Chapter 919 The Truth That Happened in the Future
Chapter 919 The Truth That Happened in the Future
An urgent email demanded that all available researchers immediately proceed to Laboratory Two; this was likely the start of a terrible day.
After closing the email, Han Fei took out the night patrol map. Laboratory No. 2 was located on the third underground floor and was the largest laboratory closest to the surface. It was mainly used to test the deep interaction between personality consciousness and intelligent devices and was jointly built by Deep Space Technology and Immortal Pharmaceuticals.
"The shrine is hidden on the nineteenth floor. My primary goal is to destroy the shrine, followed by destroying the statue of the god of happiness to regain my power, and finally, to find out the truth."
Han Fei glanced at the map; the Eternal Life Building had thirty-three floors above ground and eighteen floors underground.
"If the system is working correctly, the shrine should be upstairs, but what if the map is faulty and not fully displayed?"
Having entered so many shrine memory worlds, Han Fei had accumulated a wealth of experience. Most shrines were hidden in very secret places and would not be placed in such an obvious location as the nineteenth floor.
The alarm kept blaring, and before Han Fei could make a decision, footsteps suddenly came from the corridor outside, and then the door to the lounge was pushed open.
Han Fei turned his head and saw a middle-aged man with a serious face standing at the door. He originally wanted to scold Han Fei, but when he saw the A+ rating on Han Fei's identification card, his attitude immediately changed: "There has been a problem with the second phase of the Immortality Project. The higher-ups have sent all researchers over. I was worried that you might not have received the email, so I came over to tell you."
"Are you sure it was a person who notified all the researchers to go there?" Han Fei's question stunned the middle-aged man.
"What do you mean?"
"Could it be that something else is calling us? Trying to wipe us all out?" Han Fei stared at the middle-aged man, making the man feel uneasy.
"I don't understand what you're saying. I'm just here to convey what they want. They hope you can come over as soon as possible." After saying this, the middle-aged man left.
After tidying up all his belongings inside the room and having a hearty meal, Han Fei finally left the lounge.
His researchers' lounge was located on the second basement level. Because of a confidentiality agreement signed with Eternal Life Pharmaceuticals, they could not leave the building until the experiment was successful, and they had to live and eat in the basement.
The corridors are densely packed with surveillance cameras, and access control and sentry posts are set up every ten meters or so. The underground of the Yong Sheng Building is simply like a huge prison.
Many horror movie scenes are not as exaggerated as this place. The more Han Fei looked, the more frightened he became. It seemed that Yong Sheng Pharmaceutical was very afraid that something underground would come out, so it set up layers of protection.
"Is it really necessary to take such precautions just for brain experiments?"
Han Fei had only taken a few steps toward the corner of the corridor when the middle-aged man he had seen before reappeared. The man's expression was still serious, as if he were seeing Han Fei for the first time: "Hello, there has been a problem with the second phase of the Immortality Project. The leadership requires all researchers to go to Laboratory No. 2 as soon as possible."
With almost identical words and the same tone, the middle-aged man looked Han Fei straight in the eye, holding a red folder in his hand.
“You…” Han Fei stared at the other man’s face. The middle-aged man’s features had not changed at all compared to before, but after looking at them for a while, he felt that something was not right.
I can't quite put my finger on what's wrong, but staring at it makes me feel uncomfortable.
"The problems in the second phase are very serious; you need to get there as soon as possible." The middle-aged man urged Han Fei again before taking the file bag and heading towards another researchers' lounge.
"Didn't I just meet him? If the man I met the first time was real, then what is this thing?" Han Fei indeed possessed the exploratory and practical spirit of an A-level researcher. He took out the Rebirth Slaughtering Knife from his inventory and quietly followed behind the middle-aged man.
The man kept repeating similar phrases as he knocked on the door and notified all available researchers to assemble.
"In the underground laboratory, there is something that looks a lot like a human, but it's not human?" Han Fei gradually discovered the problem through observation.
Relying on his almost superhuman physical abilities, he launched a sneak attack from behind and subdued the middle-aged man in just a few seconds: "Don't move!"
Han Fei had a special method of identification. He slashed the middle-aged man's arm with the Rebirth Butcher's Knife. The bright blade easily cut through the man's skin, but strangely, no blood flowed from the wound.
Upon realizing he had been exposed, the middle-aged man's body instantly unleashed power far exceeding that of a normal person. It seemed as if there was a hidden face inside his mouth, and that new face was slowly growing outwards.
Han Fei's body was thrown into the air. He landed to dissipate the force and, no longer holding back, swung his sword directly at the middle-aged man's neck.
Few researchers are as skilled in combat as Han Fei, and almost no one carries a butcher's knife or paper doll with them when they come to work.
The middle-aged man never expected Han Fei to be so strong. He had just raised his hands when his head rolled to the ground.
His hands, waving aimlessly, reached for his neck. The middle-aged man's neck had no flesh and blood, only rings of patterns resembling tree rings.
The severed head showed a terrified expression, its mouth wide open as if pleading for help, but the sounds it made were inaudible to ordinary people.
Cut the weeds and eliminate the roots. Han Fei chased after the direction the head rolled, but after running around a corner, the head disappeared. Even Han Fei, who had a talent for hide-and-seek, couldn't find it.
"That thing is definitely not human. What exactly is Yong Sheng Pharmaceuticals experimenting with underground?"
Returning the way he came, when Han Fei arrived back at the place where he had fought with the middle-aged man, the corpse on the ground was gone, leaving only a pile of debris.
Looking at the claw marks remaining among the debris, Han Fei gestured with his hand: "The corpse was eaten by some kind of large wild beast?"
The Eternal Life Building is the closest place to reality. The day that everyone is most excited and looking forward to is looped inside the building. Everything that happens here is something that has already happened or is about to happen in reality. In other words, when Han Fei saw these monsters, it means that Eternal Life Pharmaceuticals is indeed conducting similar experiments in reality.
"It turns out my life is even more terrifying than the deeper world, I just didn't know it."
Han Fei picked up the red file bag, which contained a lot of researchers' personal information and their photos. However, many of the researchers' photos looked strange, such as the middle-aged man's.
The alarm grew more urgent, and Han Fei didn't take the elevator; he habitually wanted to take the stairs.
After searching for a long time, Han Fei finally broke the lock on the security door and discovered that there was no road outside, only a steel plate of unknown thickness.
"Was there originally no road? Or were all passageways blocked due to an emergency warning?"
With no other option, Han Fei went to the elevator lobby, where other researchers were waiting. He silently memorized each person's appearance.
"Most of them are still normal."
The elevator doors opened, and the researchers rushed inside, but Han Fei remained outside.
"Come in! Hurry up! Don't waste time!" Someone impatiently waved to Han Fei, while others tried to pull him inside.
"I forgot to take a very important experimental record." Han Fei pretended to have something to do and ran outside.
He stopped after the elevator doors closed and looked back. The numbers on the elevator display screen changed rapidly, going from -2 to -18 in the blink of an eye.
"Laboratory No. 2 is on the third basement level. Who pressed the button for the eighteenth basement level? Or is there something on the eighteenth basement level that wants them to go there?"
Just then, another elevator next to it opened, and a blast of cold air rushed out.
Han Fei realized that he seemed to have no other choice. The emergency exits were blocked, and the only way to go to other floors was by taking the elevator.
"Sacrificing myself for eternal life has given me five chances to escape death, so taking the elevator shouldn't be a problem."
Even with five lives, the extremely cautious Han Fei still did not choose to enter the elevator directly. He spent twenty minutes searching the second basement level before returning to the elevator after confirming that there was no other way out.
Han Fei pressed the button to go to the third basement level and squatted in the corner of the elevator, holding the paper figure.
The elevator doors closed slowly, and when they reopened, he had successfully arrived at the third basement level.
The alarm continued to sound, but not a single living person could be seen.
"Logically, the place where all the researchers gathered should be very 'lively,' where everyone should be discussing how to solve the problems encountered in the second phase. But only twenty minutes have passed, and it feels like everyone has disappeared?"
Han Fei concealed the Resurrection Blade in his sleeve and followed the route on the night patrol map along the clean and tidy metal pavement to the entrance of Laboratory No. 2.
Han Fei took out his Class A access card and opened the metal door. In front of him appeared a series of transparent treatment chambers. The test subjects inside the chambers were connected and fixed by countless pipes. Some had their brains cut open, while others were like fish, their mouths opening and closing constantly, as if they were silently crying for help.
As Han Fei walked past the treatment chamber, he noticed that almost all the test subjects were in poor physical condition. They were not receiving any treatment at all; the equipment was merely maintaining their basic activity.
Did the children in the orphanage also experience these things?
Han Fei found the main control panel in the lab. As soon as he sat down, he saw a sentence scrawled in red ink on the screen: "The game 'Perfect Life' has an unfixable vulnerability! I have a terrifying suspicion: it might have betrayed us! Whoever you are, you must pass on this message! We might have all been deceived!"
The writer seemed to have little time, writing very quickly; some characters were illegible without careful examination.
"The computer is right here, why do you need to write a message with a pen?"
While Han Fei was still speculating, another urgent message suddenly popped up on the main control screen.
"On Thursday, [Month] [Day], at 9:46 AM, the game 'Perfect Life' is running normally. The number of brain-dead individuals among those under close monitoring has increased to 51! All available researchers are requested to proceed immediately to Laboratory Two!"
Looking at the message saying that "Perfect Life" was running normally, Han Fei gently touched the main control screen: "There is a discrepancy between the messages and emails. Could it be that the system is deceiving the researchers? Or is someone with higher privileges deliberately releasing false information?"
I highly recommend Vera's daily writing, "I Invent Things at Hogwarts".
After Riggs joined Hogwarts, the pressure shifted to Azkaban.
When Voldemort broke free, he was defeated by Harry Potter with a single electromagnetic cannon shot.
"Rig, this is much better than a wand!"
