The Walking Dead: Rebuild

Chapter 4 Human's Hope

Chapter 4 Human's Hope

Hearing this voice, Dr. Jenner was a little stunned. After the army and other researchers left one after another, except for the couple, they had not heard anyone else's voice for a week.

The sound in the headset didn't stop.

"Hey!"

"anyone here?"

"I'm Leoncaster."

"I want to talk to you."

Dr. Jenner held the headset but did not answer. He raised his head, looked at his wife, and asked at a loss:

"Melfa, what should we do?"

"Do you want to answer him?"

Dr. Melfa approached the screen in silence, bent down, stared at the figure who suddenly appeared on it, and observed carefully.

He is in his 20s, about 1.9 meters tall, with a strong build and handsome appearance. He is wearing police anti-riot armor, with a gray-green county police uniform underneath.

He was holding a modified baseball bat in his hand, and the bat was densely covered with blood stains.

Melfa frowned and controlled the camera to look around the square in front of the door.

What surprised her was that all the seven or eight zombies that had been wandering in the square during this period had been killed.

Melfa pondered for half a minute, turned on the switch on the headset, lowered the volume, and said in a low voice:
"I'm Melfa Pascal, director of research at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta."

"Mr. Lyoncastle, may I ask, what is your purpose of coming here?"

----split line----

Huh, there is finally a response. If there is no response, I will have to wait for a while and violently open the door.

Leon felt happy in his heart. He raised his head, faced the camera, and spoke in a steady voice, word for word:

"Good afternoon, Dr. Melfa, I'm Leon Custer."

"I am here to discuss with you a cooperation that is beneficial to both parties."

The female voice on the speaker was silent for a few seconds, and then asked in a calm tone:
"Cooperation? Sorry, Mr. Custer, I don't understand what you mean."

"This is one of the most professional germ research institutions in the United States. We have nothing to cooperate with you personally."

After listening to this, Leon's expression remained unchanged and he said with determination:

"No, Dr. Melfa, I know very well that you are in desperate need of help right now."

"The CDC's supplies are already seriously insufficient."

"How long can your food and your electricity last?"

"Without outside help, do you want to stay inside and wait to die?"

The voice on the loudspeaker fell silent, and after dozens of seconds, he spoke again:

"Mr. Custer, how did you know this information?"

Leon shook his head.

"It's not important, Dr. Melfa, but I can tell you."

"On the way to Atlanta, I met a researcher who fled. He was bitten by a zombie. I didn't know his name, but before he died, I learned this information from him."

There was a moment of silence on the loudspeaker before he spoke:

"Just pretend it's true."

"Mr. Custer, you should know better than we do about the situation outside. The CDC does need a large amount of supplies and needs long-term and stable supply."

"But, with your own personal power, it is basically impossible to accomplish it."

"Furthermore, the CDC is a research institution. Even if we obtain sufficient supplies, we cannot provide you with any help beyond scientific research on germs."

"As I said before, we don't seem to have anywhere to work together."

Leon laughed, then suppressed his smile and said with a solemn expression:

"Indeed, as far as the current situation is concerned, there is basically nothing you can do to help me."

"But I know that the CDC in Atlanta is probably one of the few germ research institutions left in the world."

"If we lose this place again, humans will probably never be able to defeat the zombie virus again."

"I will do my best to build a gathering place in Atlanta to gather those good people who are struggling in the disaster." "We work together to support each other, defeat those damn zombies, rebuild our homes, and protect the hope of mankind. .”

Leon's eyes were firm and he stared at the camera, as if he could see the person opposite him through the lens.

"Dr. Melfa, will you believe me?"

"Be my companion."

"Are you willing to take a gamble for the future of mankind?"

This is also my goal.

The female voice on the speaker was silent for nearly a minute before speaking hoarsely:

"What a great idea."

"Mr. Lyoncastle, we can't just take your word for it?"

"But, as you said, for the future of mankind, I am willing to try it once."

Click, click, the armored door at the gate was slowly opened.

"Come in, Mr. Custer, let's talk in detail about the cooperation you mentioned."

----Dividing line-----

Dr. Melfa is probably in her 40s, with an ordinary appearance and a serious expression. The most impressive thing is her pair of deep and lively light blue eyes.

After Lyon entered the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, this shrewd and capable research director had no reservations. She introduced Lyon to the current situation of the base in great detail, including material reserves, various equipment and machinery, and the current progress of virus research.

"In other words, what you are most in need of right now are virus samples, followed by a large amount of diesel or gasoline needed for generators?"

In the conference room, Leon crossed his arms and sat on a leather chair, asking with a serious expression.

"Yes, at present, the base's power supply can last for about 30 days, and due to the deaths and escapes of a large number of researchers, we have relatively sufficient food and daily necessities, which can supply 100 people for about three months."

"And we have exhausted all the most important virus samples."

"Without virus samples, all relevant research will come to a standstill."

After finishing speaking, Dr. Melfa knocked on the table and said in a somewhat urgent voice.

"So, Mr. Custer, we need you to get us new virus samples as soon as possible."

"For every minute of delay, the antibody serum will be successful one minute later in the future."

"I know it's very dangerous out there, but..."

Leon shook his head indifferently and said sincerely:

"It's okay, Dr. Melfa, that's exactly why I'm here."

"Don't worry about my safety. I have been living alone in the outside environment for a month and know how to protect myself."

"You just need to tell me how to get those samples."

When she heard that Leon had been living alone outside for a month, Melfa's expression changed slightly. Her tone became warmer and she said:

"Your abilities are admirable, Mr. Custer."

"We currently need four virus samples."

"They are the blood and DNA of ordinary humans living in the outside environment, the brain tissue and flesh and blood of zombies that are still active, and the brain tissue and flesh and blood of dead zombies."

"As well as living human brain tissue and blood DNA infected by zombie viruses."

Leon frowned, and just when he was about to speak, Dr. Melfa continued:

"Of course, I don't force a fourth virus sample, but I hope that if conditions permit, you can help us get it. This is very important for the study of zombie viruses."

"The more hosts each virus sample has, the better. It is best not to have less than ten for each virus sample."

"These samples need to be replaced every half month."

"This is a long-term mission."

"Today's task is just to collect virus samples for us from the few people who just died in the square."

Leon nodded, this task was not difficult for him.

"I'll collect those samples before dark."

"Now, let's discuss my conditions."
