Chapter 1639 1611 'Assassin'

Chapter 1639 1611. 'Assassin'

"We ask for food and water."

One of the dwarves, who was resting his head with his pickaxe in hand, muttered, and another dwarf next to him echoed him.

"We also want to rest. Since you stopped fighting with the people outside the city, we have been digging until now, without stopping for a single second!"

"Yes! Food! Water! And rest!"

"Quiet!" Just as Hans, who had just finished whipping the dwarves, was at a loss as to what to do, Henry stepped forward and shouted sternly, "You are prisoners! Be realistic! If you don't want to be executed now, then work hard!"

But his severity was of no consequence to the dwarves.

"Then just kill us now!" They muttered between breaths. "We are dwarves. We have known since childhood that if we are trapped in a mine without food or water and have to dig a way out, we will probably die miserably and painfully."

"Being under your control now is no different from being trapped in a mine. You have no intention of providing us with water and food, right?!"

"Instead of dying of thirst and hunger, you might as well just chop us up!"

Although the two young humans had their nervous hands on the weapons at their waists, they could only open their lips slightly, not knowing what to say.

Because what these dwarves are thinking now is indeed what the Nilfgaardian officer told them.

Moreover, the dwarves' mumblings now were not their usual mumblings of swearing under their breath, but rather the mumblings of being really thirsty and hungry, and even their energy and spirit being exhausted.

Henry and Hans, one was an illegitimate son of a noble who was raised by his blacksmith father not long ago, and the other was a young noble who had never bought even a slave in his territory.

Where had they ever seen the treatment of prisoners on the battlefield? Not to mention the prisoners that the Nilfgaardians were not prepared to waste resources on, but only wanted to work them to death?
Hans couldn't swing the whip in his hand no matter what.

Henry wanted to speak several times, but he felt that he really had nothing to say, so he had to shut up.

Time passed by in such a dull and tiring way.

The dwarves rested on the stones they had dug out, but without water and food, how could they gain strength from resting?
Henry and Hans looked at the empty burden beside them anxiously and helplessly.

The Nilfgaardian officers had requested fifty loads of stone, and if they failed to do so, they would be in trouble.

"Okay, okay!" Hans muttered, he gritted his teeth, and the muscles in his cheeks bulged as if he had made up his mind.

But just when Henry thought he was going to start whipping people with the whip.

"Snapped!"

Hans waved his hand and threw the terrifying whip onto the stone. The noise made everyone look at him.

"That's it!" Hans untied his waist bag, took out all the dry food from it, and winked at Henry.

Henry looked simple but smart. He immediately took off his waist bag and took out food.

"Here are some rations. Share them among you. It's not much, and it's hard to fill everyone up, but there's nothing we can do!"

"We are just here to work, we can't decide anything big. But you can't run away, so the longer you can live, the better, right? We can work together, at least it will be easier, how about it?"

As he spoke, Hans and Henry picked up two pickaxes from the side and started clanking on the stones.

The dwarves, who were tied together with iron chains, looked at each other with lifeless eyes, and finally nodded dejectedly.

The iron chains rattled as they first grabbed a small pile of rations placed aside. After wolfing them down, they picked up their pickaxes with an expression that they would rather die than live.

"It's just like what you said. We can't run away, and you can't decide anything important. Well, let's just make do with what we have."

With the gentle tactics of Hans and Henry, quarrying work started again.

"Swoosh~" Henry whistled, knocking on the stone while praising his friend beside him, "Luckily you are here, Hans. Otherwise, I really don't know how to get these stubborn dwarves who can see the situation clearly to work."

When a group of stubborn and bad-tempered dwarves see that they are unlikely to survive, it is normal for them to give up.

Overseer? What's the point of an overseer for a group of people who are already planning to die?

Hans shook his head. "I should thank you, Henry. If you hadn't stopped me at the stable, I would have tasted the whip before the dwarf. I was stripped of my armor and whipped on the platform."

Two humans followed a group of dwarf prisoners, hammering on the stones.

As the night deepened, the crisp sound of pickaxes hitting stones could be heard from far away.

In the meantime, Henry and Hans went out with torches and lit all the fixed torches around to facilitate their work. They also went to the quartermaster who stayed up all night to get another pot of hot porridge for the night shift and brought it over to share with the dwarves.

No one was full, but at least everyone had something to eat.

It was the first time for Hans and Henry to do quarrying work. After several hours of swinging mechanical picks and fighting against the hardness of the rock, they were exhausted both physically and mentally.

This also made them understand that by not giving them food or water and forcing them to keep quarrying stones, the Nilfgaardians were indeed assigning them a workload with the intention of killing people.

Prisoners of war and slaves were used in Nilfgaard. But when it was late at night, Henry suddenly found that the dwarf who was working opposite him and knocking on a big stone suddenly widened his eyes.

"What's wrong?" Henry asked curiously, "Is there something wrong?"

As he said this, he was thinking about turning his head to look back.

But the dwarf on the opposite side quickly shook his head: "I was just hungry and suddenly felt anxious, nothing serious. It's fine."

Then the clanging sound started again.

Henry was so tired that his back ached and his head felt dizzy, so he didn't take it seriously.

However, on the wall behind him.
"Bah!"

Cassandra's face was calm. She was jogging lightly, and a soldier patrolling on the city wall in front of her ran into her head-on before he could even raise his guard!
The Spear of Leonidas pierced the opponent's throat accurately and smoothly while trotting.

The high-tech sharp blade of prehistoric civilization is invincible, and the extended handle allows the spear blade to protrude straight from the back of the neck!
Cassandra didn't even change her pace. As she passed the soldier, her hand had already reached from the back of the soldier's neck, grabbing the handle and pulling out the Spear of Leonidas.

The entire broken spear pierced through the neck completely, but not a drop of blood was stained.

The torch and the body fell to the ground together, but the falconer did not care.

Because long before she entered Vergen from the city walls, Ikaros in the sky had already marked the number and locations of enemies in the entire town for her.

They shared vision, and after Ikaros marked them, Cassandra could see everything these people did as if she had X-ray vision.

There were no threats around, so she didn't even bother with the bodies.

Anyway, by the time someone found out, she guessed that the job would have been done.

Coupled with the clanging noises coming from the quarry, she cared even less.

Cassandra trotted along the wall to the top of the main gate. Most of the soldiers on the road didn't even have a chance to utter a whimper before she dealt with them cleanly and neatly.

Cassandra, who had already planned her route through Ikaros' vision, never stopped along the way, and only crouched and bent over to sneak when she passed by a few fixed torches.

By the time she was right above the city gate, she had completely stopped covering herself.

He stepped on the railing and jumped towards the inside of the city gate.

With his arms spread out in mid-air to balance the wind resistance, he looks like an eagle.

"Squeak! Crack!"

Of course, guards would be arranged at the city gate. Two Nilfgaardian soldiers in black armor were now each holding a halberd and holding the hilt of the sword at their waist, chatting together to pass the boring time on duty at night.

But Cassandra swooped down from above and jumped directly between the two of them!
The height of seven or eight meters is as easy as a step.

As he jumped down, the Spear of Leonidas was already aimed at the neck of one of them.

The momentum of Cassandra's pounce not only caused the spear tip to pierce the man's neck, but even his spine could not withstand the momentum. It made a crisp sound and it was unknown how many pieces it was broken into.

The whole person immediately went limp without any struggle. The only reason he didn't fall down immediately was because of the broken spear in Cassandra's hand.

Cassandra, with a broken spear in one hand, used her other hand to wrap her elbow and armpit around the head of the Nilfgaard soldier on the other side, as if playing with good friends, and forced him to bend down.

But this is not just a joke between good friends. "Ka La!"

Cassandra's elbows were turned outward, but her palms were always hooked on the edge of the man's helmet.

When the man was twisted forcefully, his cervical vertebrae could not bear it and were broken by Cassandra with one hand.

The falconer loosened his grip, and the Nilfgaardian soldier with a broken neck fell limply to the ground.

On the other side, there was a soldier whose neck was pierced by a broken spear. Cassandra grabbed the handle of the broken spear that had passed through the man's throat and kicked the man in the stomach without even turning her head.

The person who was originally hanging on the broken spear was kicked to the back.

The gate was very deep, and there were immediate signs of exclamations and shouts coming from inside.

Cassandra's movements were indeed fast, but there were more than two soldiers guarding the city gate. The first two stood at the edge of the wall on the inside of the city gate, and the last two stood in the shadows on the inside of the doorway!
In terms of military tactical deployment, the first two guards are baits.

If someone attacked the first two guards who were standing clearly in the firelight, the last two hiding in the shadows would have at least a few breaths to sound the alarm.

But to the falconer, this arrangement is meaningless.

"Whoosh!"

Cassandra threw the broken spear with her backhand, and she didn't even need to look at it, she was sure that she had hit the target!
