Chapter 883 Asgard Prepares for War

Asgard.

The once "peaceful and harmonious" village has now completely changed.

In Gladesheim, many buildings and residences have been demolished, leaving a large open space in front of Odin's large wooden house, which has now been turned into temporary barracks.

Most of these spaces are not intended for the heroic warriors, as another part of the Hall of Heroes is located in a corner of Gladesheim. These vacant spaces are mostly reserved for dwarven blacksmiths, as well as support personnel from other races.

In preparation for the war of Ragnarok, the entire Asgard is now fully mobilized and making final preparations.

Between the various makeshift blacksmith shops and warehouses, between the warehouses and Valhalla, and even between the inner and outer walls of Asgard, people of all races came and went, mingling together and bustling about.

At that moment, in the procession of people transporting supplies, Skild was carrying a bag of unknown metal parts, mingling in the procession as they walked towards the outer walls of Asgard.

Not only him, but also the team he was in, most of whose members were ordinary humans.

These people are refugees from Midgard, after all, Midgard had experienced a great famine some years ago, and Kratos and his son in the game also encountered ghosts who died in the famine.

These people had sought help from Odin during the great famine, and Odin, in a moment of kindness, took them to Asgard and allowed them to settle down.

The Father of the Gods did indeed save these refugees from their dire straits, but don't ask why they were in such dire straits.

In short, the Skelders were among the refugees who had been permitted by the "Father of the Gods" to live outside the Wall of Harindor, where they built their own homes.

However, now, the entire Asgard is preparing for Ragnarok, and the villagers have been conscripted to become support personnel.

Skelder is not old, about the same age as Atreus and Slud, but now she is also being used as a laborer, transporting supplies with the others.

The team moved with great effort, each carrying a considerable amount of supplies. Even though the mortals living in the Nine Realms were not the same as ordinary mortals, their hard work over the past few days had brought them close to their limits.

But no one dared to stop, because two heroic warriors were watching over them from the front and back, ensuring that they could deliver the necessary supplies on time.

As they struggled forward, they would occasionally brush past other groups. Some of these groups were of the same race as them, while others were different, but when their eyes met, they all saw the same weariness and numbness in each other's eyes.

Skild didn't know when he finished his work for the day. He only remembered that he and the others were doing the most meaningless, repetitive, and tedious work almost without a break, until nightfall.

Finally, it was only when most of the adults in the team were too exhausted to continue that the heroic warriors allowed their squad to rest.

Skild and the others returned to their shack built against the outer wall—all the buildings outside that used to belong to them had been requisitioned and were no longer their homes.

Just like his job, Skildt didn't remember how he got into bed. The only thing he remembered was that he seemed to have eaten dinner in a daze—a few pieces of dried, unknown plant roots—but the hunger in his stomach was still unbearable.

However, after he fell into a deep sleep, he suddenly felt a warm current surging from beneath the ground. The temperature was like a mother's embrace, which finally relieved his exhaustion.

Skild wrapped himself tighter in the blanket, his brow finally relaxing as he drifted into a peaceful sleep.

Similar things happened in every inhabited shack in this area, but no one noticed what was going on.

A moment later, a faint golden light drifted out from the area, flying slowly but swiftly through the air towards the large wooden house. Finally, it entered the ground floor of the house, flew into the master bedroom, and merged with a blonde goddess who was sitting on the edge of the bed with her eyes closed.

Sif, Thor's wife.

After the golden light returned, Sif opened her eyes.

She glanced at the empty bed beside her and sighed silently.

The last time Thor forced Atreus away, ruining the Allfather's plans, he didn't escape easily.

He was scolded and beaten by the Father of the Gods, the man who was both his chief god and his father. He showed no mercy to Thor and, in the open space in front of the large wooden house, lashed Thor with a long whip made of divine power, tearing his clothes, burning his hair, and tearing his skin.

Odin's reaction is indeed different from that in the game, but in the game, he gently put Thor down because he had a backup plan, namely the fake Tyr who had been hiding in Sindri's house.

But he wasn't prepared for that. Once the mask was lost, it was truly lost, which naturally enraged Odin.

As always, Saul offered no resistance to his scolding and beatings.

But that wasn't the end of it. After tormenting Thor and humiliating him, Odin imprisoned him, and no one was allowed to release him without the permission of the Allfather.

So after that, Sif and her daughter Sloth never saw Thor again.

Slud is still young and doesn't understand many things, and Sif can't possibly tell her everything.

So in the end, she could only train even harder, hoping to become stronger and be able to help her grandfather so that perhaps he would release her father.

But Sif was certainly not as naive as Slud. Ever since she and Thor used the Atreus affair to test Odin, she had given up all illusions about this nominal patriarch.

Sif has come to realize that Odin doesn't care about his family at all, let alone expect his protection.

Ragnarok is approaching, and Odin will become increasingly ruthless. All they can do now is protect themselves.

So lately, Sif has been secretly investigating various parts of Gladesheim using her divine powers.

She wanted to see what Odin had done to the "Land of Joy" and also to find out where Thor was imprisoned.

Yes, she didn't even know where Thor was being held.

If nothing is done, Thor will probably only be released by Odin and allowed to take his hammer to the battlefield when Ragnarok truly arrives.

As for helping the mortals from Midgard and the dwarves from Svartalfheim during the exploration, that was just something Sif did on a whim.

In the past, she wouldn't have paid much attention to the life and death of these mortals, but it was her current experience that made her feel compassion.

After all, from Odin's perspective, his family and these mortals were no different in essence, except for the strength of the power they possessed.

Sif pondered silently, wondering where Odin had imprisoned Thor.

She had already explored almost every part of Gladesheim during this time, but still found nothing.

The remaining areas are only the other part of Valhalla located deep within Gladesheim, and... the prison where Tyr and Li You were once imprisoned. Sif could never possibly infiltrate the former, and as for the latter... she sincerely hoped that Odin hadn't imprisoned Thor, his own son, in such a place.

But at this point, she had no choice but to try to explore the prison.

Heavy footsteps echoed in the hallway outside the room, but the person didn't approach. Instead, they entered a room and, with two muffled thuds, seemed to throw themselves onto the bed.

Actually, it goes without saying that the only one who would return at this time is Slud, who has just finished training.

Sif felt sorry for her as she trained so hard these days, but she couldn't stop her.

Just like now, she didn't go to check on her daughter's condition. Instead, she calmed down, released the divine power she had used before, and moved towards the prison.

Although Sif is not skilled in combat, she is undeniably a god. This divine light is extremely well concealed; unless one's divine power surpasses hers, or they possess special abilities or magical barriers, no one else can see through it.

Therefore, it was as if the divine light of Sif's clone traveled unimpeded and quickly reached the vicinity of the prison.

Sif glanced at the not-so-heavy guards at the entrance and decided to slip inside.

However, at that moment, she heard a faint voice in her ear!
"...If I were you, I wouldn't go in there."

The voice was deep and calm, and quite pleasant to hear, but it was like a thunderclap that exploded in Sif's ears!

For a moment, she almost lost the ability to maintain the invisibility of this divine light, and she used her divine sense to search around, trying to find where the speaker was.

"Above your head."

Sif subconsciously focused her mental energy upwards, and then saw a silver beetle smaller than a grain of rice flying above her ball of divine power; the voice she had just heard came from it.

"You are……?"

Although Sif was extremely surprised, seeing that the other party seemed to have no ill intentions and did not intend to expose her, she subconsciously asked him with her mental power.

The silver flying insect vibrated its wings, transmitting the same sound as before into her ears.

“I can be considered Thor’s friend, or more accurately, half a friend. You don’t need to worry, to your family I am an ally, because Odin is my enemy.”

“I also want to find Thor, so I will help you.”

The other party's words were vague and mysterious. Under normal circumstances, Sif would not have believed them at all, but at this moment she had no choice.

Perhaps there was a peculiar persuasive power in the mysterious person's words, or perhaps it was for a more realistic reason: she simply had no choice.

So, after only a moment of contemplation, Sif's consciousness conveyed a thought: "...Okay."

……

Sindri's Cottage.

Li You, who was sitting upright on the bed, opened his eyes once again.

"Odin... is indeed preparing for war with all his might, not willing to let go of any resources."

This is only natural. The new God of War, Odin, only cares about himself. As long as he survives Ragnarok and can retrieve the mask, he is willing to give up anything.

Now it seems that he has completely given up on communicating with Li You's side and is preparing to take back what he needs on the battlefield.

"...However, while you're preparing for battle, I haven't been idle either."

Li You knew very well that the flow of time in Asgard was faster than in most other countries.

Muspelheim and Niflheim have the slowest flow of time among the nine kingdoms.

His arsenal, the Night Demon's Lair, was located in Niflheim.

Several months have passed, and the Night Demon army has now basically taken shape.

Li You got up and paced back and forth in the room, pondering his next move.

Odin intended to build the heart of Asgard into an impregnable war fortress around the Wall of Harinder.

The wall that Somur's son built for them became their greatest defense against Ragnarok.

But what Odin and the other Aesir gods didn't know was that Harinder's promise to help them build the city walls wasn't for the purpose of worshipping the gods.

Many years ago, Somur encountered Thor while searching for his son and died tragically under his hammer. Some years later, Halidor turned around and approached Odin, volunteering to build a wall for the Aesir.

Harindor concealed his identity and did not ask Odin for any reward. He simply made a bet with the Allfather: if he could complete the construction of the city wall within the stipulated time, Odin would allow him to meet Freya.

Odin at the time had no idea that Harinder could complete the task on time, so he agreed without a second thought and didn't even tell Freya.

Only after Harinder completed the construction of the city wall quickly and well did an exasperated Odin temporarily notify Freya to meet with Harinder.

Harindor did not do anything rude, but simply told Freya a secret—that he had deliberately left a loophole when building the city wall.

Halidor wanted only one thing: that when Ragnarok came, the hole he left in the seemingly impenetrable wall would become the nail that pierced Odin's heart.

At the time, Freya didn't actually have any conflict with Odin, so she was somewhat surprised, but she didn't tell Odin about it. Even after she was banished from Asgard by Odin, this secret remained buried in her heart, and she never mentioned it to anyone.

However, it is clear that now is the time to reveal this secret.

Just as Li You was thinking this, there was a knock on the door, and Freya greeted him: "Li You, did you want to see me?"

A smile appeared on Li You's face: "Yes, please come in."
