Chess Mage of Faerûn

Chapter 113 Hairy People and Hairy Balls

Chapter 113 Hairy People and Hairy Balls
This tomb is quite old and has never been looted. It contains a lot of valuables, including a magic staff as a burial item. This trip can be considered quite fruitful.

Unfortunately, things often go wrong because of these tempting luxuries, or rather, because of the evil in human nature.

The teammates who had just been fighting side by side suddenly started arguing over the division of spoils. Despite Kegan’s repeated attempts to defend himself, claiming that his contributions had been ignored and that the other side was ganging up on him, his little schemes could not be hidden from Zhang Yuan.

Putting aside Kegan's own subjective conclusions, the gist of the matter was simply that the dwarf felt he had taken the lead and withstood the attacks of the two monsters, so he should rightfully get a bigger share.

Those whom Kegan described as "those kobolds who cower in the back shooting arrows and only know how to circle around and ambush" had a different view. The five of them were long-term partners, so how could they let a temporary outsider take the lion's share?

Ultimately, excluding outsiders and bullying the weak are common human flaws, and of course, Kegan's slightly larger share was indeed just a "little bit" more.

Under Zhang Yuan's repeated questioning, the guy finally revealed that he had taken nearly half of the spoils.

Tsk! What a huge appetite, what a useless squad. Even with all five of them rushing in, they couldn't defeat Kegan. The biggest achievement was leaving Kegan with a deep, bone-piercing knife wound, but the price was that one person had several ribs broken by a shield, and another person was slashed at the knee, almost resulting in amputation.

Seeing that they couldn't gain anything, the group took their injured companions and more than half of their belongings and ran away. Kegan, who already had short legs and was injured, was too weak to give chase.

Zhang Yuan, who had heard the whole story, didn't take it seriously. This kind of ragtag adventure group was not even comparable to bandits. Just like the moss in the corner of the wall, a lot of them would pop up from time to time. After all, the vitality of the adventurer industry was as vigorous as weeds. Even if a few fell, more would emerge.

Moreover, Zhang Yuan is no longer the weak and helpless otaku he was when he first arrived in Faerûn. He is about to enter the realm of intermediate mage on the path of arcane magic, and his melee skills can be described as quite advanced. He is now qualified to face these entanglements, which he sees as mere playful banter, with a calm demeanor.

"Alright, you'd better behave yourself." Too lazy to listen to Kegan's nagging any longer, Zhang Yuan stood up, uttered a few characters, and made several hand seals. In less than half the time, he cast the level one monster summoning spell.

"I'm sure I can charm you."

The Enchantress, also known as the Little Deer, is now available as a chess piece.

The half-human, half-deer summon left Kegan speechless.

"This, this is? A centaur?" Kegan, who considered himself quite knowledgeable, had never seen this creature before. Its pretty and cute upper body resembled that of an elven girl with antlers, while its lower body was that of a sika deer. Kegan could only think of centaurs as the creature that resembled it.

Unable to answer the question well, Zhang Yuan simply said, "You can call her Little Deer," and then had the Enchantress use her chess piece skill: Rejuvenation.

A group of radiant, butterfly-like healing sprites were summoned by the deer. After circling her once, they flew towards Kegan, the only injured person present.

The oblivious dwarf wasn't worried at all. Instead, he curiously reached out to touch the little elves, but his fingers passed right through them, as if they were just a blur of light.

The little elves flitted and danced around Kegan's wound, and whenever these little creatures entered his wound, the dwarf felt a warm and comfortable sensation, as if he were soaking in warm water.

About a minute later, the little sprite turned into light dust and disappeared without a trace. When Kegan removed his bandages, he was pleasantly surprised to find that the wound, which was originally almost deep enough to expose the bone, was now just a shallow bloodstain.

After a slight movement of his arm, Kegan, finding himself mostly healed, tossed the bandage into the trash can. "Mage, you've really impressed old Kegan! I never knew you had this trick up your sleeve. You're just as good as those guys from the temple!" the dwarf shouted as soon as he recovered. "Let's go find those bastards and settle the score!"

However, the dwarf's originally loud voice grew softer and softer under the calm gaze of a certain mage, until it was barely audible.

“Mr. Kegan Sweet Wine, I didn’t heal you for this pointless argument. Besides, didn’t you achieve your goal? You got almost half of your harvest, and you even taught the other party a lesson. What else do you have to complain about?”

"Alright, alright, you're in charge. You bunch of mages always find a way to make things difficult for this poor old dwarf, Kegan." Kegan didn't know why, but when he saw this guy he considered a newbie, a voice in his heart kept warning him not to really provoke him. Trusting his intuition, which had saved his life several times, the dwarf decisively followed his heart's guidance.

"But wait a minute, I still need to deal with these spoils of war."

“It’s alright. Come find me at the Feld Inn after you’re done. Here, take this.” With that, Zhang Yuan tossed a crystal to Kegan: “This is a communication crystal. I’ll contact you myself.”

The communication crystal is actually a two-way communication device, but unfortunately, that dwarf is completely ignorant of magic, so there's no point in expecting it.

After saying that, Zhang Yuan turned and left, leaving Kaigen looking at the crystal in his hand with curiosity, seemingly eager to test its hardness.

After a relaxing two days in Belgost, Zhang Yuan is now really having a blast.

Savor the fine wines and delicacies of various taverns; listen to the songs and ballads of wandering poets and street singers; watch the curvaceous dancers, dressed in passionate attire, perform on stage, their already thin clothes appearing even more transparent under their sweat.

The whistling of a group of old lechers in the audience rose and fell, but Zhang Yuan was different. How could a mage do such a tasteless thing?
Far away from the group of lecherous old men making a fuss, Zhang Yuan sat alone in a corner at the back, casually casting a Pengyu Angel's Eye on himself, and began to observe carefully.

Happy times always pass so quickly; two days went by in the blink of an eye. In the blink of an eye, he saw a dwarf with a big beard peeking in his direction, as if searching for something.

Zhang Yuan sighed, and without bothering with any communication crystals, walked directly towards Kegan:
"Have you finished taking care of your business?"

Kegan, who was still peeking out, paused when he heard the mage's voice and immediately looked over. He then stood on tiptoe and waved.

"Alright, alright, I see you." Zhang Yuan, who was about to say that even if you stood on tiptoe, you weren't that tall, swallowed his words out of consideration for the other person's feelings.

"How about it, made a small fortune?" Judging from Kegan's excited expression, he must have earned quite a bit.

"Of course, Moradin, that's a staff."

"Oh~"

Zhang Yuan, being a mage himself and not lacking in magical items, showed little interest. This response left Kegan feeling like he had a lump in his throat that he couldn't spit out.
