Chapter 1255 Good Luck
"Aunt Li, someone's looking for you!" The village chief's grandson shouted at the door from outside the courtyard.

Shi Jia, who was tidying up the room, put down what she was doing and went out. She saw Wang Tieshan and Li Shitou talking. Looking further outside, she saw Wan Anlu standing in the courtyard.

She hurried over. "Young Master Wan? You were looking for me?" Wan Anlu had only brought one guard with him, who was carrying two large boxes.

“Yes, Aunt Li, this young master is here to see you,” Li Shitou said quickly.

"Okay, thanks, Stone." Shi Jia smiled, took a few dried fruits out of her pocket, and stuffed them into his hand. "Go have fun."

Li Shitou's eyes lit up. "Thank you, Aunt Li."

The children ran off quickly, and Shi Jia and Wang Tieshan led Wan Anlu into the main hall. "Young Master Wan, please have a seat. Our humble abode is simple, please forgive us."

"What are you saying, Madam Li?" Wan Anlu said with a smile. "I apologize for my unauthorized visit." He waved to the guard, who immediately placed the gift on the table. "It's just a small token of my appreciation, please accept it as compensation for my impetuous visit."

Shi Jia didn't even blink, deftly pouring tea for Wan Anlu. "Young Master Wan, no need for formalities. Just tell me what you need me for."

Upon hearing this, Wan Anlu's face immediately flushed red. He dared not look at Shi Jia again and stammered for a long time before finally saying, "Ahem, my father, mother, and wife were all very satisfied with the banquet you prepared yesterday, and they praised your cooking skills highly."

“My wife would love to eat your cooking every day.” He became increasingly embarrassed. “As you know, my wife is pregnant and has severe morning sickness. Before eating your food yesterday, she hadn’t eaten properly for over a month.”

As he spoke, his face became solemn, his tone grew heavy, and he even unconsciously added a hint of pleading, "Therefore, I have come today to sincerely invite you to serve as the cook in my Wan household."

After Wan Anlu finished speaking, he looked earnestly at Shi Jia.

Shi Jia frowned. "You want me to be your cook? Young Master Wan, are you sure you're not mistaken?"

Wan Anlu shook his head. "That's why I've come today. Madam Li, you don't know this, but my wife can only eat the food you make. She vomits as soon as she smells food made by anyone else."

Shi Jia was speechless at his exaggerated words. "Young Master Wan, it is true that pregnant women experience morning sickness, but I suppose your wife has already passed the period of morning sickness."

Wan Anlu continued to shake his head, "No, this morning, my wife was gagging during breakfast and only felt better after drinking the leftover chicken soup from last night."

“Therefore, Madam Li, I, Wan Anlu, earnestly request that you come to my Wan family to be our cook.” Wan Anlu said, standing up and bowing to Shi Jia. “Madam Li, if you agree, I will give you a small courtyard house in the inner city.”

He didn't have much cash on hand, but he had quite a few shops in the courtyard, some given to him by his grandmother and some bought for him by his mother.

"Give me a small courtyard house in the inner city? How big?" Shi Jia was surprised; houses in the inner city shouldn't be cheap. The Wan family is really showing their sincerity!

“The second courtyard has about one acre of land,” Wan Anlu said.

"Wow, it's so big!" Shi Jia was somewhat tempted.

"Has Lady Li agreed?" Wan Anlu asked happily.

"Uh, no," Shi Jia said with some difficulty.

"Why?" Wan Anlu asked anxiously. "Does Madam Li have any concerns?" Or perhaps he felt the price was too low, so he quickly added, "Don't worry, you'll receive a monthly salary even if you work as a cook in my household. I'll talk to my mother and offer you the highest possible monthly salary."

His gaze swept over the uneasy Wang Tieshan beside him, and the aunt and niece playing in the yard. "Besides, the countryside is not as convenient as the city. It will be more convenient for the children to go to school in the future."

Hearing this, Shi Jia stopped hesitating and said, "I can agree to work as your cook." "Really?" Wan Anlu was overjoyed.

“Wait a minute, but I won’t be staying at your house forever,” Shi Jia said. “How many months pregnant is your wife?”

"More than two months."

Shi Jia nodded upon hearing this, "How about this, I'll work as your cook for a year. The compensation will be the small courtyard in the inner city that you just mentioned, plus the cook's monthly salary. What do you think?"

Wan Anlu was initially delighted upon hearing this, but then somewhat disappointed. "Isn't a year too short?" he wondered.

Shi Jia shook her head. "It's not short. To be honest, I originally planned to move to the city after the New Year and open my own restaurant."

“Alright, then it’s settled.” Wan Anlu immediately made the final decision.

Shi Jia smiled.

"When does Madam Li plan to come to my Wan residence? My wife is longing for your delicious cooking. Why don't you come back with me today?" Wan Anlu asked hurriedly.

"Today is a bit rushed, let's do it tomorrow." Shi Jia understood Wan Anlu's feelings.

Wan Anlu opened his mouth, but in the end he didn't say anything. "That's fine then. I'll have someone tidy up the courtyard when I get back today, so it will be convenient for you to move in tomorrow."

Shi Jia nodded in satisfaction. This Wan Anlu was reliable. "Then I'll have to trouble you, Second Young Master. It's almost noon. If you don't mind, Second Young Master, please have lunch at my house."

Wan Anlu's eyes lit up. "Then I shall respectfully comply."

Lunch was a feast. To celebrate the upcoming acquisition of the courtyard, Shi Jia used the two pounds of pork belly she bought yesterday to make braised pork, stewed a yam and pork bone soup, stir-fried wild vegetables, and a small dish of spicy and sour pickles.

When Wan Anlu left, Shi Jia specially gave him a small dish of pickles to take back to Lu Xing'er.

After watching Wan Anlu's carriage leave, Shi Jiabian and Wang Tieshan went to Village Chief Li's house and told him about what had happened.

"You're going to the prefectural city to be a cook?" Aunt Lin was quite surprised when she heard this. She had eaten Shi Jia's cooking before, and it was indeed very delicious.

"Yes, I'll have to trouble you to look after things at home from now on, Auntie. I'll come back to visit when I have time," Shi Jia said with a smile, feeling a little sentimental. If she had known she would return to the city, she wouldn't have bothered to settle down in Dashan Village.

However, that's not entirely true. If she hadn't come to Dashan Village, she might have missed out on the ginseng and hawthorn cake, and naturally, she wouldn't have met Lu Xing'er.

"That's good. It's indeed more convenient in the city than in the countryside. Even if it's hard work, you can still support your family by becoming a cook." Aunt Lin looked at Shi Jia with a complicated expression.

After exchanging pleasantries for a while, Shi Jia said he had to go back to pack his belongings and left. News of Shi Jia's family moving to the city so soon after settling down quickly spread.

This naturally aroused the curiosity of many people, who crowded around to inquire about the situation. Shi Jiaguang received at least six groups of curious villagers in one afternoon.

Some were curious, while others were dissatisfied, even resentful. But before they could react, the next day, two large horse-drawn carriages arrived in the village, carrying Shi Jia and her family of four away from Dashan Village.

"This Li family member is truly blessed."
