Chapter 137 Midnight Hotel
Chapter 137 Midnight Hotel
"Wife, let me hear our son's voice again."
“I know it can’t talk yet, I just miss it.”
"Has it stopped making a sound? How much time has passed?"
"Don't cry, honey! I'm not yelling at you. It's okay. I'll bring another son home in a few days."
"Hugs. How could I bear to leave you alone in such a dark place? You need my company."
"Don't cry! Don't worry, this son is definitely your biological child. I already know you hid him in the hotel."
In the dimly lit hotel reception area, a man in a raincoat was half-squatting next to a telephone, muttering something to himself, seemingly on the phone.
His tone was very gentle, and it sounded like his wife was on the other end of the phone.
The raincoat brim covered most of his face, and the man's voice was full of love. He would occasionally whine to his wife on the phone, and they seemed to be very affectionate.
The clock on the wall pointed to one in the morning. The man still hadn't hung up the phone. He kept comforting his still crying wife. Just then, footsteps sounded at the hotel entrance.
A young man with a great physique and a slightly decadent yet handsome appearance, carrying a spirit altar in his arms, entered the hotel.
The man in the raincoat casually wiped the blood from his palm and reluctantly hung up the phone. He looked at the young man who had come to check into the hotel at midnight: "Do you need a room?"
"Are you the boss?"
"Okay." The man took out a key from under the counter: "Give me your name, we require registration for guests here."
"Meng Chang'an."
"Chang'an? A good name." The man handed the key to the young man: "Room 202, check out at this time tomorrow night."
"Is that all? I haven't paid yet?"
"Someone has already paid for you. Get some rest and have sweet dreams."
"Thank you, you've had a long day too." The young man was very polite, but he didn't leave immediately after taking the key. Instead, he looked at the hotel wall, where there was a billboard covered with various advertisements and notices.
There are lost and found notices, as well as missing person notices.
After looking around for a while, the young man also found a job posting for a tutor to help his child with extra lessons.
"Boss, could you please ask who left this message? Is the child who needs tutoring a student from Yimin Middle School across the street?"
"He's a student at that school, but he dropped out for some reason. His mother has been trying to get him back to school. She left her contact information to find a tutor so her child wouldn't fall too far behind." The shop owner's voice was very gentle, like that of a very kind person.
"Does that mother and child also live here?"
“They live in 301. If you want to apply for a tutoring job, I can call them to let them know.”
"Thank you for your help." The young man walked toward the stairs, through the musty-smelling corridor, and glanced back when he reached the stairs.
The man in the raincoat stood behind the counter, still staring at him.
"Good night."
As the young man climbed the creaking wooden stairs to the second floor, he heard the man's voice coming from the first floor again; it seemed he was calling his wife again.
"Are they really a couple? This hotel is a little different from what I expected."
The young man holding the altar was Han Fei. He originally planned to attack the shop owner as soon as he entered, killing as many as he could.
But when he actually met the shop owner, he realized something was wrong.
The shop owner seemed to be possessed; his condition was just like that of the one-eyed shop assistant who had been controlled by the paper doll.
Seeing this, Han Fei felt he shouldn't alert the enemy. Instead of revealing Ku and Li Zai hiding in the altar, he pretended to be a guest at an inn.
Use the key to open room 202.
Han Fei shook his head at the altar in his arms, then looked around.
The furniture inside was very worn out. Next to the small television was a teapot. Lifting the lid revealed several damp pieces of paper money stuffed inside.
"You never know what's been brewing in a hotel's teapot."
After carefully inspecting the windows and bed, Han Fei found nothing wrong. He only saw some scraps of paper money in the corner of the room and in the wardrobe.
"I always felt that this room was prepared for the dead, but this deep world is actually quite similar to the underworld."
Han Fei sat on the bed and quickly organized the information: "The hotel has three floors, with four rooms on each floor. Room 101 on the first floor has the words 'Manager' on it."
Looking at the key in his hand, Han Fei listened intently. The hotel had poor soundproofing, and he could faintly hear teeth grinding in the adjacent room 201.
“The hotel isn’t very big, so the fireflies should be hidden in one of the rooms.” Closing his eyes, Han Fei recalled, “The person who threw the flowerpot at me lived on the third floor. Judging from the room layout on the second floor, she should be living in room 302, right above me.”
Standing up, Han Fei could hear snoring coming from above him: "Sleeping quite soundly."
"Ring ring! Ring ring!..."
The phone on the bedside table suddenly rang. Han Fei frowned slightly; he had previously thought the phone was just for decoration.
"If I don't answer, will it keep ringing?"
Han Fei stared at the phone and noticed something else interesting: when the phone rang, the grinding of teeth and snoring all disappeared.
Han Fei picked up the phone but didn't speak.
In the dead silence, a woman's voice came through the phone: "Please, stop torturing me, just kill me, just kill me already..."
The woman's voice was choked with sobs; she seemed extremely weak.
"Tell me your location." Han Fei's voice was low, but his words were very clear.
"Stop torturing me, just kill me, just kill me..." The woman kept repeating this, but just then, the sound of chains falling came from the other end of the phone, followed by the sound of a door being pushed open, and then the shop owner's voice came from the phone: "Honey, who are you talking to on the phone?"
The call was immediately disconnected. Han Fei's eyes darted around, and he decisively put the phone back where it was. Then he quietly opened the door to room 202.
He didn't know where the shop owner had hidden the woman, but he knew the shop owner was definitely not at the counter now.
Han Fei left the room as quickly as possible and went downstairs.
The first floor was completely empty; there wasn't a single person there.
Without saying a word, Han Fei immediately took all the remaining keys from the counter, and then he started rummaging through the counter, also putting the registration form that the shop owner had placed on the table into his pocket.
After making sure he hadn't forgotten anything, Han Fei quickly ran back.
He walked very quietly, and would eavesdrop on the sounds inside each room as he passed by.
Having successfully returned to room 202, Han Fei obtained six keys with room numbers written on them.
He wrote down the number on the key and then opened the registration form.
Meng Chang'an's name was written at the very end. He turned the page and found Yinglong's name directly.
"Yinglong checked into room 304?" Han Fei checked the keys he had borrowed, but there was no key to room 304 among them. "Yinglong hasn't checked out, so is he still in room 304?"
As Han Fei was reviewing the registration form, footsteps suddenly echoed in the corridor outside, and at the same time, the system's voice sounded in Han Fei's mind.
"Attention player ID 0000! You have successfully triggered a G-rank normal mission—Find the missing shop assistant!"
"Find the missing employee: Your only employee is missing! Finding him will greatly increase your friendship level!"
"Attention Player 0000! You have successfully triggered the G-rank hidden quest – Midnight Hotel!"
"Midnight Hotel: The owner of this hotel once wrote four words in blood on the billboard: 'No Entry for Strangers!' But as the owner disappeared, increasingly strange and terrifying things began to happen inside the hotel."
