Chapter 64 The First Thing I Want You to Do

Chapter 64 The First Thing I Want You to Do
The human pupa's skin is covered with dense, blood vessel-like structures, from which it draws nutrients.

"An outsider broke into the residential compound and killed people, just to raise this thing?"

The human pupa in the bedroom was very different from the one in Han Fei's hand. He didn't dare to touch it casually, but instead found a broom and gently poked it a few times.

The outer skin of the pupa had become very thin, almost transparent. When Han Fei touched it with a broom, a dark shadow could be vaguely seen moving inside the pupa.

"I feel like what's inside is about to come out."

Perhaps because his level is too low, Han Fei now has to touch the target with his hand for the system to detect it.

He had no choice; in order to figure out what was so special about the pupa in front of him, he mustered up his courage and reached his hand into the pile of corpses.

Han Fei's fingertips avoided the corpse's remains. When his hand was still a few centimeters away from the pupa, a very thin blood thread suddenly emerged from below the pupa. The blood thread, like a silver needle, pierced directly into Han Fei's finger.

A sharp pain shot through him, and Han Fei quickly stopped.

The human pupa in room 1064 has absorbed a large amount of blood and has undergone some kind of change. Not only has the thing inside the pupa awakened, but it also seems to be able to sense the outside world.

"This thing seems to be intelligent; it's not like an ordinary insect." Han Fei looked at the wound on his fingertip. The wound wasn't big, but it was quite deep.

"It seems useless to me, and it's also very dangerous." Han Fei took out the lighter from his pocket. He originally carried it with him to light a cigarette in a critical moment.

"Are you an insect, a ghost, or something else?" A flickering flame appeared in the cold room, and Han Fei found some scrap paper and lit the broom.

His shadow on the wall flickered with the firelight. Han Fei held a burning broom in his right hand and slowly approached the pupa with his left.

"Try stabbing me again?"

The flickering firelight illuminated the pupa, and beneath its thin outer skin, a tiny black shadow trembled anxiously, but it had nowhere to escape.

As tiny blood vessels were burned off, Han Fei seemed to hear a scream, a sound that was both far and near, elusive and unpredictable.

"Is that you crying out?"

Han Fei remained unmoved. He held the lit broom above the pupa, and finally touched the blood-red human pupa with his other hand.

"Attention player number 0000! You have discovered a G-grade blood-red item—Human Pupa."

"Human pupa (blood-red item): The pupa of a certain insect, which has absorbed a large amount of blood and curses, and is making final preparations for breaking out of the pupa."

Looking at the larvae in the pile of corpses, Han Fei was conflicted.

The other party will soon emerge from the pupa. Taking it away now might affect its development. Han Fei was also very interested to see what would emerge from the pupa, since those outsiders had gone to great lengths to provide for the pupa.

But if Han Fei leaves the pupa here, he can't keep an eye on it all the time. What if it breaks out of the pupa and escapes?
Having Xu Qin keep an eye on things? That's not realistic.

“There are more than just those two outsiders on the sixth floor. I haven’t checked the other three rooms yet. If I leave it here, it will definitely be taken away by other outsiders.”

A few seconds later, Han Fei made a decision. He reached out and severed the blood vessels on the pupa's skin, then put it into his inventory.

As he ripped those blood vessels, the screams around him suddenly grew louder, and strange noises also came from other rooms on the sixth floor.

"Let's get out of here first. Even if we can log off at any time, it's still very dangerous to be trapped in a room."

Han Fei didn't want something he had found through his own efforts to be taken away by someone else, so he decisively left room 1064.

"I've basically searched through this house, there's nothing left to miss."

Back on the fifth floor, Han Fei gently knocked on the door of room 1052. He himself felt that he had come to the fifth floor a bit too often.

"Sister, I found another larva on the sixth floor."

After the door opened, Han Fei handed the pupa he found on the sixth floor to Xu Qin. Xu Qin was also curious about what would fly out of the pupa, and the two decided to keep the pupa in room 1051.

The creature inside the pupa was very intelligent. It sensed danger before entering room 1051 and kept screaming. Unfortunately, its actions only aroused Xu Qin's vigilance and curiosity.

“It’s like there’s a cursed ghost trapped inside the pupa; it’s very special.” Xu Qin personally delivered the pupa into room 1051: “Don’t worry, I’ll raise it.”

Back on the fourth floor, Han Fei didn't immediately go into his room. He thought about He Shouye and He Yuhuai.

Looking downstairs, Han Fei decided to take advantage of the fact that he could log out of the game at any time to go and see Ku one last time.

Upon descending to the third floor, Han Fei discovered that the door to room 1034, covered in talismans, was not closed, and a chilling aura emanated from it.

Feeling the coolness emanating from the landlord's ring, Han Fei hesitated again. Entering room 1034 last time was a near-death experience.

As he hesitated, the eerie footsteps in the hallway sounded again. This time, it seemed that the other party was heading straight for Han Fei, and the speed was even faster than last time.

"I knew I shouldn't linger in the hallway for too long."

Han Fei didn't dare to be presumptuous and went directly into the room where the crying was.

After closing the security door, Han Fei felt as if he had entered an ice cave. Looking at the shattered furniture and torn talismans scattered on the floor, he felt a little embarrassed.

He walked to the altar in the corner, and after the footsteps in the hallway disappeared, he asked softly, "Crying? Are you there?"

There was no response from inside the house; the girl, who longed for friends and companionship, seemed to have no desire to see Han Fei.

“We had some misunderstandings before, and I know some things about your story…” Seeing that the crying still hadn’t appeared, Han Fei retreated to the doorway and slowed his speech: “You should still remember the name He Yuhuai, right?”

Almost the instant Han Fei uttered those three words, the temperature inside the room plummeted, the scattered fragments of talismans and paper money on the ground rustled, and the faces of the paper figures all showed expressions of terror.

A withered arm stretched out from the shattered altar, and a blurry black shadow quietly emerged.

"Ku..." Han Fei wasn't putting on an act; he genuinely wanted to say something to Ku: "He Shouye is dead, but the crimes he committed haven't disappeared. There are vengeful spirits waiting for justice. Can I ask you some questions?"

Upon hearing He Shouye's name, the dark figure began to twist, and the faces of children appeared on its body. It scratched its body in extreme pain, and black blood splattered from it.

"Calm down! I won't ask anymore, just calm down."

The child's current state of pain was so intense that it felt as if every piece of flesh in his body was being ripped out. He seemed to utterly loathe this body that contained He Shouye's bloodline.

Han Fei simply couldn't imagine what kind of despair and pain he must have experienced before he cried, so that he would hate that person so much even after becoming a ghost.

"Cry, that person is dead, no one will hurt you anymore."

After learning about some of He Yuhuai's experiences, Han Fei felt great sympathy for the child.

He suppressed his fear and slowly approached the other person.

The thin, dark figure was frantically torturing himself in the cold, dark room. No matter what Han Fei said, he couldn't stop the crying from tearing itself apart. He watched the crying figure completely lose its mind and almost subconsciously made a move.

With outstretched arms, Han Fei stood beside the altar and gently embraced the girl who had been crying: "It's alright, it's really alright. I'll stay with you, okay?"

Black blood splattered onto Han Fei's body, causing him excruciating pain, but he did not let go.
His body was numb from the cold, but Han Fei's heart was warm. He didn't know why he did it.

He is very scared and upset, but what he wants most is to stop himself from crying.

In his view, crying did not mean he had done anything wrong; it was He Shouye who should suffer the pain.

It took several minutes for the crying to subside.

Han Fei was exhausted at this point, and he was no longer willing to press Ku for answers, as it would be too painful for Ku.

Slowly releasing his grip, the thin, dark figure remained standing beside the altar, making no reaction whatsoever.

“If you feel lonely in the future, I can come and keep you company. I will be your friend, the kind of true friend.” Seeing that Ku still did not respond, Han Fei sighed softly and walked towards the door.

Just as he was about to reach the door, Han Fei seemed to suddenly remember something. He turned to look at the lone girl standing in the corner of the room and said, "You lost the game of hide-and-seek. A bet is a bet. Do you remember that you promised to do three things for me?"

Only when the previous game of hide-and-seek was mentioned did the thin, dark figure react.

Seeing that he was finally willing to listen to him, Han Fei showed a gentle expression: "The first thing I need you to do is to never hurt yourself again, no matter what happens in the future."

She slowly raised her bowed head, and when she looked at Han Fei, Han Fei had already walked out of room 1034.

As Han Fei, exhausted, was about to head to the fourth floor, the system's voice suddenly rang in his mind.

"Attention Player 0000! He Yuhuai's friendliness has increased by five! Harmonious neighborly relations are the first step to a perfect life!"
