Chapter 1168: Feeling Unworthy

Lin Jinyan glanced at the side of the Queen and saw the unfamiliar Momo standing in the originally preferred position. She knew that the person was the one sent by Qin Zongliang. She then glanced at Xier who was standing a little further away, and withdrew her gaze without making a sound.

The Queen summoned the concubines today because the late Emperor's death would be held soon, and they wanted to discuss arrangements for going to the royal temple to pay tribute.

When Lin Jinyan and her sister arrived, the main business had already been discussed. After chatting for a while, everyone praised Ronghua Hall, and the Queen asked everyone to disperse, leaving Ming Fei and Lin Jinyan and her sister alone.

Lin Jinyan and the other concubine stood up to see the other concubines off. Before they sat down, the Queen, who wanted to repair the relationship between the Crown Prince and Chu Chengping, found an excuse to let Ming Fei take Lin Jinyan and the other concubines away without waiting for Ming Fei to speak.

Before leaving, the Queen lovingly instructed Lin Jinyan as if she were talking to her own junior: Come to the palace to visit her more often when you have nothing to do.

Ming Fei brought the two sisters back to her palace. The two sisters bowed politely and were slowly called by Ming Fei after a while.

Seeing that she was deliberately making things difficult for herself, Concubine Ming knew the general character of the two sisters, one of them was as still as a mountain and looked calm, while the other had a look of fear and lowered her eyes without saying a word.

After sitting down, Ming Fei chatted with the two of them and carefully observed their responses, which made her more certain that Lin Wanrong was truly timid and simple, and was not pretending to be weak and innocent. Although she still had a faint smile on her face, her eyes were much softer.

As for Lin Jinyan, after talking to her, Ming Fei felt that she was a wonderful person who lived in seclusion in the city. Not only was she easy to gain people's trust, but she also would not make people wary of her. If she did not know Lin Jinyan's thoughts, she would have been deceived.

As she was speaking, Concubine Ming mentioned Chu Chengping who was recuperating from illness, but was interrupted by Lin Wanrong before she could finish her words.

"Your Highness Prince Qi is ill? He even vomited blood? How is he now? Is he feeling better?"

Lin Wanrong asked in a hurry. Seeing that Ming Fei and Lin Jinyan were staring at her, she realized what was happening and her face turned red. She hurriedly stood up and apologized:
"I was in a hurry and offended Your Majesty..."

Seeing that Lin Wanrong's voice was getting smaller and smaller, Lin Jinyan stood up to help:

"Don't blame me, Your Majesty. My cousin is kind and cares about others, so I never told her about His Royal Highness the Prince of Qi. Your Majesty is kind and I and my sisters are just like at home. I was so anxious when I heard His Royal Highness vomiting blood."

Ming Fei's eyes flickered as she listened: these words not only reflected Lin Wanrong's sincerity towards her son, but also showed that Lin Wanrong was not a rash person, but she was not on guard just because of her:

"I heard from Ping'er that you have already rejected him, so why do you care about him so much?"

Lin Wanrong hesitated for a long time and looked at Lin Jinyan as if asking for help.

Lin Jinyan responded with a reassuring smile:

"Don't be afraid, sister. The Queen is very tolerant. Just tell me what you think."

Lin Wanrong: "Your Highness is of noble descent, and I, a humble subject... am of humble origin. It's not that I don't want to... but I feel I'm unworthy."

Seeing that she had finished speaking and Ming Fei had no intention of interrupting, Lin Wanrong spoke more and more fluently:
"Even though I am not worthy of you and I dare not marry you, I still hope that Your Highness is healthy and everything goes well. So I was shocked when I heard that Your Highness vomited blood. I wonder if Your Highness has recovered now?"

Seeing Lin Wanrong finish her words, her timid face and clear eyes were filled with worry. She looked at her eagerly, wanting a reassuring answer. Ming Fei couldn't help but soften her heart:

"Sit down and talk. Ping'er is fine now. Don't worry."

Lin Wanrong thanked Lin Jinyan and sat down. She asked silently with a worried look on her face. Only after Lin Jinyan nodded in confirmation did she breathe a sigh of relief. (End of this chapter)
