I'm really not doing business
Chapter 856: New Scholars, Farmers, Merchants and Businessmen
Chapter 856: New Scholars, Farmers, Merchants and Businessmen
Lorien doesn't think that the Ming Dynasty will move away from reality and toward virtuality for two reasons.
The first reason is that people in the Central Plains particularly like farming, that is, they like production. Even the governor of the Governor's Office likes to grow some flowers and plants at home, such as plum, orchid, bamboo and chrysanthemum, which is regarded as the character of scholars.
In fact, what Lorian didn't know was that the prime minister of the Ming Dynasty would even plant some sweet potatoes himself to determine the yield. It was really that magical. The emperor even regarded himself as a farmer. With the former Baoqisi, now the Agricultural College, he cultivated countless fine varieties and continued to improve various crops and livestock species.
It is better to plant than to rob. This has been the experience of the Central Plains for thousands of years. Robbery cannot last long and you cannot rob much.
The King of Shang did not grow wheat, so the princes from all directions would hold regular wheat reporting ceremonies to tell the King where the wheat was ripe. The King would then take people to grab it. But later, this wheat reporting activity became less and less common, because it did not seem very cost-effective. If the king mobilized to go to war and took back the wheat, the harvest would not be enough to distribute to the soldiers. So the King of Shang began to grow wheat himself.
Suing wheat gradually evolved into asking for rebellion.
The core idea of the king that it is better to plant than to rob constitutes the cornerstone of the loyalty thought seal of the Jinchi Governor's Office.
Any idea depends on the material basis. As long as the mineral-commodity convection between Ming Dynasty and Juezhou exists, the Jinchi Governor's Office will remain loyal. There is no other place to consume so much ore.
The second reason is that people in the Central Plains love to rebel too much. Ever since Lorian studied the history books of the Ming Dynasty, she has always been immersed in an incredible feeling. In the long history of the Central Plains, at the end of the dynasty, there have always been several large-scale civilian rebellions.
In Lorian's view, the most important thing in moving away from the real and moving towards the virtual is the endurance of the common people. Even if their needs cannot be met, they will die on their own or wander around, instead of acting like the people in the Central Plains, holding bamboo poles and starting to act, eventually turning the whole world into a mess and bringing down the ruling class.
The most typical example is Antonio being the King of Portugal. Antonio gained the support of most civilians, but it was completely useless. Antonio was able to sit firmly on the throne because of the support from the Emperor of the Ming Dynasty and the courage of the Free Fleet to fight to the death.
Based on these two reasons, Lorian believed that there was no way for the Ming Dynasty to move away from reality and toward virtuality. The most kind-hearted people mentioned by the Ming emperor only existed in the emperor's fantasy.
On the second day after arriving at the Governor's Mansion of Jinchi, Lorian went to the small town of Golden Plains. The name of the place was Jinyuan Town, which was used specifically for gold panning. Lorian discovered some very strange things.
There were no Japanese or foreign slaves at the gold mine, only Han people working hard.
"If we use the amalgam method, we will use Wo Nuo, but we haven't found any mercury mines, so we are still using the heavy sand soot blowing method, which is mining, pounding, grinding, water bed pulling, pelletizing and sintering, adding lead, and soot blowing." Deng Zilong explained in detail why there is no Wo Nuo.
The heavy sand blowing method is a delicate job. Digging gold mines is a job with extremely high labor remuneration, so it is not the turn of the Japanese slaves to do it. The Japanese slaves are engaged in heavy labor work, and they will not be used unless the amalgam method is used.
The amalgam method is the same as the previous steps. After grinding the ingredients, all the materials are thrown into the mercury. Due to the specific gravity, gold will sink to the bottom and form gold amalgam at the bottom, while silver will form silver amalgam on the surface.
The amalgam method is nothing new. It is also recorded in "The Exploitation of the Works of Nature": Mercury can digest gold and silver into mud, similar to plating.
However, the toxicity of the amalgam method would reduce the life span of a Japanese slave to less than three years.
The Japanese and foreign slaves of the Ming Dynasty were all purchased, unlike the slaves in the rich silver mines, who were all captured by the red-haired foreigners themselves. Therefore, the Ming Dynasty would usually let a Japanese slave work for more than ten years in the hope of the highest return rate, and generally would not be overly harsh on him.
Deng Zilong explained the difference in costs. He shook his head and said, "Even if we find a mercury mine, we probably won't use the amalgam method to smelt it. The amalgam method is fast and the output is indeed large, but it is a loss of virtue. In addition, the cost of the Japanese slaves will reduce the profit, so it seems that the soot blowing method is a good choice."
"Aren't there a lot of barbarians here? Just capture them." Lorian said immediately.
It is not cost-effective for the Governor-General's Office of Jinchi to purchase the Japanese slaves. Considering the shipping cost plus the cost of the Japanese slaves, the Governor-General's Office of Jinchi would pay half as much as in Manila. If the cost is calculated in this way, the profit would be a bit low.
But there are obviously endless human mines to be mined on this golden plain, but we have to go far away to buy the Japanese slaves, which is a bit of a loss.
Deng Zilong was silent for a moment and then said, "These barbarians don't bother us, so why should we arrest them? It would be best if we can live in peace."
Luo Lian smiled. This was one of the disadvantages of the Ming Dynasty in expanding overseas, a high moral disadvantage. Deng Zilong traded the golden sword to the barbarians.
"Governor!" A horseman with a flag on his back galloped all the way, dismounted in front of Deng Zilong, and said anxiously, "Governor, we found that the Kulin people gathered and planned to harass Jinyuan Town!"
Luo Li'an smiled even more brightly. If the Ming Dynasty did not provoke the barbarians, would the barbarians not provoke the Ming people? Luo Li'an knew that she was a red-haired foreigner. She felt that she understood the barbarians' thoughts better than Deng Zilong.
Due to the huge profits in Jinyuan Town, even the wealthy businessmen of the Ming Dynasty were willing to bring their businesses to the Jinchi Governor's Mansion 20,000 miles away. If it weren't for the strong military force of the Ming Governor's Mansion, these wealthy businessmen would never do business honestly, but would directly rob.
How could we possibly let these barbarians go?
For the barbarians, gold is very important to the Ming people. The Ming people have a lot of goods. As long as they get the gold, they can exchange it for goods. Robbing Jinyuan Town becomes the best choice.
The barbarians knew very well that they could not defeat the Ming army, but they would never give up unless they tried. Lorian was a barbarian, and she knew very well the barbarian's logic. If they could rob, they would rob. If they really couldn't rob, then they would talk a little bit of reason.
When facing barbarians, any appeasement will only result in the other party becoming more aggressive. When the barbarians learn to win, your appeasement is fear, your humility is cowardice, and the barbarians will not miss any opportunity to blackmail you.
Although the Ming Dynasty demonstrated its military power, these barbarians who overestimated their own capabilities still felt that they might be able to succeed.
Deng Zilong was busy. The battle did not last long. It was over in less than seven days. The Governor-General Jinchi's Office captured more than 4,000 foreigners without losing any people. The capture in just one time was more than the annual purchase volume.
Lorian was not idle during these seven days. She maintained the image of the governor and attended two groundbreaking ceremonies.
One is the poorhouse, which takes in widows, widowers, orphans, the elderly, the weak, the sick and the disabled. It is a form of social security and a safety net mechanism. It is one of the iconic buildings of the Ming Dynasty. Its main function is to increase the stability of the Jinchi Governor's Office.
The second groundbreaking ceremony was for the Jinchi Academy, which was as large as the Imperial University of Peking, with four phases covering an area of more than one thousand acres and a total investment of more than five million silver coins. The purpose was to build a university that could train local students. The first phase of this school was a third-level school, and the university was still under planning.
Lorian looked at the inscription at the groundbreaking ceremony, which was written by the Emperor himself: "The one who practices knowledge is the same, and is faithful."
The Ming Imperial Academy of Sciences, the Royal Institute of Technology, and the Kowloon University all have identical stone inscriptions signed by Zhu Zhongxing.
On the back of the stone, there is a passage engraved, which is a colloquial text.
“Knowledge is poisonous. Once you learn it, it is difficult to pretend to be the way you were before you were poisoned.” After reading it, Luo Li’an felt a little puzzled. She didn’t quite understand the specific meaning of this sentence. This sentence was said by Geng Dingxiang, a doctoral student in social sciences from the Institute of Social Sciences.
After returning to the Governor's Mansion, Lorian asked Deng Zilong about the specific meaning of this sentence.
Deng Zilong thought for a moment and asked, "What do you think is the antonym of restraint?"
"Divergent?" Lorian thought about it and answered the question.
"You see, this is the meaning of this sentence." Deng Zilong said with a smile: "The antonym of convergence is unbridled, not divergent. But if you read a lot of math books, the antonym of convergence will become divergence."
"Knowledge is knowledge. Reading books is like being poisoned. It is difficult to disguise. Listening, thinking and practicing go hand in hand, and you will gain wisdom of Prajna. This is the obstacle of knowledge and view."
Deng Zilong quoted a Buddhist verse and described the original meaning of this sentence, which is that if you listen, learn, think, practice, and practice in many aspects at the same time, you can gain great wisdom. The difference in cognition between people lies in learning.
This sentence is to advise students to study hard and not neglect their studies, otherwise they will make jokes like writing poems without knowing the rules of poetry, writing lyrics without knowing the rhythm of the tune, or writing mathematical proof that the number is equal to 6, which will make people laugh and cry.
For some things, after you have learned through listening, thinking and practicing, you can never go back to the state of not knowing. If you make a fool of yourself, there will be a kind of clear stupidity that has not been polluted by knowledge.
This is also the significance of universal education. If you read more and gain more knowledge, you will not be fooled by the scholars. At least you can see through the lies told by these scholars at a glance.
The development of Jinchi Governor's Office is gratifying, everything is thriving, and Deng Zilong has a long-term plan for the development of Jinchi Governor's Office. In ten to twenty years, he wants to occupy all coastal ports suitable for landing.
In this way, even if the Western colonists discovered Jupiter, they would not be able to conquer the fortress built by the Ming Dynasty, just as it was difficult for the Ming Dynasty to capture the colonists' fortress on the east coast of the Pacific Ocean because it was really too far away.
Governor-General Jinchi's office has opened up a route to Datielingwei. This route is seasonal. In summer and autumn, the violent waves will tear apart any fleet that wants to pass. In winter, the ports along the way are frozen, making it difficult for ships to pass. Only spring to summer is the route suitable for navigation.
Even so, it opened up the lifeline of food and grass to the mining area, providing the most basic material support for the mining area.
The development of the Ming Overseas Governor's Office is thriving, and the Ming capital is finally preparing for the New Year.
On December 25, the 16th year of the Wanli reign, the last court meeting was held before the Ming Dynasty celebrated the New Year holiday.
The court recalled three governors at once: Shen Yikuan of Shaanxi, Wang Yi'e of Shandong, and Shen Shixing of Songjiang Prefecture, and appointed new governors. Liu Guangguo from Henan was appointed to Shaanxi and became a Jinshi in the second year of Longqing; Song Yingchang from Zhejiang was appointed to Shandong and became a Jinshi in the 44th year of Jiajing;
The reason why the Ming Dynasty called back three important officials to the capital at once was to prepare for the Ming Emperor's southern tour.
The seven-year-old eldest son Zhu Changzhi was the regent. The nine ministers discussed and formed a resolution, which was approved by the Imperial Household Department and handed over to the eldest son for stamping. All memorials were copied to the emperor who was on his southern tour for the final decision. If His Majesty did not approve, the resolution would be revised.
Shen Yikuan, Wang Yi'e and Shen Shixing are all on the list of the new Nine Ministers.
This may seem like a system of nominal monarchy, but it is nothing new.
The first to do so was Emperor Chengzu Wen. Zhu Di spent all day in the Northern Expedition and only returned to Nanjing when he got tired of it. Emperor Renzong Zhu Gaochi served as the executive vice emperor for 20 years, handling all matters.
When Emperor Xuanzong personally led an army to suppress the rebellion and put down the rebellion of the King of Han, the King of Xiang briefly served as regent. The regent advocated making a non-stick pan, and he did whatever the court officials said.
Then, Emperor Yingzong was young and the country was in turmoil. In the ninth year of Zhengtong, the Three Yangs left the court one after another, and the system of nominal monarch ended.
In the 14th year of Zhengtong, Emperor Yingzong went to study in Wala. In order to fight back against Wala, the court briefly established a system of nominal monarchs from the 14th year of Zhengtong to the first year of Jingtai.
During the reign of Emperor Xiaozong, he never made his own decisions in his entire life.
The most recent one was from the Longqing period to the fifth year of the Wanli period. Emperor Longqing disappeared and only liked to have a harem. In the early years of the Wanli period, the country was in chaos and Zhang Juzheng served as the regent of the Ming Dynasty and was in charge of state affairs.
Therefore, this short-term emergency system of a nominal monarch can be regarded as a law passed down from generation to generation. The results of these systems of nominal monarchs have been both good and bad. Shen Yiguan, Wang Yi'e, and Shen Shixing, three of the new nine ministers, are also experienced feudal warriors. The Ming emperor is in his prime, and they dare not and will not create any trouble to disgust the Ming emperor.
The most special one here is Wang Yi'e. As a disciple of Xu Jie, Wang Yi'e had nothing to do with the New Nine Ministers. However, he performed very well in the Yang Wei case. It's not that Yang Wei did not try to contact Wang Yi'e, but Wang Yi'e was too busy. He was busy with the expansion of kelp and salt fields at that time. After the incident, Wang Yi'e realized that there was something else in Yang Wei's letter.
Zhu Yijun flipped through the memorial in his hand and said to the court officials: "Wang Yi'e doesn't want to return to the court. He said that he is not virtuous and has little merit. He plans to work as the governor of Shandong until he retires. He said that he wants Shandong to become prosperous."
Wang Yi'e was reluctant to return to Beijing. He felt that as a disciple of Xu Jie, he could not express his opinions and ideas in the capital. No one would listen to him if he spoke. No one would be willing to join a faction with him. He could not do anything. It was better for him to stay in Shandong and do something practical for the people of Shandong.
In Shandong, Wang Yi'e was able to grow kelp and build salt fields, which truly made the people of Shandong rich. The people of Shandong suffered too much at the Confucius Mansion. Only after the collapse of the Confucius Mansion in Yanzhou did the people of Shandong finally surface and breathe a sigh of relief.
In Wang Yi'e's words, it is truly shocking that Shandong, with its natural endowments of mountains, rivers and arable land, could produce a nationally famous bandit like Xiangma.
"That's not up to him." Zhang Juzheng said calmly, "If the court needs him, he has to go back."
"Then urge him to come to Beijing." Zhu Yijun made the final instruction. The important personnel appointments had already been approved by the court, and personal wishes were not that important.
"The matter of Governor of Songjiang is of great importance. I think it is appropriate to let Li Le, Governor of Yingtian, go to Songjiang Prefecture to serve, and let Wang Xiyuan go to Yingtian as Governor." Zhu Yijun looked at the ministers and said the final personnel appointment, Governor of Songjiang.
After Shen Shixing left, Zhu Yijun was still prepared to hand over Songjiang Prefecture to Zhang Dang, which was a very clear attitude.
"Your Majesty, I recommend Yang Bo's son Yang Junmin." Zhang Juzheng bowed his head and said, Yang Bo's son Yang Junmin has been the prefect of Songjiang Prefecture for several years and has never made any mistakes. It is in accordance with the rules to replace him at 3 p.m.
"Your Majesty, I think Yang Junmin can go to Henan to gain some more experience." Wang Chonggu immediately stood up and said, "Your Majesty, Yang Junmin is not suitable. He is not as good as Yao Guangqi."
Wang Chonggu immediately expressed his opposition because Yang Junmin was his son-in-law.
If his son-in-law became the governor of Songjiang, it would not be a good thing for their Wang family. The thing that pigs fear most is getting fat. The fatter they are, the faster they die. And with the Labor Party, and Songjiang Prefecture being a bridgehead for opening up the sea, I'm afraid that some idiots will come up with inappropriate thoughts.
Zhu Yijun shook his head and said, "I don't like Yang Bo."
Yang Bo was a very smart man. He knew everything and was extremely accurate in judging people, but what he did was neither fair nor upright. Zhu Yijun did not like Yang Bo. He had said it more than once. Of course, he just did not like him. Yang Bo received all the posthumous titles, official burials, promotions, and posthumous honors he deserved.
Then the matter was very simple and clear. Li Le replaced Shen Shixing as the governor of Songjiang, and Shen Shixing returned to Beijing to serve as one of the Nine Ministers.
"Sir, let Yang Junmin come to the capital so I can see his ability. The job of Shuntian Prefecture's Chancellor is not an easy one. If he can do a good job, I will use him. As for whether he is an honest official, we will know after putting him on the fire." Zhu Yijun thought about it and gave Yang Junmin a chance instead of completely denying him.
Give Yang Junmin the position of Shuntian Prefecture's prefectural governor a try. If he is an honest official, he will be given an important position. If he is not, let Yang Junmin live a peaceful life as a wealthy man relying on his father's legacy and not enter the officialdom again.
This place is not suitable for him, the emperor doesn't like him, and he himself doesn't have much talent, so his fate is to die without a burial place.
"I obey your command." Zhang Juzheng bowed his head and accepted the order. Songjiang Prefecture has been in the hands of Zhang's party since its establishment. Especially recently, it has become a touchstone for the prime minister. This position should be given to someone else. If he eats alone and eats too much, he will easily be hated. But His Majesty obviously does not think so.
Your Majesty still left this lucrative place to Zhang Dang.
There is actually no difference between Zhang's Party and the Emperor's Party. People in Zhang's Party know very well that Zhang Juzheng has no political successor. Xiong Tingbi is too young to inherit his mantle. Zhang's Party is essentially the Emperor's Party, and they are assistant ministers trained by Zhang Juzheng to serve the emperor.
"After this matter is confirmed, there will be basically no other major events before the New Year." Zhu Yijun said with a smile: "When the court is dismissed, sir, please ask the Ministry of Personnel to distribute the Baishi Daji Box. At the beginning of the month, there was a happy event in the palace. Concubine Ran Shu gave birth to a son and named him Zhu Changji."
The birth of the fifth prince brought joy to Tonghe Palace. In April of the 14th year of Wanli, Concubine Zhou De became pregnant, but unexpectedly, she had a miscarriage two months later. In the first month of the 15th year of Wanli, Concubine Li An gave birth to a baby boy prematurely. The baby weighed only three pounds and died three days after birth.
This made everyone in the palace terrified, even the Empress Dowager Li began to worship Buddha sincerely and clean the pagoda every month. It was not until this year that Concubine Ran Shu gave birth to a big fat boy in December, weighing 7.32 pounds, and looking very strong, that the haze in and out of the palace was cleared. After taking good care of the child for several days and finding that the child could eat and drink and was in good health, they started to distribute the Pepsi Good Luck Boxes.
(Table of the Wanli Emperor's Successors)
"We congratulate Your Majesty and the Ming Dynasty." Upon hearing the good news, all the ministers immediately stood up and bowed their heads to congratulate Your Majesty. The more royal heirs the Ming Dynasty has, the more beneficial it will be for the stability of the Ming Dynasty.
In fact, the emperor had not had any children during this period, which caused some doubts in the Ming court. Four princes were really not many. Only one of the eight emperors of Emperor Shenzong was alive. Zhang Juzheng had experienced all the court turmoil caused by the emperor's young heirs in the late Jiajing period and the Longqing period.
Even the drama of thirteen dragons fighting for the throne is much better than a side branch entering the main clan. Emperor Wuzong had no son, and too many unexpected things happened.
The birth of the fifth prince also made all the ministers breathe a sigh of relief. Having a prince is much better than having nothing. If the emperor had no descendants, who would guarantee his affairs and reputation after his death if they fought for him?
"Your Majesty, how about taking two more concubines? Empress Dowager Li has issued decrees many times." Grand Master of the Imperial Clan Shen Li stood up and bowed his head and said.
"No, let's wait until the army returns triumphantly. The soldiers are fighting outside while I am taking concubines. If the soldiers knew about this, they would think that the soldiers are fighting for their lives on the battlefield while the beauties are singing and dancing in the tent." Zhu Yijun waved his hand and still did not allow this to happen. This was an old tradition of the Ming Dynasty.
In fact, the soldiers of the Ming Dynasty would not say that. As long as they were given enough military pay and rewards, who would care how many concubines your emperor had?
"I obey your order." Shen Li was somewhat helpless. The biggest obstacle to taking concubines was actually that His Majesty and the Queen were in perfect harmony and loved each other, and had a very good relationship. This created a huge obstacle to taking concubines, and the Emperor did not have the intention to do so.
"Your Majesty, recently, Xiaoyao Yiwen published another article titled New Interpretation of Scholars, Farmers, Merchants and Businessmen." Zhang Juzheng took out a miscellaneous newspaper and presented it to the emperor.
Young Master Huang is the major shareholder of "Xiao Yao Yi Wen". Every article in it has been reviewed by Your Majesty himself, but Your Majesty wants to play the role of Young Master Huang, and Zhang Juzheng cannot point it out. He cannot turn a blind eye when it is time to cooperate in the acting.
Watching the fun is one of the few interests that Mr. Huang has.
Zhu Yijun flipped through the newspapers and showed them to the ministers before he spoke: "Li Zhi is indeed worthy of his title of mad husband."
Li Zhi dared to say what Zhang Juzheng dared not say. When Zhang Juzheng was compiling "Theory of Class", he singled out the emperor as a separate class, and he thought this was reasonable.
But Zhu Yijun thought this was unreasonable because the emperor was a hereditary official class and was not as special or transcendent as ordinary people.
The emperors of the Ming Dynasty also had to fight with their court officials, and sometimes the fights were very ugly. From Li Shanchang during the Hongwu period to the Great Ceremony Debate during the Jiajing period, they were essentially struggles between imperial power and ministerial power.
The emperor's supremacy is only theoretical.
But Zhang Juzheng could not say that. When he was regent before, he classified the emperor as a hereditary official class, which made it easy for people to think that Zhang Juzheng had problems with his thinking and wanted to replace the emperor. No matter how others classified it, in Zhang Juzheng's eyes, the emperor was in a class of his own.
However, in his "New Interpretation of Scholars, Farmers, Merchants and Artisans", Li Zhi very boldly included the emperor in the group of scholars.
The definition of scholars has not changed from ancient times to the present. They are the ruling class, which can be subdivided into the emperor, hereditary officials, elected officials, scholar-officials and other classes. Although the identities of these people change from time to time, they have always controlled power and the fate of all people in the world. The rise and fall of the dynasty is closely related to them.
In previous interpretations, "nong" means farmers, but in Li Zhi's new interpretation, "nong" is defined as land and means of production.
Li Zhi believed that the collective term "nong" specifically referred to landlords rather than farmers since the bankruptcy of aristocratic political families, that is, starting from the Song Dynasty. Only those who owned land were farmers, while those who did not have land were tenants, rabble, or vagrants, not farmers at all.
When the Ming Dynasty transformed from a small peasant economy to a commodity economy, the definition of land expanded to include means of production and production tools in a broad sense.
Agriculture is fields, workshops, mines, commercial urban properties, ships that can sail across the oceans, and essential means of production in the production system.
Only those who own the means of production can be called farmers.
Worker, manual technician, this definition of craftsman began to become narrow with the formation of commodity economy and could no longer explain social phenomena.
Anyone who masters a certain skill can be called a worker. The accountants who were imprisoned in the Dongjiaominxiang Prison, this type of professional and technical personnel, the doctors of the Imperial Academy of Sciences, are also workers, and the doctors of agronomy are also workers.
Skilled craftsmen are also workers, while unskilled craftsmen are not workers, but hooligans and drifters who go wherever there is work.
"Merchant" has been a derogatory term since ancient times. In the era of commodity economy, "Merchant" is still a derogatory term. The definition of "Merchant" from ancient times to the present is a person who does not engage in production and specializes in buying low and selling high to make a profit from the price difference, rather than a wealthy businessperson.
The wealthy businessmen control a large amount of means of production. They are not businessmen at all, but farmers like the local gentry.
Merchants are those who use their eloquence to speculate in trade, hoard goods at high prices, and even hoard commodities such as grain and salt that are strictly prohibited. This type of people are called merchants.
"In this article, he expanded the categories of scholars, farmers, merchants and artisans to the scope of commodity economy. In fact, this arrangement has never changed. Those who have no means of production, unskilled craftsmen, tenants, rabble, migrant workers and laborers who work by physical labor are not included in the categories of scholars, farmers, merchants and artisans." Zhu Yijun said with emotion after seeing the ministers finish reading the miscellaneous reports.
Reselling and hoarding goods also require costs. At the very least, you need money. If you don’t have money, you can’t even afford the capital for reselling.
There is a huge difference between skilled craftsmen and unskilled craftsmen. Skilled craftsmen can earn a relatively decent living by relying on their rich experience, while unskilled craftsmen should be called forced laborers. The term "craftsman" is really misleading.
Poor laborers who only work physically may not be able to accumulate enough experience to become skilled craftsmen even after working all their lives.
"Your Majesty, why don't you seal it off? It's the New Year and it's causing trouble for people." Zhang Juzheng said helplessly.
Li Zhi was right. He explained the new system of scholars, farmers, merchants and artisans under the commodity economy, and his explanation was very reasonable. However, whether in the old or the new system, there seemed to be no place for poor laborers such as tenants, vagrants, hooligans and forced laborers.
What an irony.
"It's already been published, so let's just take it as it comes." Zhu Yijun had no intention of banning it.
