Chapter 1009 Charity
Autumn comes early to Beihe County. By the end of October, the mountain wind already carried a noticeable chill, blowing across the newly built Hope Primary School building and making the brand-new red flag flutter loudly.

Around noon, an SUV, two minivans, and a medium-sized truck drove into the school gate.

As if they had been notified in advance, the students lined up in neat rows on the playground.

Sun Yi got out of the car first, turned around and helped Liu Xiaoli down, followed closely by Liu Yifei.

To play the role of "teacher" well, she dressed up specially today. She wore a white knitted top, a brown corduroy long skirt, and canvas shoes, looking gentle and intellectual.

She wasn't wearing makeup, just a thin layer of sunscreen, and her hair was tied in a simple ponytail, which still gave her a lively look.

"Hello, Teacher Liu! Hello, Uncle Sun!"

The children already knew that Liu Yifei would be temporarily "guest-starring" as their teacher today, and they greeted her happily in unison as soon as she got out of the car.

Although their school uniforms weren't brand new, they were all washed very clean. Their little faces were a bit red from the mountain wind, but their eyes shone like stars.

Liu Yifei crouched down, her gaze level with the children in the first row, and smiled warmly. "Hello, children, I'm Sister Liu Yifei." She spoke softly, "Today I'll be your substitute teacher for a day. Is that alright?"

"Okay—" the children answered in a drawn-out voice, and a few of the bolder ones had already grinned, revealing gaps in their missing front teeth.

Sun Yi stood behind her, watching the scene before him, his heart softening. He recalled many years ago—actually only seven or eight years ago—when Miss Liu acted in "The Return of the Condor Heroes." Back then, she was also a cheerful young girl, with eyes that held the same clarity and innocence.

Time has changed a lot, but some things remain the same.

The principal was a middle-aged man in his fifties, surnamed Li. He had slightly dark skin and rough hands with thick calluses. He rubbed his hands together and smiled somewhat awkwardly: "Teacher Liu, Director Sun, I really didn't expect you to come in person. The children started preparing yesterday."

“Principal Li, there’s really no need for this,” Sun Yi shook his hand. “We’re not some big shots; we don’t need the children to act like this.”

"No, no, these are all things the children wanted to express themselves. They are very grateful to have such a new school."

“Principal Li, the children should be grateful to you and all the teachers. At most, we can only provide the children with some hardware facilities, but it is you who have always accompanied the children as they grow and taught them knowledge.”

Sun Yi's words made Principal Li feel very gratified, and some of the teachers behind him even had tears in their eyes.

Maintaining such a school is extremely difficult for them.

"By the way, Principal Li, we also brought some gifts and school supplies for the children today, as well as some things that the school can use. Let's arrange for someone to receive them together."

"Yes, yes, yes." Principal Li shook Sun Yi's hand again. "Thank you, thank you so much."

The donation ceremony was very simple. Sun Yi and Liu Yifei didn't intend to do anything fancy. They simply arranged for staff members and teachers from the school to hand over the gifts and supplies to the school.

There are two thousand books, two pianos, 100 computers, and a large amount of teaching materials.

The children's little hands trembled with joy as they received their new schoolbags and stationery.

"Thank you, Teacher Liu!" a little girl with pigtails suddenly said loudly, and then bowed deeply.

This was like flipping a switch; the other children also bowed, their voices rising and falling: "Thank you, Teacher Liu!" "Thank you, Uncle Sun!"

Liu Yifei pursed her lips, feeling a slight sting in her eyes. She turned her face away, quietly wiping her eyes, and when she turned back, her smile was bright.

"You're welcome. Studying hard is the best way to thank your sister."

"I know~"

After the handover ceremony, Liu Yifei returned to the classroom with the children, where she prepared to "teach" them.

The first lesson was music class, where the children sang songs. The songs weren't too difficult, just nursery rhymes like "Let Us Row Our Boats".

Sun Yi and Liu Xiaoli stood at the back door of the classroom and watched for a while.

It was her first time teaching, and she was clearly a bit flustered. Even though she had prepared beforehand and even planned out the end of the lesson, she still played two wrong notes on the piano.

Sun Yi chuckled inwardly. There was one thing he needed to confirm: the young girl really didn't have much talent for musical instruments, or rather, compared to her performances and singing, she was far inferior.

But for the sake of the children, she wasn't afraid of making a fool of herself.

As it turned out, the children didn't care. They sang along with Liu Yifei, and even though they sang off-key, their voices were full of sincerity.

Let us row our oars.

The song flew out of the classroom and drifted through the autumn campus.

At this moment, Principal Li walked over with a radiant face, rubbing his hands together, and said to Sun Yi and Liu Xiaoli, "Director Sun, Ms. Liu, how about I show you around the school again? Every penny of the money donated by our foundation is used wisely."

Sun Yi glanced at Liu's mother, intending to refuse. He had come today purely because the children wanted to meet the "kind person" who had given them their new school, not to check on the implementation of the foundation's donations.

That would seem too deliberate.

But seeing the expectant look in Principal Li's eyes, he immediately felt relieved, clearly recognizing the affirmation Principal Li had been hoping for.

"Alright, then I'll leave it to Principal Li."

Liu Xiaoli nodded in agreement.

The entire campus was renovated and rebuilt on the original site. The old buildings were transformed into a library and a gymnasium, and two new buildings were added: a dormitory building for teachers and students, and a main teaching building.

Principal Li led Sun Yi and the others on a tour of the playground. Although it wasn't large, the synthetic running track under their feet was brand new.

“Before, we didn’t have a playground at all. The students’ parents would help compact the land during their off-season from farming. When the wind blew, it was all dust and dirt, and when it rained, it was all mud. Now it’s much better. The ground has been hardened and there’s a plastic running track. The children have a place to play.”

Principal Li was full of gratitude.

"Principal, this is what we should do. Is there anything else the school needs? If so, please let me know and I will try to arrange it."

"No, no, this is already very good. We are very satisfied. Compared to before, it's like heaven and earth."

Sun Yi pursed his lips and remained silent.

This was actually the first time he had ever seen a rural school like this.

Whether in his past life or this one, he was a city kid, and even the worst school there was much better than this place.

I used to only see it on TV news and it didn't really affect me, but seeing it with my own eyes today has truly shocked me.

Perhaps this is the true meaning of charity.

As "public figures," they should really use their influence to give back to society more.

"Mom, let's set a fixed plan for our foundation from now on, donating a certain number of schools every year, starting with the most impoverished and remote areas."

Sun Yi suggested this to Liu Xiaoli.

“Yes, no problem. That’s what I was thinking too. Now that you and Sisi are able to do it, the foundation receives a large sum of money every year. I plan to start donating to build schools regularly from next year.”

Principal Li, along with Sun Yi and the others, then visited the library and gymnasium, both of which were bright and clean, with excellent overall construction. After walking around, they returned to the foot of the teaching building.

The sound of Liu Yifei leading the children in singing drifted out again, and Sun Yi couldn't help but slow down.

This kind of music, mixed with children's voices, is the most enchanting.

"Director Sun, Ms. Liu, let's go to the dormitory building again and take a look."

"Ok."
