Chapter 457 The finger has been severed 3 times
Chapter 457 Three of the Ten Fingers Have Been Broken
Han Fei spent most of the night in a hallucination, and it would be too late to break down the wall now.
To avoid being discovered by his boss, Han Fei memorized the location of the well and then restored the shelf to its original position.
He carried a shovel and a pickaxe through the underground warehouse, carefully feeling the coolness emanating from the landlord's ring. There were far more unclean things in the underground warehouse than on the surface.
"what is this?"
On a shelf very close to the shrine was a carved wooden box, somewhat like an antique, and a chilling wind could be felt as soon as you got close to it.
Wearing gloves, Han Fei opened the wooden box. Inside were several blackened bamboo leaves, with moldy white rice and worm-infested dates clinging to their surface. Strangely, the bamboo leaves themselves were intact.
"These bamboo leaves look so strange. The veins look like dense blood vessels. Could this be a meat-filled rice dumpling?"
Peel back the bamboo leaves, and at the bottom of the wooden box is a letter. On the envelope, you can barely make out three words: "To an old friend."
Despite the intense discomfort, Han Fei found a plastic bag, took out the letter, wiped away the bloodstains on the envelope, and saw an address.
"No. 19 Shaheyuan, Baicheng District? I remember the family that used to order white rice every night also lived in Shaheyuan."
Baicheng District is the richest district, and Shaheyuan is where the wealthy live.
"How close must their relationship be for them to send such meat-filled rice dumplings during a festival?"
Han Fei put a bamboo leaf and a piece of letter paper into a plastic bag. He planned to take these to Shaheyuan after dawn.
Besides the bamboo leaves, Han Fei also discovered a large number of goods emanating a sinister aura in the warehouse, including precious silks, a rusty meat grinder, and an old-fashioned box television that had been out of use for many years.
“There was at least one ‘dirty thing’ on each shelf, and they were all placed facing the shrine, as if they were offerings to the shrine.”
Han Fei scanned the shelves, preparing to take these "dirty things" sealed in the warehouse out and let them see the light of day again.
"In the hallucinations of the shrine's owner, all the ghosts are controlled by the shrine, and everyone around is an accomplice. But is that really the case?"
"He was in a state of extreme despair at the time, completely dominated by negative thoughts, and coupled with the temptation of the shrine, he saw such a hopeless world."
"Perhaps that kind of world is exactly what the mall owner wants him to see. All the beauty that comes close to the shrine's owner in reality will be torn apart and kneaded into an even uglier despair. He wants to turn the shrine's owner into a monster step by step, into a slave kneeling before the shrine."
"After going through so much, I can say that I am the person who understands him the most in this world of memories, but understanding does not mean that I will follow the same path as him."
In his hallucination, Han Fei was driven to the brink of despair by all the ghosts and monsters. Now, Han Fei not only doesn't hate those ghosts and monsters, but he also wants to take them out of the warehouse.
“They were persecuted and bullied by the shrine, and they could not even find peace after death. If there is anyone in this world who can help me, it must be among them.”
Since he couldn't move everything at once, Han Fei could only select a few small items that were easy to carry and wouldn't be easily noticed, and stuff them into the old lady's bundle.
When he left the underground storeroom, his bag contained a paper airplane folded from a love letter, a wig covered in cobwebs, a blood-stained bamboo leaf, and the letter.
Using the same methods he employed to clean up a murder scene, Han Fei restored everything in the store to its original state. Then, carrying the old lady's package, he walked out of the secondhand store and went to the donation box behind the shopping mall.
Huang Li had brought her here once before. The donation box built by the mall owner was not far from the garbage disposal area of the building. Perhaps the mall owner subconsciously felt that charity was just about finding a better place for garbage.
Taking out the key, Han Fei opened the donation box and carefully placed the old lady's package inside.
Perhaps because he has been involved in solving too many murder cases, Han Fei is very skilled at handling crime scenes. Fortunately, he is not a bad person. If he had really gone astray one day, Shanghai might have another super criminal.
Back at the store, Han Fei acted as if nothing had happened, and lay down on the counter to catch up on sleep.
"Ding dong, ding dong..."
Just as dawn was about to break, the shop door was pushed open, and a man dressed in a black coat entered the shop.
He was dressed entirely in black, from his hat to his shoes, as if he had just attended a funeral.
The man didn't speak to Han Fei, but walked around the shop alone, finally stopping in front of the shrine covered with a black cloth.
"Is there anything you need?" Han Fei asked, standing at the counter, still somewhat sleepy.
“I wanted to buy this shrine last time, but the salesperson said he was undecided and needed to consult the boss.” The man slowly turned around: “So many days have passed, I wonder what your decision is?”
It was very cold outside, but the man was only wearing a thin coat. He also had a very complicated black tattoo on his neck, which looked like a giant python swallowing several heads.
"Could you tell me which employee served you? I can help you contact them." Han Fei gently patted his face, as if forcing himself to stay awake.
"Thank you for your kindness, but he should be here soon." The man glanced at Han Fei a few times, then quickly lost interest.
He seemed to care more about the secondhand goods in the shop than the living people in this world.
A dozen minutes later, the door of the secondhand store was pushed open again, and Pei Yang, with bloodshot eyes, appeared at the door. He was disheveled and his hair was messy, as if he had just fallen asleep and been woken up.
"Why did you come here?" Han Fei asked, somewhat surprised.
Pei Yang waved his hand and went straight to the man in black. The two talked in hushed tones for a long time, during which Pei Yang would occasionally look at Han Fei, as if afraid that Han Fei would notice something.
About ten minutes later, Pei Yang walked up to Han Fei and said, "Brother, I see you've injured your leg. You should leave work early today. Go home and get some rest, and come back early tonight to take over the shift."
"Can your body handle this? You didn't leave until after 11 p.m. last night, and now you're back before dawn..."
"Don't worry about me, you should go back to sleep." Pei Yang kept urging Han Fei to leave.
"That guy doesn't seem like a good person. Be careful, or you'll get scammed," Han Fei kindly reminded him.
"Okay, okay, got it."
Han Fei was quite happy to be able to leave work early. He checked the accounts with Pei Yang, then rubbed his sleepy eyes and walked out of the secondhand store.
The moment Han Fei stepped out of the store, a murderous intent flashed in his eyes. He could see clearly that the head tattoo on the man's neck was the same as the one on Seven Fingers' body.
"How did Pei Yang get involved with Shi Zhi?"
Pei Yang and the man in black spoke very softly, but Han Fei, possessing the shrine's damaged right ear, heard everything they said.
Pei Yang had already discovered some of the mall owner's secrets, and he felt that he would be the next to die, so he took the initiative to ask the man in black for help.
The man in black works as a private investigator and has been investigating matters related to the business world. He and Pei Yang are a perfect match.
"With Seven Fingers and Eight Fingers killed, the remaining fingers will have to start their operation as well. Pei Yang is very clever, but he chose the wrong partner. Teaming up with Ten Fingers is like a lamb entering a tiger's den."
Han Fei risked being discovered to remind Pei Yang, but Pei Yang is now panicked and won't listen to anyone.
"I hope he can hold on until the end."
When disaster strikes, everyone tries their best to save themselves, but some people choose the wrong method, which is more like suicide than self-rescue.
It was already dawn outside the mall. After making sure no one was around, Han Fei went to the donation box and took the old lady's package.
"get off work."
After crossing the stone bridge, Han Fei looked down at the quietly flowing Shahe River. His reflection in the water was somewhat blurry and didn't look much like him. It was as if another person was standing in the river looking at him.
"Go back and get some sleep. We'll go to Shaheyuan with Wang Ping'an at noon."
Han Fei rubbed his hands together. The weather was getting colder and colder, and he should buy himself some warmer clothes.
Bypassing the park and entering the alley, Han Fei stopped after walking only a short distance.
There are two alleys between the department store and his rented place. The homeless man usually hides in the alley near the residential area, but today he appeared in the alley near the department store.
Upon seeing Han Fei approach, the homeless man climbed up from beside the wooden crate and stretched out his hands in front of Han Fei, seemingly asking him for food.
After not seeing each other for a day and a night, the homeless man's leg seemed to have been crippled; he now looked just like the dog in the wooden box.
His hair was disheveled, his clothes were tattered, and his hands were covered in mud.
Homeless people never used to stop people on the road to beg for food, but today he seemed a bit unusual.
“It’s not fully light yet, and the breakfast stall from yesterday isn’t open, so I can’t buy you anything to eat right now.” Han Fei continued walking forward when the homeless man suddenly grabbed Han Fei’s clothes, leaving stains on Han Fei’s shop uniform with his dirty hands.
Han Fei narrowed his eyes slowly. He didn't say anything offensive to the homeless man, nor did he use brute force to break free.
He gently grasped the man's wrist: "Looks like you're starving. I'll go check out the mall area. I remember there's a 24-hour convenience store there."
Han Fei's expression remained completely normal, and his smile was very warm.
Seeing that he was about to return the way he came, the homeless man finally let go of his hand.
Two minutes later, Han Fei could no longer be seen on the street. Just as the homeless man was about to return to the vicinity of the wooden box, the door of a house next to him suddenly opened.
A man in a hospital caregiver uniform walked out, holding a gleaming, sharp knife in his hand.
"You're going to save him?" The man grabbed the homeless man by the neck and slammed him against the wall. "Since you like doing good deeds so much, then you should die in his place!"
Just as the blade was about to pierce the homeless man's abdomen, hurried footsteps came from the alley.
Han Fei hadn't gone far at all; he had been hiding around the corner.
Without considering the consequences, Han Fei tackled the man to the ground.
"You really are suspicious! I knew I'd never seen you before!" The man exclaimed excitedly as Han Fei returned. "A stranger has appeared in this unchanging world. Whose memories are you?"
The man felt no pain and was much stronger than an ordinary person; he easily locked one of Han Fei's arms behind his back.
"It's okay if you don't want to talk. I'll turn you into canned food and imprison you in my bedroom."
The man grabbed Han Fei by the neck with his other hand, and as he tried to throw Han Fei to the ground, Han Fei clenched his right fist and stabbed it towards the man's heart.
"Can't you even fight? Ha! Do you think your fist can pierce my chest?"
The sinister smile on his lips slowly froze, and the man felt a chill in his chest: "How can a body formed from memories feel cold?"
Looking down, the sunlight shone on Han Fei's hand, and a dazzling blade appeared in the man's eyes.
Grip the knife with your hand behind your back and slash upwards!
The caregiver's head was severed diagonally by the blade.
His body melted away in the sunlight. The caregiver stared at Han Fei in disbelief. He didn't even have time to touch the tattoo on his neck before Han Fei had already killed him.
"I...I've memorized your face..."
"So long-winded." Stretching his wrists, Han Fei got up from the ground: "He has six human heads tattooed around his neck, like a scarf. Does that mean he has six fingers?"
Putting away the Rebirth Blade, Han Fei turned to look at the corner of the wall, where a homeless man was clutching his dog in terror, fearing that Han Fei would kill him.
