Chapter 565 Father and Son
Chapter 565 Father and Son
The hospital's diagnosis was in Han Fei's pants pocket. He went into the kitchen and stood next to his wife.
Clear water flowed from the tap, washing away the grease and foam on the plates. Every place his wife had wiped became as clean and bright as a mirror.
"Did you already know that?"
Han Fei looked at his wife's hands. She was several years younger than Fu Yi, but her hands were even rougher than Fu Yi's.
"what do you know?"
One by one, the plates and bowls were put back into the cupboard. After his wife skillfully washed them, she began to clean the kitchen. After she finished tidying everything up, Han Fei was still standing in the same spot.
For Han Fei, he had never had such an experience before. The words were already on the tip of his tongue, but he just couldn't say them.
This period should have been the most heartwarming time for his wife. If the truth were revealed, the false happiness might be shattered.
In fact, Han Fei had already sensed that his wife not only knew about Fu Yi's affairs with those women, but also that he might not be Fu Yi.
In this world, his wife is the person who understands Fu Yi the most. She forgives and yields time and time again, until finally picking up a sharp knife.
She valued her family so much; she wouldn't have made that decision unless things had reached a point where they could no longer be sustained. Han Fei could even imagine her despair at that time.
After cleaning up the kitchen, the wife left, as if she was deliberately avoiding Han Fei and preventing him from continuing his story.
"She seems to really know."
Han Fei never expected that the first person in the world to see through his masterful acting skills would be an ordinary woman.
Around 10 o'clock, Han Fei and his wife entered the bedroom. This time, his wife lay down on the bed, sleeping on her side.
Han Fei opened the cabinet, intending to take out the bedding, but was surprised to find that the quilts and mattresses inside had been changed, and someone had replaced them with softer, warmer bedding for him.
He lay down on the floor, staring blankly at the ceiling. He couldn't sleep that night.
Around six o'clock in the morning, my wife got up and carefully left the room to start preparing for a new day for the family.
After his wife left the bedroom, Han Fei opened his eyes.
Without doing anything unnecessary, Han Fei waited until the alarm clock rang before getting out of bed, just like always.
I went into the bathroom to wash up, then sat down at the table and ate the breakfast my wife had prepared.
There was a knock on the door on the second floor, and Fu Sheng, wearing his school uniform and carrying his schoolbag, came downstairs.
"Fu Sheng, I prepared a little extra today." His wife took out a lunchbox from the kitchen and handed it to Fu Sheng.
Without refusing, Fu Sheng picked up the lunchbox and walked out of the house.
"High school students face immense pressure, sometimes even more so than we do at work." Han Fei himself went through this, and he understands this deeply.
"You should eat quickly, you're going to be late."
Fu Sheng was the first to leave the house. After Han Fei left for work, his wife still had to take Fu Tian to kindergarten.
After quickly finishing the last bite of his meal, Han Fei picked up his briefcase and prepared to go to work as usual.
"Wait a minute." His wife suddenly called out to Han Fei. She wiped her hands and walked over to Han Fei, helping him straighten his shirt collar.
Seeing his wife's focused and attentive expression, Han Fei did not refuse her kindness.
"Let's go, be careful on the road."
"Don't worry, I'm going to work."
Han Fei quickly left, then checked the diagnosis report in his pants pocket. Relieved to find it was still there, he breathed a sigh of relief.
As Han Fei walked out of the residential area, he arrived at the bus stop. He watched as buses drove out of the station one by one, and the number of people around him dwindled until he was the only one left on the platform.
No job, no income, go to work? Where can I go to work?
“Fu Tian’s kindergarten is in the west, and his wife is responsible for picking him up and dropping him off every day. If I stay here, she might see me.”
Carrying his briefcase, Han Fei stepped off the bus and headed east.
He continued to pretend he was going to work, but ended up at a nearly abandoned small park on the east side.
With nowhere else to go, he sat on a park bench.
This place is rarely visited by people. It is lush with trees, flocks of birds fly overhead, and occasionally you can see squirrels leaping among the branches.
The morning sun shone on the weeds, and several stray cats lazily licked their fur. They were not afraid of people at all, as if this was their home.
"I'll stay here until I get off work."
Han Fei didn't know what to do. He had to repay the debts of his life, and he needed to take out 720,000 from his family's original savings.
Feeling a wave of weariness, Han Fei leaned back in his chair and looked up at the azure sky.
Whether in reality or in the deeper world, he has never had such an experience, and he rarely stops to sit quietly in a corner of the city like this.
After a while, Han Fei suddenly felt something brush against his arm.
He looked down and saw a stray cat jump onto the bench and lie down next to him. Its fluffy tail seemed to have its own mind, swaying back and forth.
"Am I taking your spot?" Han Fei was about to pet the cat's head when all the stray cats seemed to suddenly smell something. They all left Han Fei's side and ran to the other side of the bushes.
Somewhat puzzled, Han Fei stood up. Dressed in a suit and tie, he turned around and saw a high school student in a school uniform walking towards him with a freshly opened can of cat food.
Their eyes met, and both of them, their faces filled with surprise, said almost in unison:
"Didn't you go to school?"
"Didn't you go to work?"
Han Fei, dressed in a suit and tie, looked at Fu Sheng, who was wearing a school uniform. The father and son stood face to face in the small park.
The wind rustled the treetops, and dappled sunlight streamed down. The cats stared longingly at the can of cat food in Fu Sheng's hand, meowing incessantly, as if asking, "What are you doing?"
“I actually want to go to school every day, but I always hesitate when I get to the school gate and don’t want to go forward.” Fu Sheng put down the cat food can, and the stray cats all gathered around him: “Why don’t you go to work again?”
"I've been fired." Han Fei walked through the bushes and came over to Fu Sheng. He and Fu Sheng sat side by side on a park bench.
The father and son remained silent, watching the stray cats together.
“Sometimes I envy them. They don’t have to think about anything, they’re free and don’t need to know too much.” Fu Sheng stroked the chin of a stray cat. The cat seemed to like Fu Sheng very much and was particularly close to him.
"If you had a home, who would want to be a stray cat?" Han Fei is an orphan, and deep in his heart lies a longing for a home. It is this longing that makes him willing to protect his neighbors in Happiness Community, and protect those ghosts who treat him as family.
After the cats finished eating, some ran away immediately, some ignored people, and some lay still, like a furry ball that had lost its dreams.
Fu Sheng didn't go to school, and Han Fei didn't go to work. The father and son sat in the deserted park until noon. Although they didn't talk much, they felt much closer to each other. This was probably the longest they had spent alone together in a single day.
At noon, Fu Sheng took out his lunchbox from his schoolbag. He opened the lid and was about to eat when he suddenly noticed that Han Fei was watching him.
"Want to come together?"
"it is good."
"?"
Fu Sheng, holding the only chopsticks, shook his head: "Let's forget about it."
"Why are you asking me then, child?"
I thought you would refuse.
Hearing Fu Sheng's reply, Han Fei felt a long-lost sense of happiness.
"That little bit of food isn't enough. Stay here and don't move. I'll go buy you something." Han Fei patted his pockets and walked out of the small park.
Not long after, Han Fei returned carrying a large bag.
He placed the heavy bag on the bench, then leaned back, seemingly in a very good mood.
Fu Sheng curiously peeked into the bag, which contained all sorts of beer.
“Since the day I met you, I haven’t touched a drop of alcohol. I’m afraid I’ll be numbed by alcohol and make a mistake in judgment after midnight. You know, even the slightest deviation could kill me.” Han Fei opened a can of beer: “I’ve lost a lot, but I’ve also gained a lot. I don’t know whether I should thank you or hate you.”
The empty can flew through the air in an arc before Han Fei accurately tossed it into the trash can.
"I don't quite understand what you're talking about?" Fu Sheng's eyes were full of confusion.
"Generally speaking, I'm more inclined to thank you, which is why I'm here and doing all this." Han Fei opened another can of beer and glanced at Fu Sheng: "Want to try some?"
"No, thank you." Fu Sheng shook his head and focused on eating.
After finishing his meal, Fu Sheng washed the lunchbox and then sat on a bench to begin studying on his own.
Han Fei, for once, drank to his heart's content. He sat down next to Fu Sheng, near the center of the world, briefly relaxing his constantly tense nerves.
As the sun slowly set and the light dimmed, Fu Sheng put his textbooks and exercises back into his bag and glanced to the side.
Han Fei's suit was wrinkled and crumpled. He finished drinking all the wine in the bag and lay crookedly on the bench, as if he had fallen asleep.
Are you always tired?
Fu Sheng had never seen his father show this side of himself. In the past, his father's image in his mind was that of a stern, rude, and selfish man. Because his father was very capable, he was also very strict with his children. If they disobeyed in the slightest, he would scold and beat them.
But Fu Sheng didn't know when it started, he felt that his father seemed to have changed.
Perhaps it was because Fu Sheng saw his father stand up for him in the back alley that day, driving away all the thugs; perhaps it was because he overheard his father telling his mother on the phone that he had beaten up the principal; or perhaps it was because his father chose to believe him and ultimately helped the police clear the old principal's name.
The recent events flashed through Fu Sheng's mind, and it took him a long time to calm down.
The sun was about to set. Fu Sheng packed his schoolbag and then gently shook the sleeping Han Fei.
"Dad, it's time to go home."
