My Healing Games
Chapter 450 The Missed Choice
Chapter 450 The Missed Choice
"The mission requires me to kill Lin Lu. Why must a wish made in the name of love kill the last vestige of beauty?"
"When is the right time?"
To be honest, Han Fei didn't want to take action. The shrine owner was already in a terrible state, and he couldn't bear to destroy the last bit of beauty in the shrine owner's heart.
"If I don't do that quest, will it affect my ability to inherit the shrine?"
After surviving for several days in the shrine's owner's memory world, Han Fei finally realized just how difficult it was to inherit an unclaimed shrine.
The bus sped through the night. After Lin Lu left, the temperature inside the bus began to drop again, but Han Fei and the others were almost at their stop.
If Lin Lu hadn't gotten on the bus in the middle, causing the temperature inside to rise and all the passengers to return to normal, Han Fei and the others definitely wouldn't have made it to the end.
This seems to correspond to the situation of the shrine's owner at the time; he teetered on the brink of death but ultimately survived.
"Perhaps his body had already been tampered with when he first saw that shrine, but he just didn't realize it."
Before the temperature inside the bus dropped to freezing, the bus finally arrived at the department store, and Han Fei and the other two hurriedly got off.
"I'll never take the last bus again," Li Hu vowed silently. His gaze kept drifting to his brother, Li Long, whose face still hadn't returned to normal, the deathly look between his brows growing stronger. "Brother, are you alright?"
"It's alright, come back with me first and pack your things." Han Fei described the Ten Fingers as a very terrifying organization. Li Long was worried about being retaliated against by the Ten Fingers, so he decided to go home immediately to pack his things and then move to a safe place to live.
The two brothers quickly disappeared into the night. Han Fei glanced at the huge clock outside the mall. Instead of going home, he headed straight for the department store.
It's time to go to work.
Upon entering the mall through Entrance C, the security booth in front of the entrance was empty, and the mall itself was pitch black, much darker than usual.
Apart from the four gleaming characters at the very top of the mall that read "White Goods Mall," only the secondhand shops faintly emitted a sliver of light.
Dragging his injured leg, Han Fei peered through the shop doorway and saw Pei Yang sitting behind the counter playing on his phone.
As Han Fei opened the shop door and entered, the system's voice also sounded.
"Attention Player 0000! Your current hunger level is 10, your physical condition is poor, your current mental state is slightly depressed, and your mood value is 50. Do you wish to begin today's work?"
"Yes."
Ding dong, ding dong...
Hearing someone enter the store, Pei Yang quickly put away his phone, but when he realized it was Han Fei, he immediately breathed a sigh of relief: "You scared me! I thought it was the boss."
Are you the only customer in the shop?
"What else could I do? Huang Li was unconscious, and you wouldn't answer my calls, so I had to mind the shop alone. Luckily, there weren't many customers today." Pei Yang finished his game and then stepped out from behind the counter: "Holy crap! What happened to you? Were you in a car accident?"
"He tripped and fell." Han Fei stared at Pei Yang, trying to read something from Pei Yang's expression, but unfortunately, Pei Yang seemed like a lamb to the slaughter. Even though he knew that the secondhand store was dangerous, he still had no intention of resisting.
"Brother, you really need to be careful lately. There are only the two of us left in the shop now." Pei Yang handed his coat to Han Fei and said, "I've checked the accounts. You just need to keep an eye on the shop tonight."
Pei Yang was unusually diligent. He stretched and prepared to leave, but halfway there he suddenly remembered something: "By the way, it seems like none of the mall security guards are on duty, and I can't get through to Zhu Wei on the phone. Be careful, it seems like you're the only person in the entire mall tonight."
Pei Yang made a face, then pointed to the coffee next to the counter: "I ordered two cups for delivery, the one I saved for you, bye-bye."
Pei Yang put on his coat and left, disappearing into the distance amidst the tinkling sounds.
"Neither of the two security guards came to work? Are they both dead?" Through the shop window, Han Fei glanced outside. The huge shopping mall looked like a black ocean, and his small shop was sinking in the deep sea.
Although Han Fei wished the mall owner were dead, he still began his work for the night very seriously.
Check the shelves, compare the various goods, verify the invoices, and enter all the data into the computer.
Someone as dedicated as him would probably have become an elite in his field long ago if he hadn't chosen the path of a comedian.
Soon, Han Fei finished inspecting all the shelves and found that although Pei Yang had sorted out the accounts, the missing goods had not been replenished in time.
"Is he afraid to go into the underground warehouse to retrieve the goods?"
Han Fei was also very resistant to the underground warehouse. He hesitated at the entrance for a long time until his left eye saw bloodstains suddenly appear on the clean ground, and it seemed that all the bloodstains were flowing out of his stomach.
"After suffering such severe injuries, the owner of the shrine still went into the underground storeroom?"
He opened the partition, and the bloodstain in Han Fei's left eye extended into the warehouse. He followed the bloodstain and finally stopped in front of the shrine covered with a black cloth.
"Open it. It's the only thing that can save you now. What are you hesitating for?" It was as if my right ear was being immersed in river water. A strange man's voice rang out amidst the cold sound of flowing water.
Han Fei slowly raised his left hand, but just as it was about to touch the black cloth, his hand stopped.
"Only I can save myself."
All the painful memories are gathered here; no one can escape them, and they will only bring more painful things.
His hand finally landed on the hammer next to the black cloth, his five fingers gripping the handle: "You went to great lengths to strip him of his kindness, were you afraid that after he learned the truth, his kindness would destroy you, who was omnipotent?"
The shrine was covered with a black cloth, but the outline of a person could be vaguely seen beneath it, silently watching Han Fei.
“Psychopaths enjoy destroying beautiful things little by little, which gives them satisfaction. But I’m different. I enjoy destroying dirty and evil things, which makes me feel alive.” Han Fei brandished the tool hammer in his hand: “I do want your approval, but I don’t intend to become the kind of person you want me to be.”
There had always been a worn-out tool hammer next to the shrine, but Han Fei only discovered one thing today: he couldn't see with his left eye because of this tool hammer.
In other words, the tool hammer did not actually appear in the shrine owner's memory, but was a figment of the shrine owner's subconscious imagination. Just as the deer represents love and beauty, the tool hammer placed next to the shrine represents the shrine owner's resentment.
Even if he became the devil's puppet, even if he lost all his humanity and kindness, even if he became an unspeakable being, the shrine deep in his memory still held the choices he had made back then.
This chapter is rather short; I'll add another chapter tomorrow. Lately, I've been obsessed with Freud's interpretation of dreams, my mind is filled with all sorts of images, and this part of the story has also been influenced by it. After a person dies, all their regrets and remorse settle in their memories, constructing a world. This world has no shrine owner, but everything described in it is a manifestation of some feeling of the shrine owner, including the several supporting characters named after animals, the gradual progression of regrets, and so on. However, trying to express too much makes it all rather chaotic.
