Chapter 165 Turning Back

Chapter 165 Turning Back

Blood dripped from the cracks in the wall, a faint smell of blood filled the air, and the hallway was eerily quiet.

Han Fei had no idea what happened in the dormitory building after he logged off, but a very ominous feeling crept into his heart.

Not daring to linger, Han Fei cautiously walked downstairs. When he reached the corner between the third and second floors, he vaguely heard some kind of sound coming from the fourth floor.

It looked like a large bucket of minced meat had been dumped on the ground, or a box of live fish had been thrown into the stairwell.

The dull thud of chunks of meat hitting the ground repeatedly was terrifying.

The stench of blood in the air grew stronger. Han Fei covered his mouth and nose and quickened his pace, but when he reached the second floor and looked down, he abruptly stopped in his tracks.

A person was standing at the corner between the first and second floors.

He stood there in the stairwell, his body slightly distorted, his back to Han Fei, so his face was not visible.

"Something's wrong."

Walking alone in a strange and eerie building is a terrifying experience, but what's even more terrifying is suddenly seeing someone in that eerie building.

Without rushing forward, Han Fei retreated little by little.

“There are staircases on both sides of the dormitory building. I don’t need to waste my time with him. The most important thing is to make sure Zhang Guanxing is safe.”

Han Fei intended to avoid the other person, but when he turned around to cross the second-floor corridor, he saw a person standing in the middle of the corridor.

He stood with his back to Han Fei, motionless.

"I go?"

Staring at the other person's back, Han Fei slowly realized the problem: the distance between him and the person with their back to him was gradually decreasing!

"This guy is different from the ghosts I've encountered before."

Han Fei always believed in the principle of "I will not attack unless attacked," especially when his own safety was not guaranteed.

He slowly shifted his gaze and glanced back into the stairwell.

The figures that were originally standing at the corner between the first and second floors have disappeared.

But when he turned around again, the figure standing in the second-floor corridor seemed to be a little closer to him.

Han Fei recalled a game he played in the orphanage when he was a child, called "Red Light, Green Light." It was something like this: whenever you turned around, something would come closer to you until it was right behind you.

With his eyes fixed on the figure, Han Fei backed into the stairwell, supporting himself against the wall as he descended.

The stairs were slippery from the bloodstains and filth, the strange noises from the fourth floor hadn't disappeared, and the stench of blood in the air was becoming increasingly pungent.

In this situation, Han Fei maintained a safe distance from the figure whose back was to him.

He slowly moved his body and finally made it to the first-floor corridor.

The smell of blood was strongest on the first floor of the entire dormitory building.

The dormitory building's main entrance was covered with all sorts of things: unfinished rolls of paper, clothes stained with blood, and a jumble of random talismans.

The dormitory manager's room near the main entrance also suffered damage. All the windows were smashed, the previously clean and tidy sheets were covered with bloody handprints, the malicious "thank you letter" was torn to shreds, and the floor was littered with trampled fruit, which looked rather disgusting.

Han Fei initially planned to go to the dormitory manager's office to look for the key, but now that he was being followed by that figure, he dared not be distracted.

Staring at the figure, Han Fei touched the wall and backed away in the first-floor corridor.

He maintained a safe distance from the figure.

Silently counting the rooms next door, when Han Fei arrived at the door of room 104, he gently knocked: "Zhang Guanxing? Are you in the room?"

After Han Fei finished speaking, there was no sound coming from the room; it was deathly silent.

"Is something bad going to happen?" Standing in the corridor like this is very dangerous. Han Fei stared intently at the figure behind him and whispered, "Guanxing, it really is me. I once told you that whether you are a boy or a girl, you are all my students. I will not give up on anyone."

After Han Fei said those words, footsteps were heard inside the room, and the door was opened a crack.

"Teacher! It really is you!" Zhang Guanxing hid behind the door, his expression changing from unease to excitement in an instant, as if he had seen a long-lost family member.

"Being cautious is a good habit, and you did a great job." Han Fei led the black python into room 104, and only after closing the door did he breathe a sigh of relief.

"Teacher, I really didn't expect to see you again!" Zhang Guanxing was very happy to see Han Fei, and it was hard to fake that kind of surprise.

"During my absence, has anything terrible happened outside?" Han Fei leaned against the door, listening intently to the sounds in the corridor.

“They’ve gone mad, everyone in this dormitory building has completely gone mad.” A hint of fear appeared in Zhang Guanxing’s eyes: “There are screams and cries everywhere in the corridors, and all sorts of strange things have appeared. Some dormitory doors were forcibly opened, and none of the students inside were able to escape.”

"How did you survive such a dangerous night?" Han Fei asked, somewhat surprised.

“I’ve been hiding in my dorm room. Last night, someone came and knocked on the door. They were mimicking students calling for help. I almost went to open the door a few times, but I held back in the end.”

"they?"

"I stayed in my dorm room the whole time and didn't dare to go out, but I could hear the voices of three children arguing and cursing at each other. They were vicious and cunning."

"It's Ma Manjiang's three kids causing trouble in the chaos." Han Fei wasn't worried about the three kids; he was more concerned about Ma Manjiang himself.

The police said that Ma Manjiang had disappeared a long time ago, and Han Fei didn't know if he might encounter Ma Manjiang in the game.

“Those three kids seemed to be specifically targeting students of Yimin Private Academy. They seemed to be able to sense the location of all the students. I must have escaped because I was expelled.” Zhang Guanxing was smart and cautious. He was a promising talent; he had simply gone down the wrong path before.

When did the unrest outside stop?

“A few hours ago, I think.” Zhang Guanxing thought for a moment and then added, “Before the riot stopped, the dormitory building’s main door was opened once, and it seems like something else got in.”

"Something new has come in?" Han Fei thought of the figure he had encountered in the hallway: "Guanxing, have you ever heard any strange tales like 'turning your back to someone' at school? I just saw someone standing with their back to me in the hallway, and they kept following me."

"I heard a freshman in the first year of junior high talk about it, but I thought it was just a story!"

"Did you talk about it with the first-year junior high students?" Han Fei thought that the first-year junior high students Zhang Guanxing was referring to were Jin Sheng: "Tell me the details."

“There was a senior at our school who really liked a girl in school. The girl liked him too at first, so they got together.”

"The senior's family background is very bad. His parents are divorced, and his father has a serious tendency to violence and often beats and scolds him. For the senior, his only family is not his father, but his girlfriend."

He shared his grievances and pain with the girl, and he vowed to make her happy.

"But later, when the school teachers found out that he was dating at school, it caused a huge uproar. In the end, the senior was willing to drop out of school and said that it was all his fault."

"After dropping out of school, the senior still kept in touch with that girl. They agreed to work hard and get married when they had stable jobs in the future."

"The words spoken at that age are the purest and most genuine."

"But the good times didn't last long. Not long after, the senior could no longer contact the girl."

"He secretly went into the school, wanting to find out the truth. If the girl really didn't like him anymore, he wouldn't force her."

"Amidst the ongoing entanglement, the girl's friend handed the senior a note, hoping he could come to the teaching building that evening."

"The senior student rushed to the teaching building late at night without thinking much about it. No one knows what happened that night. People only found a body in front of the teaching building the next day."

"The senior fell from the roof. He lay on the ground with his spine broken and his neck twisted 180 degrees. His eyes were fixed on the top floor of the teaching building."

“From that day on, some students would occasionally see a person standing in the hallway with their back to them at night.”

After hearing Zhang Guanxing's story, Han Fei was somewhat puzzled.

He looked Zhang Guanxing up and down and was surprised to find that the word "hatred" on Zhang Guanxing's arm had disappeared.
