Chapter 211 61 The Lost Victory
Chapter 211 61. The Lost Victory
The battle continued, the center of Hagrid Grave's line was penetrated, and the retreat turned into a rout. The soldiers staggered down the hillside, fleeing for their lives, but fortunately, the strict discipline supported them from throwing away their weapons.
The horn sounded, and the Nagor's army pursued the routs at a rhythmic pace, killing every rout they could catch.Even the battered Dark Rider joined in the pursuit, avenging the bloody ambush.
"Marus! Marus!" The Cold One knights cheered, shouting Marus' name.
"Where are you going now, my lord?" asked the young knight.
"Where else? Hagrid Graves, of course! Forward!" Malus said, pointing his bloodstained sword north.
It was already dusk, and the sky was covered with clouds, and it was already raining heavily. After the battle at the Blackwater Ferry, the soldiers of the Nagol crossed the river with little pause.Soldiers sat on the ground in the pouring rain. They were so tired that they could only pull up their cloaks for protection from the rain. They desperately needed some rest.
If the sky hadn't turned a more leaden gray with the rain, the soldiers could have seen the black smoke of Hagrid Grave from where they stood, but Malus loved the inclement weather and what it had to offer. Concealment.
Malus deduced that Hagrid Grave's Nightwatch knew of the disaster at the Blackwater Ferry, but would not have guessed how close the Nagol's army was to his walls. It's a paltry advantage, and he knows he'll take everything he can get.He suddenly rubbed his forehead absently.By the end of the day, the headache was getting worse, like something was pounding inside his skull.
Marus also knew that even if these exhausted soldiers could break through the city gate, it would not be enough to sweep the city.During the long afternoon he considered the issue from all angles, not even magic would work, since the Nightwatch could summon Hagrid Grave's sorceress to counteract the Nagol's sorceress' spell. Now that the element of surprise was certainly gone, he couldn't think of any way of getting an entire army into the city without challenge.
"Unless?" Marus suddenly thought of something, but he was still not sure, there were too few clues, and the current position was very dangerous. If the city sends troops against us, there will be no room for maneuver. The army would be trapped between forests and valleys, crushed to pieces, and he decided to go and see for himself.
Marus stood on the rain-soaked ground, looking dejectedly at the troops still gathering in the distance. He could clearly see the flag of Valajar, there were about ten thousand Duruccis gathering and waiting. What's worse is that he saw countless banners of dignitaries. It seems that the entire Hagrid Grave dignitaries have come out. Where did Isvar come from such a big influence? "
"Mother of the Night!" Malus exclaimed in a low voice. He pointed to a wet black and red banner, and he couldn't believe it. After seeing Nagalia, he asked directly, "Isvar even summoned the wizards and executioners of the Cain Temple?"
"You gave it to him!" Nagalia who came from behind said flatly.
"What do you mean?" Marus asked, staring at Nagalia.
"My brother, the whole city is talking about you now, and some of the wounded tell of your valor. You are like a Chaos Daemon, old Valahhal is dead, and so many mighty Dreadlords are out fighting, Now the whole city is trembling for your presence."
"It seems that I finally have a reputation. If we hadn't set up camp yesterday, we could have defeated the enemy at the Blackwater Ferry and arrived here before Isvar summoned his army. The sight before us proved our failure." Frustration burned a burning hole in Marus's heart, and it was constantly devouring his heart. He clenched his fists and said bitterly, pointing at the opposite flag.
"It is true that the city is talking about you, but the real situation is that the Hand of the Witch King, Drucci's chief executive, Dacius Hellbane, came to this city yesterday."
"Dacius? What is he doing here at this time? Mediation?" Marus said a little excitedly, and he suddenly thought of his experience of going to Karakarond to sell the spoils after the end of the trial voyage of Haksie In the ambush, he thought of the nobles of Krakalund who were jokingly watching him on the city wall, and Dacius was among them at the time. The gods began to treat him cruelly, no matter how hard he tried, the gods never smiled at him again.
"No, this battle has nothing to do with him. He came here just to test a strange device, at least that's what he said."
"What?" Marus couldn't believe it.
"But his arrival has mobilized these powerful children who had been on the sidelines before. I guess these powerful children want to get a share of the military exploits, maybe they can enter the eyes of the Witch King as a follower? Then take this opportunity to enter His Majesty the Witch King What about the field of vision?"
"Him? Hand of the Witch King? CEO? Mother of Darkness! Why! Why!" Unprecedented jealousy and hatred, he is the same age as Dacius, but his experience is very different.
Marus felt the mockery of fate at this moment, and the mockery was vividly displayed on him. Why was there that ambush?Because Dacius also participated in the trial that year, and Dacius also brought back a large number of Asur slaves. Dacius' elder brother didn't like to have his younger brother and a black blade compared to each other by the dignitaries. Because of this, it is full of irony and ridiculousness. Why hadn't he been peddling the spoils in Callond Cal?To Krakalund instead?Just because the latter can be sold at a higher price than the former! This seemed to be the beginning of his tragedy.
"Now we have no choice but to retreat! Even if we go all out, we can't fight against such a huge army." After a while, Marus, who recovered from his bitterness, carefully examined the enemy's deployment.
Nagalia did not respond to Marus, but silently heard the army still gathering in the distance.
"Iswar will likely wait for news of our entry into the valley, and then we will be surrounded like prey. The plan was a gamble from the beginning, and now that it has failed, we must grapple with the consequences."
"I don't know anything about the military affairs, now I have to go back." Nagalia still said flatly, as if all of this had nothing to do with her, and her purpose of coming here was just to take a look.
Marus was still standing there watching Hagrid Grave's army in the distance, his eyes widened suddenly and he froze. He turned around slowly to look for Nagalia's figure, but Nagalia's figure had already disappeared into the night.
"Mother of Darkness, the plan is right in front of me, but I didn't see it!" Marus said in pain, feeling like a fool, he suddenly realized that the entire military operation was a hoax from the very beginning!Far from being planned at all, this was an elaborate betrayal to cement the position of Nagalia's ally Isvar, the new Valajar's power.
A major military victory over the Nagol's forces would give Isvar much-needed legitimacy and prestige among Hagrid Grave's elite.
Malus rode Cold One all the way back to the valley, and when he reached the new camp, he heard the sound of hammers and the noise of the army camping in the valley.
The road was pitch black, and the train's Drucci and slaves were hard at work, pitching tents and distributing supper rations. The soldiers of the Nagor army staggered like drunks in the hustle and bustle of the camp construction. At this time, there was no discipline, and many soldiers simply lay on the wet ground and fell asleep directly.
"What are they thinking?" Marus looked at the chaos in front of him, trembling with frustration and anger, he strode into the camp with killing intent.
All Drutch camps were planned the same way, and Malus walked through the narrow alleys between the noble tents and found himself in a veritable city full of wagons full of supplies.
"What does this mean?" Marus saw eight fully armed Durucci standing there, holding unsheathed long swords in their hands, he immediately stopped in his tracks, drew out his long swords, and sternly said asked, his voice was as sharp as the long sword in his hand.
"Restore order! Correct order! You cruel bastard!" the leader also snapped.
Malus' hand clenched his sword hilt, and he took a step forward, trying to kill the leader who spoke, but the followers had already rushed towards him silently. He let out an angry roar, and then a fist hit the back of his head, and the world fell into darkness again.
Malus woke up screaming as the point of the knife drew a jagged line across his forehead. He was stripped naked, with his hands hanging from a thick tent pole, and Furlan was standing in front of him, looking at him with resentment.
A pair of large braziers were burning in the tent, and in the light of the lamps, Ferlan's battered face looked like a Chaos Demon.Malus could smell the stink of cheap booze on his breath, and he could see mad flames dancing in his dark pupils, and he smiled like a vicious child.
Marus looked around the tent, blood was streaming down his cheeks, Ferlan's followers and sycophants crowded the main room of the big tent, standing quietly, as if witnessing an execution.
"Hit me?" Furlan asked viciously.
Searing pain exploded across Malus' forehead, and he let out a cry of rage and ducked his head, trying to keep the dripping blood from splashing on his eyes.
"This is a mistake you will soon regret, I assure you. I have handed over the Knight of the Cold One to another Dreadlord for his loyalty and courage, and you will no longer have a place in this army A place. As a traitor, you will be summarily executed, but I will spend the night skinning you alive." Furlan raised the bayonet blade, watching the flames shining on the blade, he continued, "My only It's a pity that I have so little free time, you have no idea how much I long for this opportunity, Marus. I once dreamed of spending days slowly vivisectioning you, and I spent a fortune Lin built a special room in my tower where I can tear you apart, reassemble you, and tear you apart again, day after day, year after year!"
Grabbing Malus' chin, Furlan plunged the point of the thorn into the skin above Malus's right eye, and slowly, he began to cut open Malus's skin.
Marus clenched his teeth, trembling with pain.
"Have you ever drank the wine from the skull of a powerful man, my cousin? The age of the wine seeps into the bones, subtly altering the taste. In the morning, I will sit on Hagrid Grave's Nightwatch throne, drinking you Red wine in the skull, I can't wait to taste how it tastes now."
Malus gasped in pain, hot blood flowed from his eyes, and dull pain pounded in his head.
"I understand your plan now, the whole campaign was to lure Hagrid Grave's army. I've been thinking of every trick and tactic I know, but I can't figure it out, it's because of you Never intended to win in battle. I should have burrowed into the city and assassinated the Nightwatch for you, then you would emerge from the shadows to crown yourself with the Nightwatch crown. Nagalia cast a spell on my mind , distorting my memory to make me forget, isn’t it?” Malus said slowly after spitting.
"She...she said you won't remember!" Furlan took a step back and said with eyes widened in surprise.
"I don't need to recall, the clue is right in front of me, and once you get the crown, no one can take it away from you except by force or His Majesty the Witch King's acknowledgment. That's Drucci's law! Isvar accepts the status quo after some initial resistance, and by the time stronger lords return from the campaign, your power base has been consolidated and they will have no choice but to accept you."
"As an assassin, my life is of course forfeited, but if I survive this attempt, you can hand me over to His Majesty the Witch King for execution and gain tacit support for your rule." Malus said sharply.
"It's amazing. If you're not a ruthless and treacherous bastard, you'll be very charming." Nagalia swept through the tent like a cold wind, came behind Marus, and hung over Furlan's head like a vengeful ghost .She took off her mask and threw back the wet hood of her cloak, her eyes clearly visible, blazing with magical fire.
Ferlan flinched at the approach of Nagalia, who slapped him across the face so loudly that it nearly knocked him to his knees.
A subordinate roared and rushed towards Nagalia with a dagger in his hand. She only spoke one syllable, and the air in the tent froze instantly, and the servant fell dead at her feet.
"Get up, you idiot! Have you given up your remaining sanity?" Nagalia snapped at Furlan.
"He conspired on the battlefield!" Ferlan said angrily.
"Then you can do whatever you want? You stupid little fellow! Do you think this is how the Nightward behaves? Does the Nightward give in to his desires when the stakes are high? Do you deserve it? Barnes Son of Balak?"
"You dare to call me that? When I become a night watchman, I will..." Furlan retorted sharply.
"Ah, but you're not the Nightward yet, are you? Put him down and dress him, time is running out!"
Furlan glared at Nagalia viciously, and gestured to his followers, who untied Malus and brought him clothes.
"I'm sorry to disturb you, my lord, I'm looking for Lord Malus." The entrance door of the tent was unceremoniously pulled aside, and a dozen cold-faced Cold One knights squeezed into the tent. The leading young knight glanced at him, saluted Ferlan respectfully, and then spoke fluently.
"Master Malus is no longer your lord." Ferlan interrupted.
"This joke is not funny, my lord, Lord Malus led us to victory at the Blackwater Ferry and slew Hagrid Grave's Dreadlord in battle. How absurd is this!? Think of how it will be in How much dissent has been caused in the ranks, not to mention that this is an insult to your father, Admiral Barnes handed over the command to him from the very beginning, I did not expect my general to have such an elegant sense of humor." Unexpectedly Unexpectedly, the young knight smiled, and then began to jokingly say.
Furlan could only stare at the young knight, his jaw turning in frustration.
"The Knights of the Cold One are awaiting your orders, my lord. May I have your armor?" the young knight turned to Malus and asked.
"Forgive me, Master Furlan. These people are tired and hungry. If they wait too long, they will easily become... unruly." Marus glared at Furlan and said with a smile.
"Sorry for the delay, my lord. We searched almost all the tents in the camp before we found you," said the young knight as soon as he stepped out of the tent door.
"No apologies, you've done a good job. We must hurry now if we are to avoid disaster. Call all the officers and have them come to my tent immediately. We must get out of here!" The rain stung Malus' wound , but he turned his face to the sky, savoring the pain.He took a deep breath and concentrated his thoughts.
"Shall we retreat?" the young knight asked, frowning.
"We had no choice, this battle was never meant to be successful. It was just the foreshadowing of a larger plan to draw Hagrid Grave's warriors out of the city, and it has succeeded. If we don't Leave the valley and the army will be destroyed."
"You're talking about a mutiny. A real mutiny! Forlan intends to stay and fight, doesn't he?" the young knight asked seriously.
"No, he's trying to sneak away while you're being killed. You either stay here and die, or try your luck and get back aboard the Nagol."
The young knight nodded and left with the Cold One knights.
"See how Nagalia and Furlan plan to send troops behind me to persecute me?" Malus walked in the opposite direction, following the methodical layout of the camp until he reached where his tent was.He was circling quickly in his mind, trying to formulate a plan to withdraw the troops under Iswar's nose in the dead of night.
Suddenly, the sound of horns in the distance echoed in the night sky, and the night air trembled with the sound of horns and battles.
Marus, who had already reached the tent, stopped, gasping for breath and tasting the bitterness in his mouth. There was something frightening about the echoing horns, and Isvar found the camp, and Isvar decided not to wait for dawn to launch a surprise attack on the weary and scattered Nagol's army.
"Brother, it's time." Before Marus could react, Nagalia walked out of the darkness while speaking.
"It's indeed time, it's time to retreat, sister, the army is in serious danger." Marus turned his back to Nagalia, and tried to take out the sawtooth dagger at his waist while speaking.
"Army? The purpose of the army is to sacrifice. I have another important task for you. Turn around!" Nagalia ordered.
Marus turned around helplessly, he found that his body was out of control.
Nagalia stood not far away, with more than a dozen followers in black robes standing beside her.
Ferlan stood aside, holding a long sword in his hand, his face contorted with anger and fear.
"You will do exactly as I say, come with me!" Nagalia continued to order, narrowing her glowing eyes.
Malus could feel the coldness of Nagalia's smile.
The pain passed through Malus as Nagalia clung tightly to him.A terrifying aura swelled in his chest, like poisonous snakes wrapped around his heart, and his feet began to move uncontrollably and automatically.
Iswar's army has gone on the offensive.
Nagalia led Malus and her retinue westward, out of the camp, into a dense forest at the bottom of the valley.
Malus followed his sister like a well-trained dog, listening helplessly to the cries and screams of the dying army.He prayed to the Night Mother that the Knights of the Cold One would escape, or die less.He couldn't stop moving, no matter how hard he tried.Wherever Calia went, no amount of will, anger or fear could keep his feet from moving automatically.
The team walked for a long time in the forest, and came to a huge granite boulder rising from the ground. The block of granite, the size of a cabin, cut a small clearing in the middle of a tangle of trees.
The rain fell incessantly, and the clear spots on the granite glistened.
Najalia's squires spread out around the granite, some in prayer poses and others standing guard around the clearing, while she summoned a flame and began examining the granite.
"Sister, I've been wondering how our illustrious brother assembled his forces so quickly to counter the Nagor's army? Admiral Barnes Baller had every reason to believe that before we passed the Blackwater River , we won't see any serious resistance and I dare say he knows Hagrid Graves and his leaders as well as anyone."
"It seems that Isvar is a more efficient leader than anyone imagined." Nagalia said absently.
"Or have you been in touch with him? Did you warn him of the Nagol's plan? Also, why didn't you cast magic today? Where's the Nagol sorceress?!"
"Is what he said true?" Ferlan stared at Nagalia with wide-eyed eyes.
"Why would I do this, you little fool?"
"None of this is going according to plan! You never said that my army would be destroyed! Without a loyal army, how can I control this city?" Ferlan was angry, and he roared.
"I believe you have been betrayed, my cousin."
"Shut up! You're just trying to provoke us and make us hostile to each other!" Furlan slowly turned and looked at Marus and roared, his right eye began to twitch.
"She and Iswar have been allies for years and they are Slaanesh! Didn't she tell you? I thought you two were engaged! Don't you Nagols ever talk to your future wives ?” Seeing the horrified expression gradually appearing on Ferlan’s face, Marus felt a burst of joy, and he laughed in front of Ferlan.
"Is this true?" Furlan said with a pale face and horror.
"Oh yes, my brother was right," said Nagalia, still absent-mindedly, running her finger across an indentation in the granite.
"She asked me to kill the Nightward, but who else would benefit from his death? Ysvard, of course! He will be hailed as a hero after he destroys your army. Then when he returns to Hagrid ·Grave and learned of the death of the Nightward, who will oppose him when he succeeds the Nightward? Maybe only the hand of the Witch King, I think you will be handed over so that he can parade you in the victory celebration .”
"Shut up! Shut up! Nagalia, tell him! He is wrong! You will never be able to rule next to Isvar, only I can make you queen!" Furlan had lost his mind and was shaking with anger.
"Marus, kill Ferlan!" Nagalia said domineeringly.
"You lying whore! You want to kill me, so come on! I trained with the best duelists on the Nagol..." Furlan screamed in fright, but he didn't say anything It was interrupted by the dull sound of steel hitting the body.
Ferlan's eyes fell on the dagger handle protruding from his neck, his last breath escaped from his lips, he let out a horrified sigh, and fell directly to the ground.
"Impressive throw!" Nagalia commented.
After the evaluation, Nagalia chanted in a low voice, and a blue light flashed.A large hole has emerged in the granite, which appears to curve downward into the ground.
"Let's go home! Brother."

Brother."
