Chapter 337 The Whereabouts of Feng Ziyu
Chapter 337 The Whereabouts of Feng Ziyu
"Monsters? What monsters have you seen here?" Han Fei didn't completely believe the woman's words. It would be extremely difficult for an ordinary housewife to survive in a wardrobe full of monsters; it was definitely not something that could be done simply by being lucky.
“Those deformed arms you encountered before are the most common monsters here. They’re like parasites in closets, constantly rummaging through the pockets of clothes for anything left behind. They seem to be able to extract the memories of the clothes’ owners from those items and feed on them. I call them multi-handed worms, and sometimes I call them scavengers.”
"Besides the scavengers who pick up fragments of memory, there are some monsters that are similar to humans, or rather, they were originally human, but they have become confused and lost their self-awareness. I call them the Lost Ones."
“A long time ago, I followed a lost person through a wardrobe. After following him for a long time, the lost person suddenly disappeared. Where he left, I only found a bloodstained piece of clothing that looked very similar to the clothes he had worn.”
"Neither the multi-handed worms nor the lost ones will harm us unprovoked. The most dangerous creatures in this wardrobe are several other types of monsters."
"There is a monster that disguises itself as a cabinet door. Just when you excitedly think you've found a way out, you open the cabinet door and find a huge mouth inside."
"There is another kind of monster that looks like a human, but wears blood-stained clothes from the closet. They are the most dangerous monsters. They will disguise themselves as clothes and grab you when you get close, then bite you."
The butterfly's wardrobe seems to exist between nightmares and reality, like a moldy passage where people and monsters lost in nightmares still linger.
This strange wardrobe may also be related to the butterfly's abilities. In Han Fei's memory, the butterfly's greatest skill is to first enter someone's dream and then slowly influence reality through the dream.
"It's truly remarkable that you've survived in a place like this," Han Fei remarked sincerely. "Do you even remember how long you've lived here?"
"Without the sun, moon, and stars, and without any reference points, I tried to calculate the time at first, but my mind became more and more confused, and now I don't even know if it's day or night outside."
"Then how did you survive here? Is there water and food in this wardrobe?" Han Fei stared at the woman suspiciously. He only showed the doubt of a normal person, but in fact, he already had a rough guess in his heart. The other party might have already died, and the woman in front of him was just a ghost who had not completely forgotten the past.
“Water…” The woman was silent for a long time before raising her head: “I was worried that I would scare you, so I originally wanted to tell you after a while. Since you asked me, I won’t hide anything from you. Come with me.”
The woman gripped the fruit knife tightly; she was clearly nervous, like an inexperienced hunter.
The bloodstains on their clothes grew thicker and thicker. After dodging the arm monsters several times, the woman led Han Fei deeper into the area.
Strange sounds kept drifting past my ears, as if the clothes the deceased had worn were suddenly speaking.
The further Han Fei walked, the more uneasy he felt. His clothes were covered in blood, some of which was still dripping down as if it had just been ripped from the bodies of the dead.
Approaching the clothing, one could faintly hear painful groans.
"We've arrived. I call this place the cafeteria."
The woman walked for a full half hour before stopping. She gently picked up the blood-stained clothes beside her, apologized to them, and then put them in her mouth.
As bright red blood flowed into her body, the woman's eyes slowly turned red. After sucking, she turned her head to look at Han Fei.
Her mouth was stained red with blood, her teeth were covered in stains, and there were splattered bloodstains on her face. She looked like a vengeful ghost, completely different from before.
"Do you think I'm scary? But don't forget I saved you before." The woman put down the blood-stained clothes in her hand: "There's only one way to survive here. I was very resistant at first, but I had no other choice. My son might be being used as a toy by a vengeful ghost. Just thinking about that makes me capable of anything."
"You are a great mother."
"Don't flatter me. When you're starving enough, you'll make the same choice, because it's the only way." After the woman drank the blood from her clothes, her blood vessels began to swell, and her face became even paler. Whenever she spoke, two voices would come out of her mouth at the same time, but the other voice was very weak.
Han Fei now understood why the woman's voice sounded so strange; she had drunk countless amounts of blood from the clothes of the dead in order to survive here.
"Besides me, have you met anyone else here?"
“I’ve encountered them, but most of them were on the verge of madness. Some have already become lost souls and will probably soon become new clothes hanging in the closet.” The woman looked at her skin, which was slowly turning red from drinking blood. “Actually, I saved you for another reason.”
"what reason?"
"I feel like I'm about to collapse too. If I were to become a piece of clothing in your wardrobe, I hope you could take me with you and, while ensuring your own survival, help me find my child." The woman didn't force Han Fei; she spoke in a pleading tone: "He disappeared wearing a bear-patterned pajama. If he's still alive, I hope you can help take care of him. If he also becomes clothing, then please put me with him, okay?"
"Don't be so pessimistic. Maybe we can find him and leave with him."
"I hope so." The woman thought Han Fei was just trying to comfort her and didn't take his words to heart.
"I'm serious." Just as Han Fei was about to ask for some more information, the woman suddenly gestured for him to bend down.
The blood-stained clothes swayed gently in the distance, and after a moment a man in a shirt, with thinning hair and looking to be in his forties, emerged.
He didn't see Han Fei and the woman, so he half-squatted on the ground and moved his body little by little.
"Where is this?!" The middle-aged man's face was contorted with fear, and his mental state was very unstable, seemingly on the verge of collapse.
Not daring to call for help for fear of attracting monsters, he could only move his body slowly by himself.
The middle-aged man crawled forward for a while, still surrounded by blood-stained clothes. His eyes were now bloodshot, and his complexion was extremely poor.
"Why is this happening?"
The man's emotions gradually became unstable, and before he completely broke down, Han Fei and the woman emerged from their hiding place.
"Don't get agitated, we're trapped in this closet just like you..."
"Don't come any closer! Just stand there and talk!" The middle-aged man saw the bloodstains on the woman's face that hadn't been wiped away, and the fruit knife in her hand. He immediately thought of something terrible.
"You'd better keep your voice down. If you attract monsters, are you sure you can outrun the two of us?" Han Fei had extensive practical experience in applying psychology, and he put away the Rebirth Blade before even revealing himself.
Raising his hands and slowly approaching, Han Fei walked up to the middle-aged man with utmost sincerity: "Judging from your appearance, it seems you haven't been in this wardrobe for very long?"
"I don't know the exact time, maybe a dozen hours? I stayed in one place the whole time, and only started moving slowly after I found out there were monsters." The middle-aged man felt extremely insecure, and Han Fei's voice gave him a sense of reassurance in this situation.
"Can you tell me how you got into this wardrobe?"
"I don't know either!" The middle-aged man grabbed his already thinning hair: "There was a thumping sound coming from my upstairs neighbor's house in the middle of the night, which kept me from sleeping, so I wanted to go upstairs to check, but I found that his door was unlocked."
"You went inside? Why didn't you just call the police?"
"I was furious and didn't think much of it. When I entered the house, I found no one inside. Just as I was wondering about this, I suddenly heard a sound coming from the bedroom, so I pushed open the door and went in to take a look."
"Did you see anyone in the closet?"
“I saw the tenant lying on the bed, fast asleep. I thought he was faking it, so I went over to wake him up, but when I touched his face I realized something was wrong.” The middle-aged man was filled with regret, but it was too late to say anything now: “His face was ice cold, like pork just taken out of the refrigerator.”
"The cold skin indicates that he has been dead for some time. It seems that the thumping sounds upstairs were not made by him. There must be someone else in the house, and that person is most likely the murderer," Han Fei calmly analyzed.
"That's what I thought too, but when I tried to run, my body went out of control. My head was spinning, and when I opened my eyes again, I found myself in this place." The middle-aged man had a bitter look on his face: "The stocks I bought just broke even yesterday, and I thought my luck had turned around. I never thought that was the last gasp before my death."
"The murderer who put you in the closet really wanted to get rid of your neighbor. You were just an accident. Can you tell me about your neighbor?" Han Fei found it strange; the middle-aged man seemed to have been dragged into the closet within the last few days. Considering the timing, Butterfly was facing increasingly intense police searches and had to constantly look for weaknesses in Huang Ying's case; she probably wouldn't have acted rashly.
“My neighbor is a strange person. We’ve been neighbors for years, but we’ve never exchanged more than three sentences. He’s withdrawn and always chooses to eat late at night when it’s quiet. I heard from people in the neighborhood that he used to work for a big company, but he seems to have suffered some kind of blow and became depressed and decadent.”
"Works at a big company?" Han Fei narrowed his eyes. "Do you know his name?"
"His name is Feng Ziyu. Lately, he's been acting increasingly strangely. He's mysterious every day, as if he's living in a world of his own making."
