Chapter 326 The Mission Reward: Zhuang Wen's Humanity

Chapter 326 The Mission Reward: Zhuang Wen's Humanity

The yellowed talisman paper was written with blood-red characters, and black symbols were hidden under large pieces of peeling paint. Ashes from burning paper money were scattered everywhere in the living room, and various photos were littered on the floor.

Han Fei picked up the closest photo to him. The photo showed a woman chained up, her ankles rusted together with the chains.

Her lower abdomen was slightly swollen. She lowered her head, her hair covering her face. She supported her body with one hand and reached the camera with the other, seemingly very reluctant to be photographed like this.

A blackened blanket, pale skin; thick chains, slender arms; the subject desperately tries to block the camera, but the photographer continues filming without restraint.

It was just a photograph, yet everything was so vivid and jarring.

"Oh!"

The sound of metal clanging came from the bedroom. The thin rope on the door hinge was pulled, and the soul bell hanging on it jingled. A man's hoarse and strange voice came from inside the room.

The man's voice was mixed with another woman's scream, which seemed to tear her heart and lungs apart; the pain could not be simply measured by words.

Holding the photo in his hand, Han Fei slowly moved around the living room. He was unsure whether the ghost who jumped off the building was in the room.

"This room is very eerie."

The room was filled with strange and terrifying words, and the walls were covered with runes meant to appease the dead. Most eerie of all, the furniture inside seemed to be arranged according to some kind of pattern, like an open coffin.

Han Fei entered both the Dead Building game and Room 1244 in reality, but neither place was as oppressive and despairing as the rooms in the Deep World.

As soon as Han Fei stepped into the room, he immediately sensed its difference. Every piece of furniture in the room seemed to be attached to something terrifying and heavy.

The screams continued, the Soul Bell was driving him mad, but the man's chanting speed increased.

Avoiding the photos on the floor, Han Fei quietly approached the master bedroom.

A hair-woven doll for warding off evil spirits hung above the door. The bedroom door wasn't closed properly, and Han Fei stood outside peeking through the crack.

The largest bedroom in the house was decorated like a funeral hall. A photo of Zhuang Wen's mother was hanging on the wall. Zhuang Wen, who was not very old at the time, was crying and kneeling on the ground. Her head was being held down by a middle-aged man with an extremely ugly appearance. The man was writing some words to ward off evil spirits on her back with a pen.

As the man wrote, he muttered some strange words. His pronunciation was somewhat unusual, and Han Fei could only understand part of it. The gist of it was that the ghost that was attached to Zhuang Wen's mother had moved to Zhuang Wen's body, and that Zhuang Wen was an evil spirit.

The scene before him was breathtaking. After seeing the man take out a slender carving knife, Han Fei knew that it was probably just a false memory, but he still pushed open the door to stop him.

But just as Han Fei pushed open the door, a girl's voice suddenly sounded behind him.

"who are you?"

Han Fei, who was in a state of high tension, was startled and immediately turned his head.

A little girl stood behind him. She was very cute, especially her eyes, which were bright and gentle, as if she were very curious about everything in the world.

"I want to save that girl who was being bullied," Han Fei said truthfully, stating what he had just wanted to do.

The girl looked puzzled after hearing this; "Are there any other girls in the house?"

"Isn't she right here..." Han Fei looked at the master bedroom again. The photo hanging in the mourning hall was no longer of Zhuang Wen's mother, but of Zhuang Wen herself.

This black and white photo is different from all the photos on the living room floor. At least Zhuang Wen in the memorial photo looks normal.

Below the portrait were two life-size paper figures covered with various kinds of writing.

In front of the paper figure, a man and a woman were lying down.

A middle-aged man who looked to be in his fifties and was extremely ugly was carving something on them. The carvings were similar to the writing on the paper figures. It seemed that the middle-aged man wanted the paper figures to die in place of the man and woman.

Muttering the words he had once spoken to Zhuang Wen, the middle-aged man slowly took out a slender carving knife. Dipping it in cinnabar, he carved auspicious characters onto the body of the man and woman.

The man and woman kept screaming in agony, and the middle-aged man's ugly face was also full of pain, but he still had to do it.

Despite seeing the exorcist's children being punished, Han Fei's expression remained very serious.

The little girl next to him was a bit confused. She thought Han Fei didn't understand the key point and said haltingly, "They are all bad people. Don't be nice to them."

"My distress isn't because I sympathize with them; it's just that the thought of that woman being treated the same way makes me uncomfortable." Han Fei silently closed the master bedroom door, making sure to check on the other rooms while chatting with the girl.

He soon discovered something very interesting: after pushing open a door, Han Fei would see Zhuang Wen's painful memories and all the terrible things she had experienced.

However, every time the little girl appears, the scene inside the house changes, leaving only the scene of the exorcist's family being punished.

The heart chambers of the dead building contain the memories of the deceased, but the little girl seems unable to see those terrible memories.

After touring all the rooms, Han Fei stopped at the balcony door, recalling his conversation with the child in the Dead Building game.

Turning to look at the innocent little girl, Han Fei opened his mouth, but ultimately did not ask the question that was pre-set in the Dead Tower game.

Raising his arm, Han Fei patted the little girl's head: "Are you really happy to be here, seeing all this every day?"

Blinking, the girl didn't quite understand Han Fei's meaning. She thought for a long time, then shook her head.

"Since you're unhappy, would you like to leave here and see a different world? There are many things outside the door that you've never seen before. I can't guarantee they'll all be wonderful, but at least some of them can bring you true happiness." Han Fei couldn't undo what had already happened in the real world; all he could do was pat the child's head from the depths of the world.

"Outside the house?" The girl hesitated. Just as she began to waver, the densely packed talismans on the balcony door suddenly began to tremble, and then one of the talismans fell off.

As the leaves fall, it signifies autumn. Han Fei knew that the source of the ghost's hatred lay on the balcony, so he immediately took the little girl's hand and retreated.

The soul bells hanging all over the room rang wildly, and talismans fell off the balcony door one by one. The balcony door, which looked quite ordinary before, began to tremble, as if it might shatter at any moment.

"This room is too dangerous, I'll take you away first." Picking up the little girl, Han Fei didn't go to the balcony, but ran straight out of room 1244!

As he left the room, a system notification sounded in his mind: "Attention player number 0000! The reward for the mission you selected in room 1244 is—Zhuang Wen."

"Zhuang Wen's child died. Unable to accept the fact, she treated her last bit of humanity as her child, and this last bit of humanity may be the real Zhuang Wen. This should be a mother's instinct. Even if she becomes a monster who hates everything, she is willing to leave the last bit of beauty to her child."

"Attention! You have robbed Zhuang Wen of her last shred of humanity. You will face Zhuang Wen's relentless pursuit forever, without time or place restrictions! It will be a fight to the death!"

Before the system notification had even faded, all the talismans on the balcony door turned to ashes, and a suppressed, terrifying voice rang out from the balcony doorway.

"If I catch you, you're dead!"
