Chapter 360 The Child Raised by Nightmas
Chapter 360 The Child Raised by Nightmas (First Update)
"The Night of Return of the Soul (E-level Main Quest): Today is April 4th, the fourteenth year since the Death Tower changed its manager. It has waited for this night for fourteen years. Now it has finally found a suitable body, and it has also seen that blurry figure in the future."
"Mission Requirement 1: You are currently in a state of semi-death, and you must retrieve your three lost souls and three spirits before dawn. Please set off as soon as possible, as they may have already been summoned to a room in the Death Tower. If even one soul dissipates, you will never be able to exit the game."
"Mission requirement two: Stop the soul-returning ritual. If it successfully returns to life, you will be the first one killed."
"Mission Requirement Three: On this special night, the line between the dead and the living will become extremely blurred. You will be on the edge of life and death, witnessing death firsthand. Before dawn, please find as many living people as possible inside the dead building."
"Mission hint: It is very difficult to kill it, because it lives in the hearts of the living, which means it has not died."
"Attention! Due to the large difference between the player's level and the quest level, an additional quest hint has been added—Butterfly."
"I was born with a special ability: I can see the world in complete darkness without having my eyes covered."
“I know I have a deformed body, and I am also aware of my biological parents’ disgust and aversion.”
“They left me with red streaks and black scabs, saying that this would make me more pleasing to the eye and beautiful.”
“Day after day of depiction, as black flowers bloomed on my swollen head, they stood before my face, discussing how to dispose of my corpse.”
"I tried to please them and pretend to forget what I said that night, but amnesia only resulted in being abandoned. It turns out they really wanted to sever ties with me."
"My fragmented body was thrown off the cliff. I tried my best to open my torn arms, and bones, flesh and blood scattered around me. I desperately twisted my head, wanting them to see the wings that had grown on me."
"I fell into the abyss of nightmares, where nightmares and demons stared at me silently. They wondered why I didn't struggle or call for help. I wondered why they would ask such a question?"
"Is it possible that not every child in this world is like me?"
"Born into a cocoon, and eventually grows wings?"
"Attention! This is one of the most important tasks in the early stages of the game! Players must treat it with utmost care!"
The butterfly is a monster raised on nightmares. It has a soul so ugly it's suffocating. And it is precisely because of the deformity of its soul and body that it paints itself with the most beautiful patterns.
When the prompt sounded in Han Fei's mind, he listened attentively, and the more he listened, the more surprised he became.
The first quest hint seems to provide a way to kill the butterfly, while the second quest hint reveals the butterfly's past.
Upon closer examination, every sentence in the second clue contained a wealth of information, but Han Fei had no time to think about it carefully; his attention was completely drawn to another sentence.
"If one of the three lost souls dies, will I never be able to quit the game?"
If there is anything in this world more terrifying than death, it is being locked up in a death tower forever.
A large part of the reason why Han Fei was able to maintain his hope was that he could log off.
Just like how you always have to leave work, as long as you don't suddenly die on the job, there's still some hope.
"I can guarantee that I won't do anything reckless, but I can't guarantee what those souls pulled out of my body will do!" Han Fei didn't really understand what those souls were. He didn't feel like he was missing anything. If souls are the crystallization of memories, then what memories did the three souls that were pulled out contain?
"We must find those three souls as soon as possible!"
The moment this thought crossed Han Fei's mind, he suddenly felt a chill seeping into his very bones at the back of his neck.
Turning around, he saw a sharp executioner's blade hovering in front of him. If he had just taken a step back, the blade would have directly struck his flesh.
The headless gatekeeper stood beside Han Fei, and the heads on the ground stared at him with wide eyes. Without warning, streaks of blood appeared and went straight up his ears and into his brain!
"warn!"
The system seemed to have issued a warning, but Han Fei didn't hear what the system said for a moment. He just felt a sharp pain in both ears and temporary deafness, and couldn't hear anything.
Han Fei collapsed to the ground, covering his ears as blood dripped from between his fingers.
Enduring the excruciating pain, Han Fei stared intently at the door gods, gripping the Rebirth Slaughtering Blade tightly in his hand.
He was indeed very scared, and much weaker than the door gods, but he would not give up because of that.
Even a god cannot deprive a person of the right to live.
The door god's body trembled slightly, then it took a few steps back and stopped next to the door of room 4044, as if it had recalled something particularly bad.
The heads around Han Fei slowly parted, their expressions strange, a mixture of greed and hesitation on their faces, which eventually coalesced into a smile.
Strands of blood trickled from Han Fei's ear; the door god seemed to have obtained what he wanted.
At this moment, the Soul Chaser's Soul Bell had shattered, and mournful music was approaching, as if something was coming down from upstairs.
The door god was right next to the door of room 4044. After the last trace of blood returned to its body, the door of room 4044 opened a crack.
Blood and human heads all rushed into the gap along the entire fourth-floor corridor, until finally only a human head remained on the ground.
The head looked very similar to the head of the door god in Han Fei's memory; it was mangled and bloody, and looked extremely gruesome.
After staring at each other for a few seconds, the doorman picked up the mangled human head and placed it on his own neck.
The blood that had just spurted from Han Fei's ear had all seeped into the man's head, and the mangled face was gradually becoming somewhat similar to Han Fei's.
This bizarre situation left Han Fei somewhat at a loss. He considered whether to take this opportunity to escape, but after looking at the huge executioner's blade in the door god's hand, he finally gave up the idea. The door god could have let him run three meters away first before swinging the blade.
"Don't be afraid, I just want to make sure you're not lying to me." The mangled head suddenly spoke, and as if to show its sincerity, the door god sheathed the knife in his hand.
"You stole my memories?"
"No, just now when I was about to access your memories, I sensed a very terrifying and familiar aura emanating from you. It was this very aura that severed my head back then, so I believe you are not lying." The door god, with his mangled head, looked extremely gruesome.
