Chapter 62 Earl
Deep within a luxury mansion in the eastern part of Nanwei City.

A woman in her forties lay languidly on a bench, while two therapists gave her a facial and massages to her limbs.

The lady had her eyes closed, and her face was covered with a layer of skincare products, making it impossible to see her features.

……

A middle-aged man, dressed in a black suit and carrying a cane, walked into the hall.

As he approached the bench, the man knelt on one knee, kissed the woman's hand, then stood up and took a few steps back, reporting, "The young man seemed very restrained."

The woman did not open her eyes, but asked:
"Restraint? I doubt it. It's just that the old law enforcement officer behind him is stopping him."

"Then, how about we give it another jolt and repeat what we did before?" the middle-aged man asked.

“He’s a smart man, he just hasn’t realized it yet. If we provoke him further, it will only make him come to his senses faster. Someone as vengeful as him won’t give up easily.” The woman gently touched her forehead, brushed aside her hair, and moved with unparalleled elegance.

Her voice was a genuine husky voice, with a low-frequency quality that most women don't possess, coupled with her languid tone, making it incredibly magnetic.

"It's been many years since I've encountered such a vicious and clever little guy."

"You mean, try recruiting them?" the middle-aged man asked tentatively.

But the woman's meaning was not clear:
"Let's wait and see; this kind of person is hard to control."

"Actually, it's not that hard to control," the Chinese man commented casually.

"Are you talking about his family? Don't forget what the whole thing started in the first place." The woman waved her hand slowly in the air. "He can only consider what you're saying if he can do what we want cleanly and honestly. But I think by the time he realizes what's going on, things probably won't go as we wish."

“The situation is still under our control; he knows nothing about your existence,” the middle-aged man said confidently.

"Let him make a fuss for now. If he succeeds, that's his skill. If he fails, we'll throw all the blame on him and send his whole family to their deaths."

The woman slowly gave the instructions:
"The old man is probably arriving in Nanwei City soon. Remember, we should pretend we know nothing about those two brothers' mess. If anyone under you dares to say a word, deal with them immediately... I've worked so hard for the old man all these years. If I can't get a title in return, at least I should keep my share in my own hands, and no one can take it away from me."

"clear."

……

...

Nanwei City has two train stations.

The western station was mainly used for commercial transport, while the civilian railway station was located in the eastern town of Innsmouth, and the station was named Innsmouth Station.

Originally, this place was just a very small village. It was only after the railway station was built that the surrounding economy was gradually developed and it grew into a small town. Although there are not many local residents now, there are many hotels and shops. As the face of Nanwei City, all the buildings here continue the retro style, with stone carvings and intricate lines that can be seen everywhere.

Bathed in the crimson glow of the setting sun, almost every angle in the town of Innsmouth is as captivating as an oil painting.

However, Edward Sherman had no time to pay attention to the scenery in front of him.

After getting off the train, the butler who came to pick him up gave him a complete report on everything that had happened in the family over the past few days.

Edward was a man who had weathered many storms, but even so, after hearing what had happened, he felt dizzy and almost collapsed.

Edward knew perfectly well what kind of people his eldest son Dylan and eldest grandson Cillian were.

He knew about Dylan's homosexual tendencies, and he knew even more about Cillian's unruly nature.

None of this mattered to Edward. No matter how much his offspring caused trouble, it was only within the confines of Nanwei City. As long as it didn't affect his influence in the Upper House of the Royal City, they could do whatever they wanted.

In the royal city, Edward had seen people far more outrageous and perverse than his eldest son and grandson; compared to them, Dylan and Cillian's actions were nothing.

Edward did not fail to restrain his descendants.

He had indeed placed Cillian under house arrest a few months ago.

But it's too late to say anything now. Dylan was mistakenly killed by Cillian, who suffered a mental breakdown.

Old Edward never imagined that his long journey back would lead to such a situation.

……

“Sir, let’s go back to the manor first,” the elderly butler said, helping Edward up.

To welcome the Earl, they brought the only car in Sherman Estate, because Edward was too old to withstand the nearly one-hour journey by carriage.

Edward was already exhausted. It was a tragedy for a parent to outlive their child, let alone to have his son shot and killed by his grandson.

"Has everything been investigated and clarified?"

Edward's voice trembled slightly.

His main purpose for this trip was to amend the succession to the title, and he believed that his sons and daughters were absolutely aware of this matter.

With such a major incident occurring at this critical juncture, how could Edward, a cunning old fox, not guess the reason behind it?
"But there's not much to investigate."

Edward got into the car and let out a heavy sigh.

"Make an appointment with a lawyer for me tomorrow. I need to finalize the succession to the title tomorrow. Don't meet at the manor, meet at the Rose Restaurant."

He knew that the more turbulent the times, the more important it was to finalize the most crucial matters as soon as possible. This would be the final word, shattering the last glimmer of hope for those who were eager to make a move.

“You mean, with…” The butler, sitting in the passenger seat, turned to Edward and asked.

Edward said calmly:

"A will, in the form of a will."

"Ok sir."

The elderly butler nodded respectfully.

He then asked, "Should we inform the children?"

"No, I'll meet with them after the will is confirmed to be in effect."

Edward closed his eyes and leaned on his cane.

Countless eyes in the royal city were watching Edward's every move. His real enemies were the two academies, not Nanwei City. However, his own backyard was indeed on fire, and Edward had to quell the turmoil in his family as soon as possible. Before that, he had no time to consider family ties or other factors.

It's no longer just a matter of family reputation.

Edward had learned the gist of what had happened from the butler, and he was glad that his youngest son had kept the matter quiet.

Regardless of how much responsibility Harrison bears, at least he didn't make things worse.

At least those newspapers and media outlets did not publish the Sherman family scandal.

This alone further solidified Edward's belief in who the title should belong to.

"By the way, many of your old friends have sent invitations to meet you after hearing about your return," the butler said, bringing up another matter.

"No, not a single meeting." Edward refused those pointless meetings without hesitation.

"understood."
