Chapter 91 Building Manager

Chapter 91 Building Manager
Hearing about Crying's experience, Han Fei was heartbroken.

However, amidst his grief, Han Fei was even more curious about what he had seen on the day he cried.
After he patiently questioned her, she gestured wildly with her hands and finally burst into tears.

"Don't cry, don't cry. I don't want to rub salt into your wounds. I just really want to know what's on the ninth floor. Actually, I'm planning to go to the ninth floor tonight too."

Upon hearing Han Fei say that he was also going to the ninth floor, the boy who had been waving his arms slowly stopped. He stared at Han Fei for a long time, and then wrote four words on Han Fei's palm: "Remember yourself."

"Remember yourself?"

Han Fei wanted to ask something more, but the crying disappeared from the altar as if avoiding a plague god.

"This child... is being too formal?"

Without leaving room 1034, Han Fei sat amidst a pile of talismans and paper figures, engaged in a fierce internal struggle.

"The last two pieces of the F-level mission, the human body puzzle, are on the ninth floor. If we can't find all the pieces tonight, the mission will fail, and all my previous efforts will be in vain."

"I want to save my roommates, and I need to restore their health. I want to figure out the secret hidden on the tenth floor, and I also need to go through the ninth floor, which means I will have to go to the ninth floor sooner or later."

Han Fei knew that the ninth floor was dangerous, but he didn't want to give up the F-level mission.

After considering it until 3 a.m., when the game's exit button lit up, Han Fei finally made up his mind.

"Go check the ninth floor first. If it's too dangerous, go to Yingyue's house for refuge. If that doesn't work, log off."

The F-level mission, the human body puzzle, has entered its final countdown. Han Fei walked out of room 1034 and headed upwards, preparing to try to reach the ninth floor.

The eerie footsteps did not sound, and Han Fei arrived at the eighth floor without any trouble.

He first greeted Ying Yue and opened the security door to her house. If danger arose later, he could skip even opening the door and simply escape inside.

After doing all this, Han Fei still didn't go upstairs. He leaned over the handrail in the stairwell and looked up through the gaps between the handrails.

There was nothing unusual on the ninth and tenth floors; they looked even safer than the other floors, just like any other old residential building.

The more ordinary and unremarkable things seemed, the more uneasy Han Fei felt. He didn't know where the vengeful ghost would appear from, and he couldn't even focus on any particular place.

Holding onto the handrail, Han Fei multitasked, keeping an eye on his surroundings while keeping a close eye on the game exit button.

"Go up and have a look."

Stepping onto the stairs leading to the ninth floor, Han Fei didn't notice anything wrong. The stairs were just ordinary stairs, there was no strange smell in the air, and he couldn't hear any odd noises.

After confirming there was no danger, Han Fei went to the area between the eighth and ninth floors, which was where he had cut off his own arms.

Standing at the corner between the two floors, Han Fei looked up at the four doors on the ninth floor.

The security door was ordinary; there was nothing on the door panel except for the room number. He took two more steps up and then noticed something strange.

There was a brazier outside the door of room 1091, containing unburnt paper money. Next to the brazier was a black framed photo containing a black and white portrait of a person without a face.

Something just doesn't feel right.

The black-and-white portrait without a face gave Han Fei a chilling feeling. After taking a closer look, he suddenly realized that the person in the portrait was wearing the exact same clothes as himself!
His legs involuntarily wanted to back away, but when Han Fei turned around, he found that the steps he had come from had disappeared, leaving only suffocating darkness behind him.

"Attention Player 0000! You have collected all of the Building Manager's relics, fulfilling the requirements and successfully triggering the F-level Manager quest—Building Manager!"

"Building Manager (F-level Manager Task): The basic responsibilities of a building manager are to understand and grasp the basic situation of the residents in the building, eliminate various safety hazards, coordinate family and neighborhood disputes, proactively resolve conflicts, provide assistance to vulnerable groups, and eliminate anyone who wants to become a building manager."

"Attention! Due to the significant difference between the player's level and the quest requirements, an additional quest prompt has been added!"

"In every building in this world, there exists the most cunning, cruel, insane, and terrifying being, whom some residents call the Administrator. Now you have only two paths before you: either be killed by him, or become him."

"Attention! Each manager's task is formed based on the memories and past of the previous manager. You will enter the manager's memories. There is no penalty for death here, but you will lose a part of your own memories each time you die."

"Attention! If you forget who you are while performing a mission, you will be permanently trapped in the manager's mission. You will become a part of the previous manager's memories, and it will be reborn through your body!"

The voice that suddenly appeared in his mind made Han Fei freeze on the spot: "An F-level manager mission? F-level missions are much more difficult than G-level missions, and manager missions seem to be much more difficult than ordinary missions. How difficult would it be if these two were combined?"

His escape route was swallowed by darkness, and the stairs had completely disappeared. Han Fei tried to walk into the darkness, but his health points would drop rapidly as soon as he got close.

Now he finally understood why no one who went up to the ninth floor ever came down again—because there was simply no way down!
With nowhere to retreat, Han Fei had no choice but to go up to the ninth floor, where he discovered something even more terrifying.

Turning my head to look upstairs, all I could see was a wall, as if the building didn't have a tenth floor at all, and the ninth floor was the top floor.

"The task prompt says that all manager tasks are formed based on the memories of the previous manager. Does that mean I might be pulled into the memories of a manager now? Can I only complete the task if I gain the approval of the previous manager?"

Taking a deep breath, Han Fei intended to organize his thoughts, but when he opened the attribute panel, he couldn't remain calm.

Next to his character's name, a new line of text appeared: "This player is in an abnormal state and cannot exit the game temporarily."

"Cannot exit?!"

Han Fei knew very well what those words meant. If he couldn't complete this F-level mission, he might be trapped here and die!
Feeling anxious and uneasy, it took Han Fei a long time to calm himself down. He squatted at the door of room 1091, where the person in the portrait had completely become himself.

"It's alright. As long as I complete the mission, I can leave. I should be able to do it." Han Fei stared at his portrait, in which he was smiling happily. He hadn't shown that kind of smile in a long time.

"In the Deep World, the normal missions are the easiest, followed by the hidden missions, and then the manager missions. Once you accept a manager mission, you will be in a special state. I feel that the manager missions should be the most core missions in the entire Deep World mission system!"

"If I can complete such a task, I will also be able to gain a greater understanding of the entire deep world."

Everything has two sides, good and bad. Han Fei did not wallow in despair; he knew that risk and reward were equal.
