Chapter 827 The Battle for Valhalla

Midgard, highland forest.

Kratos's home.

The father and son were busy with their work in a mundane and ordinary way.

Since the onset of Fimbulb winter, the weather in Midgard has become colder day by day, and more and more snow has fallen. Before the previous day's snow could melt, new snowflakes had already fallen and piled up.

In such severe cold, even the surface of the Lake of Nine Realms was covered with a thin layer of frost.

Of course, Kratos and his son didn't just wait for the lake to freeze over; instead, they made the most of the time by completing various commissions, which are essentially side quests in the game.

Atreus still needed training, and Kratos also hoped to gather enough supplies to help them survive the cold before the snow blocked Midgard.

So in the nearly two months since returning from Jotunheim, the father and son have completed all the main storylines in the game except for those related to Valkyries, and have even gone a step further by finding more minor events and acquiring additional resources.

Needless to say, he also found Andvari's hammer for Brock, retrieved Fafnir's whetstone for Sindri, and even found the raw materials that the former dwarf king had collected, which were intended to be used to forge the legendary dwarf armor.

The three materials are "Dragon's Wrath," "The Cry of the Innocent," and "Ultimate Sacrifice."

Clearly, these are all conceptual items without any physical form, yet they can serve as raw materials for dwarves to forge weapons and equipment. The dwarf masters of the Nine Realms possess this ability.

However, after collecting the three legendary materials, along with many other rare resources, Kratos thought for a moment but decided not to use them to forge his armor.

Atreus asked him, "It's quite a lot of work for us to collect these, why don't you use them to make armor?"

Kratos replied, "I've done what I needed to do; better armor doesn't mean much to me."

“Li You said before that he wanted to forge a suitable set of armor. It would be better to leave these materials to him. He has his own goals and needs them more than I do.”

Atreus suddenly realized: "I see. Father, you feel that Li You has helped us so much, but we haven't properly thanked him, so you want to give these things to him, right?"

Kratos didn't say anything, but that was tantamount to him acquiescing.

Atreus smiled and said, "I understand. No wonder you not only didn't use it, but also left the materials with Brock and the others. That way, they can give them directly to Li You next time they see him."

"...Enough with the small talk, get back to training."

Kratos didn't reply, but instead urged Atreus to continue his combat training. As for himself, he was currently wielding the Leviathan Axe, chopping the firewood that had been dragged back earlier.

"Click——"

This legendary weapon, which could rival Mjolnir, was used as an ordinary wood-chopping axe, easily splitting apart the iron-hard wood with just a few swings.

Originally, the father and son would have continued living like this. In this timeline, without Freya's pursuit, their lives would probably be much easier.

It wasn't until Atreus grew up and developed his own ideas that he wanted to find out more secrets about the giants.

However, the trajectory of this story was completely disrupted by the arrival of a group of uninvited guests.

In Kratos's front yard, a spatial rift suddenly appeared out of thin air, and then a golden-red figure flew out from it.

Kratos immediately raised his battle axe warily, but Atreus reacted faster, stopping his father: "Wait! She looks like... a Valkyrie?"

Needless to say, the visitor was none other than Sigriun.

Despite her immense strength and high status, this Valkyrie Queen seems to be turning into a workaholic, always taking the lead in every major event.

Sigriun was also injured at this moment. She looked at Kratos and his son, especially at Kratos and the battle axe in his hand, before letting out a sigh of relief and saying:
“Looks like I haven’t come to the wrong place. You are… Kratos and Atreus, right? I’m Mimir’s friend, is he here?”

At that moment, Mimir's voice came from inside the cabin: "Sigriun? What happened? Why are you here?"

Seeing that Mimir indeed knew the Valkyrie, Kratos felt somewhat relieved and gestured to Atreus with his eyes, signaling him to go back inside and retrieve Mimir's head.

Upon seeing Sigriun, Mimir was taken aback: "You're injured? What happened?"

Sigrun sighed. "That's exactly why I'm seeking help."

She then selectively explained her reasons for coming to Mimir and Kratos.

—This happened immediately after Sigraune and Freya returned to Valhalla to provide assistance.

Although Freya's vines had controlled everyone except Heimdall, it didn't mean they had the victory in the bag.

There are two main problems. First, since this place has already been exposed to Odin's view, simply subduing the two newly promoted Valkyries and those Heroic Spirit Captains will not be enough.

With the Rainbow Bridge in place, Odin can send more undead warriors onto this small island at any time; his warriors are endless.

Secondly, even if Odin doesn't deploy more troops, Freya and the others still won't be able to handle Heimdall alone.

This doesn't mean that Freya, Sigraune, and the four Valkyries combined are no match for Heimdall.

In terms of combat strength alone, Freya in her prime could be his equal, and Sigurd was not much different from him either. With the support of her four sisters, she was not afraid of Heimdall either.

The problem is that Heimdall's innate abilities make him too difficult to deal with in battles against opponents of the same level.

His ability to see through others' mental landscape and predict their next move allows him to easily hold them off even if he can't defeat them, without suffering too much loss.

Therefore, even though Freya seemed to have broken Odin's curse and could attack without restraint, and with the cooperation of Sigriun and the others, she still couldn't really inflict serious damage on Heimdall, let alone kill him.

If the battle drags on, there will only be one outcome: Freya's binding spell will expire and dissipate on its own, allowing the two newly recruited Valkyries and the Heroic Spirit Captains to break free of their restraints and join the siege.

Clearly, there was no chance of winning at this point. Freya had originally wanted to try to take down Heimdall as soon as possible, but seeing that things were not going to work out, she did not force the issue.

She had not forgotten why Sigriun had asked her to return. Before taking action, she had already examined the anomalies in Valhalla and drawn her own conclusions.

The current anomaly in Valhalla is likely the result of interference from different forces, both internal and external. Its operating rules have undergone a significant change, effectively isolating it from the outside world. This is why even the Valkyrie Queen Sigurd is unable to activate it.

This rule change may not be permanent, but it probably won't revert to its original state until Li You gets away. Therefore, Sigurd and the others don't need to worry for now, especially since even if Freya were there, there really couldn't be anything she could do.

Hilde and the others originally chose to hold their ground because they were worried that if the island were occupied, Li You would be surrounded after he came out. Now that they know that they are isolated from the outside world, there is no need to defend this place to the death.

Having resolved the sisters' inner conflicts and realizing the unfavorable situation in the battle, Freya suppressed her anger towards Heimdall, allowing Sigurd and the others to find an opportunity to disperse. She herself also found a chance to successfully escape the battlefield.

Sigriun sent her sisters away to escape Odin's pursuit, while she herself shook off Rist and Mist who were following behind her, and rushed to Midgard to seek help.

Then, he met with Kratos and the others.

After listening to her account, Mimir frowned. Although Sigrun had omitted some details, as someone who knew the whole story, he understood the problem.

Originally, Li You intended to use Valhalla to find the path to godhood, and Tyr also entered it to prepare. However, Valhalla has now undergone a strange change, and both of them are trapped inside, isolated from the outside world.

With Li You and Tyr both absent, their plans for Ragnarok were completely disrupted.

From this, he could roughly guess Sigurd's thoughts: "You want to open the gates of Valhalla, or at least make contact with... Li You?"

Sigrun nodded: "At least if we can get in touch, we can figure out what preparations to make next."

However, while the two of them knew the inside story, Kratos and his son Atreus were completely clueless, missing too much crucial information.

"What exactly happened? Is there something you haven't told us?" Kratos immediately asked.

Mimir and Sigrun both looked at him. Mimir thought for a moment and then said, "Actually, it's about the matter that Li You asked me to help with before. We are actually preparing for the inevitable Ragnarok. Li You and... another of our companions have devised a plan, and for this purpose, they are going to Valhalla."

"But as you have heard, something has happened at Valhalla. Not only is it isolated from the outside world, but the area outside Valhalla has also been occupied by Odin's people."

"That's the situation, so Siegrun is thinking... Kratos? What are you doing?"

Kratos didn't even listen to his follow-up explanation before turning around and returning to the cabin, leaving Mimir, Sigriun, and Atreus looking at each other in bewilderment.

"He is..."

Atreus simply shrugged.

Soon, the wooden door was pushed open, and Kratos came out again.

This time, however, he donned battle armor, slung the Blade of Chaos over his back, and carried the Leviathan Axe in his hand.

"……let's go."

Not to mention Sigrun, even Mimir was stunned: "Brother, you... I haven't explained it clearly yet."

Kratos stated directly, "I already know the necessary details. Li You is trapped in Valhalla, and Freya tried to go help him but failed—that's enough."

He slung the Leviathan Axe back over his back: "Since they both need it, let's go help them."

Mimir looked at him and then laughed: "Yeah, brother, that's just how you are."

Looking at Kratos and Atreus, Sigurd understood a lot of things: "In that case, let's go."

“However, I need to explain in advance that we need to find Freya first. Before that, I had already helped her break the curse placed on her by Odin and retrieved the Valkyrie Wings for her. As long as she is still in Midgard, her power has basically been fully restored.”

She said this to remind Kratos that she was now fully capable of avenging her son Baldr, but Kratos remained unmoved: "Let's go."

“Okay, then follow me.” Sigrun nodded.

……

Meanwhile, outside Valhalla.

Heimdall, the two Valkyries, and the heroic warriors have completely occupied this place.

Although they failed to catch up with Sigriun and the others who had escaped, that wasn't their primary objective anyway. Before this trip, Odin had instructed them that the most crucial task was to control Valhalla.

At this moment, Heimdall was standing on the black sand beach, looking at Rist and Mist with a bored expression, studying the gates of Valhalla.

"...I'm telling you, you two have been looking for so long, have you finally found a way to activate it?"

Rist and Mist were both somewhat anxious, but still answered, "Well... Valhalla requires at least three people, including the Valkyrie King, to open, so..."

"Alright," Heimdall waved his hand. "I don't want to hear any more nonsense. The Allfather is coming soon; go and explain to him."

Both newly crowned Valkyries were taken aback.

Before they could examine the situation further, a flock of ravens appeared on the other side of the beach. After the ravens dispersed, Odin himself appeared before them, accompanied by the Valkyrie Gnar, who had changed into a light green outfit.

"Father of the Gods".

Everyone, including Heimdall, bowed to Odin.

Odin didn't even glance at the others, and went straight to asking Rest and Mist: "How's the situation? Have you figured anything out?"

The two replied, "What we can confirm at this moment is that someone is in Valhalla. However, for some reason, even the two of us combined cannot see the specifics clearly."

Odin listened without saying much, but glanced at Gnar behind him and gestured with his eyes. Gnar then went to the gates of Valhalla, carefully sensed the area with her power, and finally returned to Odin, respectfully saying:
"Father of the Gods. There are indeed some strange changes happening in Valhalla at the moment. Even with the power of us Valkyries, we cannot open it or see what is going on inside."

This time, Odin's brow furrowed noticeably. However, after glancing at Gnar, Rist, and Mist, he said nothing, only asking:

"You say that Valhalla is currently sealed off and you can't open it, but what if you force it open with external force?"

Genna, Rist and Mister were all stunned by what they heard, but before they could answer, a loud rumble of thunder came from the distant horizon!

"Boom--!!"
