Chapter 718 The Strange Inheritance
Chapter 718 The Strange Inheritance
"The demons that are not under the control of Paradise are worth ten points; we only need to kill one more demon."
As the fog dissipated, Han Fei stood on the cracked road, gazing at the paradise at the end of the night.
"lets go."
After getting into the taxi, Han Fei took out the script. After flipping through it for a while, he recalled the scene he had seen when he died.
“Turn around, let’s go to Blue & White Tutoring Center.”
"Is this where taxi drivers hold their resurrection ceremonies?" Li Guo'er asked, puzzled. "What would they do there?"
“There’s a demon related to dreams hiding there; it killed me once.” Han Fei wasn’t simply looking for revenge; he planned to go and ask it some questions.
Several cars sped past, and Han Fei soon arrived at that familiar intersection again.
He had been chased to the brink of despair by a vengeful spirit and only managed to escape by taking advantage of the amusement park's bus. But just a few nights later, the situation had changed dramatically.
Having regained his memories, Han Fei exudes a chilling aura, and no matter how terrifying the ghosts or monsters are, they cannot frighten him.
"A cram school filled with blue and white flowers, a beauty salon burned down by fire, children as innocent as blank sheets of paper, and women with exquisite appearances—these are all the butterflies' favorites."
The more something is lacking, the more it will pursue. Butterflies are incredibly ugly, so they use every means to make their appearance perfect; their hearts are twisted and filthy to the extreme, making people want to vomit just by looking at them, so they especially like innocent and cute children.
"This building doesn't seem special at all. Could there really be evil spirits hiding inside?" Ah Chong led the citizens behind Han Fei, cautiously on guard.
“I remember it hiding here.” Han Fei patted Da Nie’s head: “Go knock on the door.”
"Should I go instead?" Ah Chong found it hard to imagine how Da Nie knocked on the door.
"Don't go over there, this building is dangerous." Han Fei had just finished speaking when a loud crash echoed through the street as Da Nie charged at full speed and crashed into the building's main entrance.
The iron gate flew several meters away, all the glass on the first floor of the building was shattered, and the flowers in the yard were trampled on. The blue and white petals filled the air, as if the building was crying.
"Wasn't it knocking too loudly?" Ah Chong was about to advise Han Fei, but what happened next made him shut up.
The petals fluttering in the air made strange sounds as they flew against the night wind toward Han Fei.
As they got closer, Ah Chong and the other survivors could see clearly that what they saw were not blue and white petals at all, but rather strange blue and white insects that resembled butterflies.
Holy crap! So many!
"Get back in the car! Quickly!"
The blue and white swarm of insects resembled dust in a dream; they were beautiful from afar, but incredibly ferocious up close, seemingly capable of devouring any living person caught in them.
"Ghosts, monsters, how many unknown things are still in this deep world?" Han Fei raised the Rebirth Slaughtering Blade in his hand, and a curse instantly enveloped his entire body. If he retreated, the survivors behind him would be exposed to the swarm of insects.
"The insects that Dream raises are just like herself: beautiful and dreamy on the outside, but ugly, dangerous, and repulsive in reality."
Han Fei charged forward against the swarm of insects. Without the curses of Wang Sheng and Xu Qin, he would have had no chance of survival on his own. However, fate had changed, and Meng missed the best opportunity to kill Han Fei.
With each swing of his sword, a large swarm of insects would be swept away from the sky. Han Fei and Da Nie worked together and dispersed the insect swarm in just over ten minutes.
Once the swarm's disguise was gone, the building in front of us revealed its true form.
The courtyard was utterly desolate. Beneath the cracked earth lay the corpses of children, pierced by the roots of some kind of black plant, which was also the nest of blue and white insects.
"This dream is utterly depraved, using children to feed butterflies." After it was safe outside, Ah Chong and the others got out of the car. If they hadn't run fast, they probably would have been swept away by the swarm of insects.
Han Fei ignored the survivors, staring intently at Da Nie, showing no intention of entering the building.
Whether the dream is one of the park's managers or a "ghost" born from the deeper world, one can never be too careful.
If the ghosts inside the building don't come out, then he'll send Da Nie to demolish the entire building; after all, destruction is always easier than reconstruction.
At Han Fei's signal, the Great Evil's long-suppressed destructive desires were fully unleashed. It climbed upwards layer by layer, its deathly aura surging across the building's walls, leaving a thick layer of misfortune in its wake.
Screams echoed continuously inside the building. Han Fei had no intention of leaving any survivors; he himself had been chased by the ghosts inside the building before.
When Da Nie climbed to the fourth floor, a piercing scream came from the Blue and White Tutoring Center, and a woman wearing a blue and white dress appeared at the window.
She was covered in blood, as if she had fallen from a great height. Her limbs were twisted, and bones pierced her skin, forming a pair of crooked and deformed wings on her back.
Upon seeing the great evil, the woman rushed towards it without hesitation. The two terrifying demons fell from the edge of the building and began to fight.
"What I remember seeing was a person who looked like a butterfly killing me, not this woman."
Gripping the Rebirth Knife tightly and pulling the red rope, Han Fei carefully observed his surroundings. He didn't find the butterfly, but unexpectedly discovered the man wearing the ghost mask standing on the street corner. The man seemed to have been secretly observing him all along.
"Could this damn manager be a dream in disguise?"
The two sides faced off across a long street until the Great Evil suppressed the evil spirit in the Blue and White Tutoring Center, violently smashing open the other's back.
The bones, which resembled white wings, shattered completely, and a red butterfly made of flesh and blood suddenly flew out from the back of the female ghost's heart.
With wings that resembled mucus spreading out and trailing strands of blood, the moment the fleshy butterfly appeared, the man wearing a ghost mask on the street corner immediately made his move.
It seemed he had been waiting for this moment all along, using his only remaining arm to throw his butcher's knife!
I don't know where he got his confidence from, but the butcher's knife easily pierced through the darkness, across the long street, instantly piercing the flesh-and-blood butterfly and pinning it to the withered soil in the garden.
After killing the flesh butterfly, the ghost-faced man seemed to have finally made a decision. He walked out from the dark street corner and no longer hid his existence.
Han Fei stopped the evil spirit that wanted to kill the one in the blue dress, and summoned it to his side. Together, the man and the ghost faced the man with the ghost face.
As the distance closed, the masked man entered the garden. Only after confirming that the meat butterfly had been killed did he sheathe his knife, crush the meat butterfly under his foot, and then wipe away the bloodstains from the knife bit by bit.
"Aren't you going to say anything?" Han Fei wore a white smiling mask, but his mask was different from everyone else's, including the administrators', with teardrops remaining in the corners of his eyes.
"I've been observing you for a long time, and I have a few questions for you. If you possessed the power to protect the weak, how would you use it?" The masked man's voice was mature and deep, like that of a middle-aged man who didn't like to talk.
"I will establish the most basic rules and use that power to uphold the bottom line for the weak."
"Just the bottom line?"
"Power cannot be abused. If the weak want to become strong, they need to fight for it themselves." Han Fei didn't say anything against his conscience just to please the other party. This is what he believed, and this is what he did.
"So how do you plan to set the rules?" The man with the ghost face was very interested in Han Fei.
“Establish a long-term goal so that I and everyone else can move toward this common goal, and then gradually build a framework so that everyone can perform their duties, allocate their interests, and then let them run this framework.”
"Let them run it themselves? And what about you?"
"I need to do everything in my power to help everyone achieve that goal, punish those who break the rules, eliminate unstable factors within the framework, and kill all those who and monsters that hinder our progress." Han Fei didn't know what the ghost-faced man wanted to ask; he was expressing his views on the future of the city, as well as some of his ideas for building the city in the Deep World.
"A dangerous idea. If only you had more compassion for the weak." The grimace-faced man's words carried a hint of disappointment.
"Of course I can sympathize with the weak, but the ghosts of the deep world will not sympathize with me." Han Fei walked directly towards the ghost-faced man: "Would a prisoner living in a dungeon rather receive a full meal occasionally given by others, or would he rather come with me to smash the cage and escape to the sunlit world outside?"
The man with the grimacing face didn't reply for a long time before finally speaking: "I don't know the answer either. Maybe everyone has their own choice."
“You’re wrong. Most people don’t even have a choice. They’re swept along and sinking. But I can give them that chance.” Han Fei had considered using violence to keep the ghost administrators in place, but the other party didn’t seem to have any ill intentions: “You’ve followed me all this way just to find out about this?”
“At first, I wanted to kill you because the dream used you as its shell, but I’ve changed my mind. After this city fell into chaos, only you have been constantly saving people, maintaining human dignity and the last vestiges of order.” The masked man took out his butcher’s knife again and said to Han Fei, “Besides you, there is no better candidate for now. I will keep this knife in my heart. If you can find it before I die, you will be its master.”
After saying his last words, the man with the grimacing face left in the direction of the amusement park.
"What does he mean? Does he want to pass on the legacy of the Paradise Ghost Administrator to me?" The Butcher's Blade is responsible for killing and punishment, and Han Fei himself happens to have a special Butcher's Blade.
