 45 minutes.
Moreover, because the pigs were slaughtered quickly and efficiently, this pig farm became the largest pig slaughterhouse in the entire Suzhou-Songjiang-Changzhou-Yangzhou-Yingtian region.
His love for slaughtering pigs is related to his childhood experiences. When he was a child, his family was poor and could not afford meat. He loved watching butchers slaughter pigs and always dreamed that one day he could slaughter pigs so that he would have an endless supply of meat.
Once power was in his hands, he realized his childhood dream.
The imperial guards didn't believe it at first, so they found a pig, set up a field, and let him kill it. That immediately stunned the imperial guards!
With just a single butcher's knife, Zhang Yangxing skillfully and fluidly dissected a nearly 200-pound pig into a marketable state in a quarter of an hour, separating the fat, lean meat, ribs, bones, and even the offal. Even the legendary butcher Ding could not have done it better.
His downfall wasn't due to being slaughtered, but rather because he embezzled 70,000 taels of silver. Of this, about 40,000 taels were from favors he couldn't refuse. His final punishment was merely dismissal from office, and if there were a lack of upright officials in the future, there was still a possibility of reinstatement.
But the act of slaughtering pigs is something that people talk about with great interest.
The emperor didn't reprimand Zhang Yangxing too much for killing the pig. After all, the emperor himself was not a proper official. The emperor thought that Zhang Yangxing was a decent person. He was just venting his frustrations on the pig instead of his subordinate.
These two cases are truly jaw-dropping and eye-opening!
What made Zhu Yijun quite relieved was that there was no resistance to the investigation throughout the entire process. After all, the last time the troops marched into Rongcheng, it caused such a huge commotion that everyone subconsciously rejected the option of resistance.
While Zhang Juzheng was turning his blade inward, the struggle between Yingtian and Songjiang, the secondary capitals, entered a heated phase. Memorials from Yingtian Prefecture came one after another, expressing the strongest opposition to the plan to have the emperor stay in Songjiang Prefecture.
Songjiang Prefecture, however, did not respond at all, focusing instead on the construction of the Huangpu Imperial Palace. They even completed the construction of the Six Ministries to facilitate the Emperor's stay with his entourage. Each memorial they submitted was a report on the progress of the project, detailing how many rooms had been built today, how many acres of lake had been constructed tomorrow, and how many trees would be planted the day after.
Even the Songjiang Prefecture government had a special Imperial Archives built in the Imperial Palace, where the Yongle Encyclopedia and its meticulously collated copies were placed in the stone palace of the Imperial Archives.
What Shuntian Prefecture has, Songjiang Prefecture should have, and even better.
Most importantly, the imperial road from Jinan to Yangzhou will be completed three months ahead of schedule and will begin trial operation in October, ensuring that His Majesty the Emperor can travel directly to Yangzhou by imperial road and then take a boat directly to Songjiang when he makes his southern tour to Songjiang Prefecture next year.
Once His Majesty arrives, no matter how many reasons the Yingtian Prefecture gives, it cannot change this established fact.
"No need to argue anymore, Songjiang Prefecture will take it." Zhu Yijun, sitting on the dragon throne, had read all the memorials from Yingtian Prefecture. The people who submitted the memorials all made sense and their reasons were all very valid, but Zhu Yijun still made the decision.
"Your Majesty, we obey your decree." After Zhang Juzheng and the other court officials realized that the emperor had made up his mind, they led the other officials in paying their respects, thus finalizing the matter.
Zhu Yijun began, “Gentlemen, I have good news. The Tonghe Palace Treasury has been completed. The Grand Secretary, the Director of the Imperial Academy of Natural Sciences, the Commander-in-Chief of the Beijing Garrison, and the Minister of Revenue each have one key. According to regulations, if all four keys are available, the treasury can be opened and gold can be put in. Gold in the Tonghe Palace can only enter and not leave.”
“From the fifteenth year of the Wanli reign onwards, over a period of five years, the Tonghe Palace Treasury accumulated six million taels of gold.”
"There is also bad news. I plan to stop issuing paper money for five years, starting this year, and withdraw all the gold paper money that has been issued."
When Grand Minister Zhang Xueyan heard the first piece of news, his face lit up with joy. But when he heard the second piece of news, that no new paper money would be issued, his expression changed drastically. He wished he could depose the emperor immediately!
Emperor, do you even know what you're doing?!
Zhang Xueyan immediately stepped forward, bowed, and said, “Your Majesty’s benevolence is boundless, and your virtue is towering. You listen to all directions and manage all affairs, personally handling every matter without tiring. You save the world and bring peace to the people. I dare to ask why the issuance of paper money has been suddenly suspended? The people are suffering from hunger and thirst due to the shortage of money. This is a matter of great importance and importance. I dare not conceal it and ask Your Majesty for your opinion. I humbly beg Your Majesty’s wise guidance and instructions on the appropriate course of action.”
"Look, you're in such a hurry. Let me finish." Zhu Yijun didn't feel offended. As the Minister of Revenue, Zhang Xueyan was in charge of the nation's finances. The paper money was an important means for the court to replenish its insufficient liquidity. Now that it was suddenly said that the issuance would be suspended, and even for five years, it was Zhang Xueyan's duty to find out the truth.
The idea of stopping the issuance of paper money was the result of Zhu Yijun's careful consideration.
