Chapter 365 It's Not Your Father Who Came Back
Stepping out of the bedroom where the portrait was kept, Han Fei still felt some confusion, but those questions should be answered once he actually met the child's parents.

Han Fei remembered that when the system notification came out earlier, the subject used was "them". Judging from this alone, Lai Sheng's parents should still be in room 4064.

Upon entering the living room, Han Fei looked at the room with many mirrors hanging on it and walked towards the bedroom where the boy's mother slept.

"Don't wake Mom." The boy ran up to Han Fei and stopped him again. The child was young, but very stubborn. Perhaps a seed of obsession had been planted in his heart since childhood. If no one supervised and guided him properly, that seed of obsession might sprout something terrifying.

"Actually, I came to your house just to look for something I lost. Don't worry, I have absolutely no ill intentions and I won't wake your mother." Han Fei squatted down, his voice unusually gentle: "I'm just opening the door to take a look. If the person I'm looking for isn't in the house, I'll leave immediately."

Seeing the boy still blocking his way, a hint of sadness slowly crept into Han Fei's smile.

His acting was just right, neither fake nor pretentious, allowing the boy to feel the pain hidden behind his smile: "You've been waiting for your father, and I've been waiting for my child. You should understand what longing feels like, right? It's like swallowing a piece of ice, warming it in your heart, and then letting out scalding tears."

Hearing Han Fei's words, the boy slowly lowered his outstretched arms: "Your child also went to a very far place?"

Han Fei took a deep breath, his gentle smile still on his face, but anyone could see that behind that smile lay a soul clenching its teeth.

"Tonight is the night of the return of the soul, and my child has also returned, but I find that he seems to be lost." Han Fei is an adult man, but the helplessness of an adult man is even more touching.

"You came into my house just to look for your child?" The boy felt a sense of empathy. His father was about the same age as Han Fei, and if he were lost, his father would definitely do everything he could to find him, just like Han Fei.

With his mouth clenched, the boy thought for a long time before giving up on Han Fei: "Then you mustn't make any noise and wake my mother. She has been preparing for this day's soul-summoning for a whole year. If we cause Dad not to come back, she will definitely be very angry and sad."

The boy was kind; he possessed many qualities rarely seen in the dead building.

Seemingly worried about Han Fei, he secretly went to his mother's bedroom, grabbed the doorknob, and turned it little by little with the slightest movement.

Han Fei's heart was in his throat. He was finally about to face the true master of 4064. He hoped that the ten points of goodwill he had just gained would come in handy.

Laisheng and Hanfei were both focused on the doorknob, but just as the door was about to open, there was a sudden knock on the living room door!
The sound startled Han Fei.

The boy quickly let go, a hint of excitement appearing on his pale face. He muttered softly, "My dad's back?!"

He didn't even bother to open the doorknob; he pulled Han Fei behind the sofa.

The knocking wasn't loud, but it was so quiet inside that it was very clear.

"Does your father usually knock on the door like this?" After a few seconds, Han Fei noticed something was wrong. The knocking started with fingers, then slowly turned into a hand. The other person's palm seemed to be bleeding, and when it hit the door, it was as if a layer of skin was stuck directly to the outside of the door.

"No, Dad rarely knocks on the door. He usually just says things like 'Open the door,' 'I'm off work,' or 'I'm home.'"

"Then this might not be your father. When you summon a spirit, you might also summon other things."

"Is it the same as yours?"

“No, I didn’t come to summon a spirit. I work in this building.” Han Fei had the little boy hide behind him as he slowly approached the living room door. “If it keeps knocking like this, it might attract other things.”

Han Fei walked behind the door and peered through the peephole. He saw a man standing outside the door, his head bowed, dressed in red.

"The Soul Chaser?" Han Fei had seen many strange people in red clothes in the Dead Building game, and had even ridden in the same elevator with them.

"Let me see too." The boy's face was full of anticipation.

He carried the boy to the peephole, and after looking at him for a long time, the expectation on his face turned into fear: "That's not my dad!"

"Are you sure? He's looking down, so you can't see his face."

"I'm sure." The boy nodded emphatically.

"Then let's not open the door for him, let's hide in the living room first." Han Fei was speaking when the knocking suddenly stopped.

"Has that person left?"

"Let me take another look." The knocking had indeed stopped, but there were still some very faint sounds outside. Han Fei pressed his face against the door and looked through the peephole.

The man in red was indeed gone, but a pair of shoe prints could be clearly seen in the ashes of the paper money on the ground. The bowl of white rice had also been turned over, and it looked red, whether from blood or something else.

"It seems they've left." Han Fei breathed a sigh of relief. He now felt very averse to the Soul Chasers; those guys seemed to have lost all humanity and were completely dominated by the Death Tower.

Turning around, Han Fei was about to lead the boy to the living room when he suddenly noticed that the boy had tilted his head up at an exaggerated angle, staring at the ceiling by the door.

"Above my head? The Soul Ladder!"

Han Fei immediately realized something. He looked up and saw a man covered in blood climbing out of the window above the door, clinging to the ceiling like a giant gecko!
The face, torn to pieces and covered in death curses, stared at Han Fei and Lai Sheng. Its mouth was open, and a bloody tongue stretched directly towards Lai Sheng's neck!
"Go back to the bedroom!"

Han Fei shoved the boy aside, picked up the Rebirth Blade, and slashed upwards!
The gleaming blade severed the red-clad man's tongue without any resistance, and the whole process happened in the blink of an eye.

The long tongue that had fallen to the ground twisted and writhed like an eel, and the red-clad man's face, which was covered in death curses, slowly turned to look at Han Fei.

He seemed to have never imagined that his tongue would be so easily severed by a knife. Moreover, the place where the Rebirth Blade had cut him could not be repaired even by the Death Curse.

Taking advantage of the moment when the man in red was stunned, Han Fei immediately carried the boy into the living room.

"Go find your mother and tell her that the summoning of the spirit has summoned something else! A ghost has entered your house!"

The boy was eagerly anticipating seeing his father, but instead of his father, he saw a monster in red.

He couldn't care less about the soul-summoning ritual at that moment and rushed to the bedroom, but no matter how he turned the doorknob, he couldn't open the bedroom door.

To buy the little boy time, Han Fei stood between the boy and the man in red. The hideous ghost patterns on his body slowly emitted a sinister aura, and a huge nine-lived monster cat appeared on his back.

I'd like to recommend a really good book to everyone: WALL-E's *Nightwalker*. It's a cyberpunk story with elements of extraordinary professions and everyday life. He's an experienced author; his previous book, *Doctor Plague*, was also very good.

A city shimmering with neon lights, yet fraught with peril.

Superhumans lurk in the night rain, alien species roam the ruined streets, and evil spirits stir up trouble along the city's great river.

Oligopolistic corporations, mysterious cults, supernatural programs, cybernetics, Personas.

Gu Heyuan thought he was popular because he was a psychologist and kind-hearted, a breath of fresh air in this messy world. But things took an unexpected turn.
