Chapter 98 Curse
Many of the tables, chairs, and cabinets in the living room were overturned.

Milo saw that the four children were each tied to a corner of the living room.

Kai's hands and feet were bound together with hemp rope and tied behind his back to a pillar, while the other three boys, being smaller, were tied to the corners of a heavy table, which was also weighed down with heavy objects.

The four children were struggling as if they were going crazy.

They kept twisting their restrained limbs and even tried to bang their heads against the restraints behind them.

What was most chilling was that all of them had bloodshot whites showing in their eyes, bulging veins on their foreheads, and bloodless faces, as if they were possessed.

Even with rags stuffed in their mouths, they still managed to let out chilling roars from the depths of their throats.

……

Seeing this bizarre scene in the room, Milo froze, still holding his gun.

"This……"

He couldn't understand it at all.

Especially Kai, who was tied to the pillar, had completely lost the tranquility and cuteness she had during the day. Her thin body was twisting and turning incessantly, and she was raising her neck and roaring at Milo like a mad beast.

Her wrists, bound by rough hemp rope, were bleeding, but Kai seemed completely oblivious to the pain and continued to struggle.

……

"Put the gun down."

Rebecca was also in the room. She found some blankets and used them to cover the back of Kay's head to prevent her from constantly hitting the pillar behind her with the back of her head.

"So what exactly is this?" Milo was stunned for a long time.

It wasn't until Rebecca reminded him that he lowered the gun that had been pointing at Walker's forehead: "I thought..."

Walker, with a gun pointed at his head, didn't dare to breathe a word, remaining motionless like a statue until the gun was removed, at which point he finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"Phew... Never mind, it's alright. Many people think so too. I should thank you for not shooting as soon as you walked in."

Milo put away the revolver and rubbed his temples with both hands.

"No, I heard it outside..."

When he first heard those strange noises while standing outside the door, he had already imagined every horrific scene that might be happening inside. He had even planned to empty three magazines from Walker's limbs before finishing him off with a shot to the head.

But as it turned out, he was quick enough to react.

Or rather, thankfully his murderous intent wasn't that absolute.

Otherwise, the first bullet of his brand-new revolver would have hit an innocent person.

"It's nothing, it's just a misunderstanding." Although he said that, Walker still reached out and held onto the chair next to him.

His legs went weak with fear just now.

The way Milo burst through the door was clearly aimed at taking his life; for a moment, Walker had even resigned himself to his fate.

"So what exactly is this?" Milo looked at the four children who were tied up and still struggling and screaming.

"Let's talk about it in detail after this is over."

Walker glanced down at his watch.

"It's 10:25 now. In about five minutes, they will be back to normal. Let's keep an eye on the children and make sure they don't hurt themselves."

"It's already ten o'clock?" Milo was even more confused.

I left around 6 o'clock, how come it's already 10 o'clock when I came back after only going around in circles?
Four hours was enough time for him to jog all the way back to Galid city.

How could that be?
"You still have the nerve to ask? I was almost ready to go out and collect your corpse." Rebecca glared at Milo.

Milo slapped his forehead in exasperation.

He clearly only walked into the western part of the city, spoke a few words to a miner, and then returned the way he came. Although he got lost for a short while and was delayed by the old lady, it's absolutely impossible that he spent four hours like that.

"Never mind that for now."

Milo moved the door panel that he had kicked in two from the ground, then went straight to Kai and squatted down.

He looked at Kai, whose eyes had rolled back and who was going mad, with a complicated expression. He straightened the bedding on the pillar behind her and checked again to make sure that the ropes binding her hands and feet were not loose.

Meanwhile, Rebecca and Walker were responsible for keeping an eye on the other three boys.

No one spoke again; only the children's muffled growls and the dull thuds of impacts filled the living room. Those five minutes felt incredibly long.

Milo just stared at the frantic Kai struggling.

The expression on her face was ferocious and terrifying, as if some evil thing had replaced her soul.

Gradually, her voice grew weaker and weaker, and finally she slowly fell into a deep sleep.

The veins on Kai's face and body slowly subsided, her long, gray-white hair, soaked with sweat, fell across her face, and her expression gradually returned to normal, with only a hint of pain still lingering between her brows. The sweet and lovely girl we had met during the day had finally returned.

As she fell into a coma, her head drooped gently.

"You can untie them now and send them back to their beds in their rooms."

Walker glanced at the watch face again and said to Milo and Rebecca.

Milo quickly untied the rope binding Kai, wrapped her frail body in the bedding, and carried her to the bed in the room.

After Walker and Rebecca had settled the rest of the children, Walker went out and fetched a basin of clean water. He then began to carefully clean the lacerations on the poor children's hands and feet.

After wiping away the bloodstains, he took the water, which had turned red, outside, and returned with some medicine to apply to the children's wounds.

Walker's movements were very light and skillful throughout, as if he had done this countless times before.

After treating each child's wounds, he gently covered them with blankets.

The temperature in the town of Ikham was rather chilly at night. Milo had already experienced that cool feeling outside, but after doing all this, Walker's forehead was covered in sweat.

He looked at his four children sleeping soundly on the bed and let out a long sigh.

"Is it over?"

Milo asked Walker in a low voice.

Walker replied in a normal volume, "Yes, that's it. You don't need to speak softly. They're sound asleep and won't hear anything."

"Sorry, I almost blew you out of your hand, and your door too." Milo nodded and said to Walker sincerely.

“No, no, no, it was my fault for not making things clear beforehand.” Walker waved his hand and said with a wry smile, “I wasn’t sure what you were doing in Icom, so I didn’t tell you the truth.”

“So are they sick? Or…” Rebecca looked at the four children sleeping soundly on the bed.

She has been staying here ever since Milo left, because of what Milo said before he left.

After nightfall, Walker asked Rebecca several times if she wanted him to take her back to the hotel to rest, but Rebecca refused and stayed there instead.

It was almost ten o'clock when Walker had no choice but to honestly tell Rebecca the truth about the children's condition.

At first, Rebecca didn't believe it, but when she saw one of the boys start convulsing and frantically ramming into things in the room like Ye Er, she understood what Walker meant.

……

"This is the curse of Icam."

Walker leaned against the wall, wiping the sweat from his forehead with his sleeve, and said with a hint of helplessness:

“If I said this during the day, you might think I was talking nonsense, but now you should understand what I mean.”

“A curse?” Milo frowned.

He knew what Karl had seen before he died; the grotesque expressions of those children bore a striking resemblance to the pilgrims who had frantically chased Karl in the underground cave…

“I can only call it a curse, or you can call it a virus if you like. Anyway, that’s how it is. Every night around ten o’clock, they start to lose their minds. They run like madmen into the mountains, recognizing no one. Anyone who dares to stop them will be bitten.” Walker said slowly.
“I suspect that this is why they were abandoned in the town by their biological parents. I took them to a better hospital for check-ups, but they didn’t find anything. And to be honest, I’m not comfortable letting other hospitals or orphanages take care of these children. Once I know their true situation, it’s hard to let them go. They are all very well-behaved children. You should understand what I mean.”

"I understand." Milo nodded, then asked:
"Have they been like this since they were little?"

"Yes, that's what Grandma Freya said. The reason she entrusted the children to me is because Freya can't take care of them all by herself as they get older... Maybe when they get a few more years older, I probably won't be able to control them if they go crazy, hehehe..." Walker said with an awkward laugh.

"So what caused this?" Rebecca asked, puzzled. "Does nobody know?"

“Nobody knows.” Walker shook his head. “The natives of Icam who knew the reason have all left. If I had to say, Freya is probably the one who knows the most about the secret. She has been searching for clues in the past all these years in Icam, but I guess she hasn’t found anything. The history of those strange stories in the town of Icam is too long to be understood in just a few years.”

Milo remained silent for a long time before finally asking, "You just said that if these children aren't controlled properly, they might run into the wilderness when they go berserk?"

"Yes, Grandma Freya told me all of this. She said this had happened several times before, and thankfully she always managed to find the children. But now that they're older, if they really run away, even I might not be able to catch up. That's why I'm always very sensitive to time."

Walker shook his wristwatch.
